Alright, I am getting tired of posting new Cowboys info in the 09 thread so here's to 2010. It's never too early to show your colors around here so I'll keep this updated throughout the offseason until the season gets closer and baseball fans become more interested.

The 'Boys have been quiet this offseason until landing Dez Bryant in the NFL Draft. 2nd rounder Sean Lee was a nice pickup and should be a good nickel backer, depending on his ability to stay healthy. There are a couple of needs that are still in question: Free Safety and Left Tackle.

I think Doug Free can step in and fill the void that was left when starting left tackle False Start Adams was cut. However, the team is currently in talks with the Rams to trade Barbie Carpenter for swing tackle Alex Barron, who can provide good depth on either side of the line.

At FS, I think Alan Ball will step in and fill the role nicely this year with Pat Watkins as a solid backup at the position.

Offensively, we are stacked with three good RB's, Austin, Witten, Bryant, and of course, Tony Romo. We have some nice depth at WR with Crayton, Ogletree, Hurd and Roy Williams. If teams want to play vanilla, we can run the ball down their throat. If teams want to bring the house, we spread you out four wide and light it up with our strong receiving corps. Sounds like a win-win to me!

On the defensive side of the ball, we haven't looked this good in a long time. With guys like Ware, Ratliff, Spencer, Newman, Jenkins, Brooking, James and newly drafted Sean Lee, I think we are going to be a nightmare for offenses all year long.

So, let's kickoff this thread for all things Dallas Cowboys in 2010 and 2011.

The 'Boys have a really good chance to become the first team to play at home in a Super Bowl!

Very Early NFC East Prediction:

1. Dallas Cowboys (11-5)
2. New York Giants (10-6)
3. Philadelphia Eagles (9-7)
4. Washington Redskins (9-7)

Yeah, I think that we will get the better end of this trade. It involves 2 1st round picks that haven't really done much. However, we could really use the depth at Tackle and Carpenter's replacement was drafted in Sean Lee. Barron has started several games at Tackle for the Rams.

Hopefully, this will get done by the weekend.

If we traded him for a bag of potato chips we would have gotten the better deal.

Thanks for starting the 2010 thread though. I just couldn't bring myself to do it but now ready to start talking a little football.

The latest on the trade of Bobby Carpenter....

    Barron welcomes trade to Cowboys

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on May 7, 2010 10:50 AM ET

We mentioned Thursday that Rams tackle Alex Barron has to sign his restricted free agent tender before any trade to the Cowboys for linebacker Bobby Carpenter is completed.

A few of you asked: What if Barron doesn't want to go and refuses to sign?

That won't be a problem. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Barron welcomes a change of scenery and is looking forward to joining a playoff-caliber team.

So the possible trade that PFT first reported on Thursday should happen. One sticking point in the meantime could be in Carpenter's contract. Carpenter is due a $1.9 million incentive in his current deal based on playing time.

It's believed Carpenter will start in St. Louis at weakside linebacker, making that incentive easy to achieve. The Rams could be trying to renegotiate his contract before finalizing the trade.

    Carpenter for Barron trade complete.

Hopefully, the Cowboys can turn this guy into a success much like they did with Leonard Davis.

Regarding our rb rotation, I don't care who 'starts'. I think this debate about the starter is just a media thing and gives them something to talk about. It is nice to have 3 backs that could be starters on most teams in the nfl.

I guess Barber has been looking healthy and hopefully he returns to his old self this season.

This rotation will be awesome this year. I have a feeling that this could be the last year to keep all three of them if Choice improves his game even more.
  • cowboypjfancowboypjfan Posts: 2,453
I think Jerry Jones would be foolish not to pick up OJ Atogwe. I think Atogwe would complete a defense that is already dominant and fill a hole at safety.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo off to an impressive start: 'Better than last year'

By DAVID MOORE and TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News

SAN ANTONIO – Tony Romo has consistently been on target in this camp, so much so that it's easy to take for granted.

    Almost

"He's had a fabulous camp so far," quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said. "He plays practice as real as anybody I've ever been around. He treats it like a game. When our guys are rushing him, he has a complete understanding of where he wants to go with the ball. If he has to move to get rid of the ball, he knows where to get it out.

