    unless you win

based on that alone i shouldn't be bitching about 10C dues
they were great to deal with when it came to the contest and i have a beautiful guitar hanging on my wall thanks to it

this is just a separate poor business move that i think needs to be questioned

Ok, for those not understanding why people are upset let's take a look - This is also directed at people who say the 10C does so much for us.

    Digital Membership - $20.00

Full Website Access - We have to pay to post on the band's official forums. Doesn't seem like 10C is really giving us so much here.

PJ Radio Access (Streaming only) - Ok, this costs them and not sure if "rob" is a 10C employee or not, but they may need more income for his salary

Holiday Single MP3 - Available for free every year at a number of PJ fan sites and youtube. Without a physical copy, this is what any non member can already get for free.

Deep Magazine PDF - Magazines only come once a year and rarely have relevant info. PDF files will also be available for free for any non member that wants it - so again nothing really special.

Members-only Contest Eligibility - Eh, nothing really exciting here.

Members-only Merch Discount Events - Again, nothing exciting to me, discounts on the merch that's already available. Its also not really a discount if we have to pay to be able to take a discount.

Access to Members-only Merch - Usually limited to posters. The shipping costs on all items in the goods are also a rip off, and many times we can't combine products and end up having to pay extra shipping.

Access to Fan Club only Ticket pre-sales - This is the only real benefit, IMO - and it is a very good one. If you have a good 10C number, than the 20 dollars is more than worth it for this alone. My number isn't very good and even I've been very very very happy with the tickets I have been distributed. However, as the band doesn't tour frequently or in many places anymore, fans in certain regions of the USA and world would be paying $20 for what exactly? I'm fortunate in that I can and will travel to see the band so paying $20 or $40 for my fan club number and a few other goodies is worth it to me, but not everyone can travel.

I have some hardcore Pearl Jam friends in Texas who can't travel to see the band - so if they want to continue paying $20 dollars, and the band continues to skip us, they are literally getting nothing for their money.

All good points but just a further point about your comments re: the holiday single. People from outside the fan club downloading it for free are stealing and the person/s from within this club who are putting it out there are also breaking copyright laws. This is meant as a gift to fan club members only, its one of the reasons its not for resale. Letting us download the single is still them giving us a gift.
i always thought they didnt care about this and considered it like a bootleg? plus, lets face it, many of these arent about quality, hehe. more like a goofy thank you for christmas.

Been a constent member since 1996, and I completely understand the increase. Look forward tp my shirt and bootleg! It will also hold 10C account to being a little more timely with the holiday single, etc. 10C do a great job! Check out other fanclubs around... Metallica is $60, for example. Like it or lump it.

really no need to continue on with this thread ..... people that are upset will not be convinced otherwise and continue to tell us why they are displeased, people that are pleasantly upbeat about the new system will also continue to post how pleased they are with it and why, so really we're getting nowhere in this thread.......it's just creating hard feelings and generating hostility; really when all is said and done it's just a fan club! There's a lot of people on this board dealing with a lot larger issues in life (serious illness, financial, marital, and all life's other hardships).

For the benefit of all we should move on.

to each their own; the way life should be, do what you wish with your fan club status and a BIG happy new year to all!

I love this band and I will renew with a smile for $40. I don't understand those saying they cant afford 10 cents a day or will not renew because they are not getting enough for the extra money. I shut off my cable and Internet at home to save money for the chance to see the band this year. I could not imagine life without Pearl Jam and I will continue to enjoy everything they have to offer.
    this post makes me sad
i can honestly say that cable and facebook/porn bring me more enjoyment than the 10C ever could

speaking of which... "full access to the website" could be made a little more enticing

I am all for people sharing their opinions respectfully but the people saying "it's just $20 and pennies a day!" make me sick. You are so pretentious. It's not about the dollar amount, it's the principal. They have jacked the price up to twice what it was. Now you are paying $20 extra for a a "free" tshirt that costs a few bucks to manufacture and a bootleg download that costs them nothing to provide you. The digital membership has transitioned into nothing but a $20 service/connivence charge to buy tickets and exclusive merchandise that isn't even discounted. You are crazy if you don't think it is nothing more than a service charge for buying tickets and we are FORCED to be a member if we want a shot at any decent seats. I know they play it off as doing us a favor providing tickets but they are charging for the privilege of buying tickets, just like Ticketmaster does. On top of that, a $3 Ten Club ticket processing fee was added last year to "cover credit card costs". Our $20 a year couldn't cover those?

Can I afford an extra $20? Yeah I can. Does $20 mean a lot more to me and everyone here than the band? Absolutely. This is all about greed, not inflation as some are claiming. What can the overhead of a fan club possibly be? It's a warehouse with merchandise and occasional ticket sales. They don't manufacture anything. They take orders for what, less that 75 items on their website?? and they ship them out. They don't even ship the bootlegs.

Great points. I have a "relatively" low number, but over the past 5 years (since they quit doing real tours i.e. 2003=70+ shows), I have only gotten to see them once. This year... I hope I'll get to, but probably won't fit in with life this year. They stopped playing my state in 2000. If they keep doing east coast/west coast only US tours, but going to Europe every other year, etc... well I wanna keep my number active, but it's basically like paying $100 extra for my one show in 5 years to get tickets. (well that was 5 x $20, ha ha)

Personally, I think one of