"If everything is clean, he is throwing the ball as accurate as I've seen. Better than last year."

Ball security was an emphasis for Romo in last year's camp. This camp, the staff wants the quarterback to work on his throws to the receiver's back shoulder when the defense is high and takes the throw over the top away.

"He's done that extremely well," Wilson said.

And what about protecting the ball?

"It's natural for him now," Wilson said. "He's got two hands on the ball at all times.

"He's asserting his personality onto the offense as well. In the meetings and on the practice field, it comes in how he approaches things every day."

Fellow Cowboys fan checking in here.......

    - Happy to see Carpenter and Flozell gone (false start adams  )
    - The Romo to Bryant connection is going to be sick. Im just hoping that Austin can keep his magic alive, and that Roy Williams starts playing to his ability.....
    - Need to cutback on dumb penalties......killed us last year......

Dez Bryant to miss six weeks due to high ankle sprain. That takes him out of all pre-season and possibly the first game. FML.

Yeah, sorry, but the Eagles lost the high road once they signed Vick. Their silly Cowboys criminal jokes are just that at this point - silly. Every team in the league has their fair share.

The Cowboys have the toughest schedule I have seen in . . . maybe ever. Going to be brutal. Going to have to start strong against the Skins, Bears, Texans, Titans and Vikings (hopefully without Favre). The Jaguars and Lions are the only other mediocre to bad teams on the list. December has the potential to be ugly.

I call 11-5 and win the division. The offense is instantly improved with Bryant. I think the only real question mark is Doug Free and if he can take over for Flozell Adams. I was as tired of Adams as everyone else, but you forget how much he could dominate when he was on his game.

On the defense, everyone is back except Ken Hamlin and that shouldn't be a big deal. A little worried about Marcus Spears' knee injury and hope that doesn't linger. Otherwise they have done a good job keeping everyone together.

Once again, kicking is going to be the biggest issue. Can we trust David Buehler to make the big field goal with the game on the line?

I think the Eagles have a big unknown with Kolb. I don't know what their injury situation is like. The Giants lost some more players and Washington is Washington.

Don't be. Jason Hatcher was going to take Spears' job soon anyway. He and Bowen will benefit from this and become better players for us.

Also, I read somewhere that we have one of the strongest lineups in the league. The only injury that would be hard to overcome for us is Romo. Other than that, We are set up for a nice run this year.

    Go Cowboys!!

First of all...that schedule isn't that tough. washington twice, chicago, houston, tennessee, jacksonville, detroit, and arizona. that's 8 wins right there.

dallas is winning 11 games in their sleep this year.

as for the eagles fan nonsense. well, we have to talk shit. it's in our blood. as an eagles fan, I know the 2010 version is gonna be lucky to win 9 games. but we still have to poke the cowboy and giant fans. We aren't going away...reid has the eagles primed and ready to make another SB run. It won't be this year, but dont sleep on the birds. they could steal a playoff spot and make noise in the NFC.

the big man has made a seamless transition, not only with the QB, but the entire team. there is no rebuilding period

@ The Fixer - glad football season is here again because these Eagles and Cowboys threads can get rowdy. Its all good so trash away! We are all used to it after doing this for like 5 years.

Personally I think Reid makes a better GM than an in-game coach. I swear I read Eagles fans complaining that clock management or run-pass distribution cost them a game or two every year. He made the right decision to move on from McNabb. Maybe should have done it sooner.

And I wouldn't count both Washington games as wins. Something stupid always happens when the Cowboys and Redskins play. Rarely does the better team sweep.

I'm on the record as saying that mcnabb was the problem. lesser talented QBs (garcia, feeley, kolb) have proven that they can run a 2:00 offense in reid's system.

mcnabb was a great player, but he wasn't an ideal fit in reid's system. kolb isn't a physically gifted as mcnabb, but he is a better suited QB for the eagles offense.

I know about the skins-cowboys rivalry...but I think the skins are a 6 win team this year.

the cowboys are loaded...I'm just excited to see when dez bryant goes all TO and ruins this team
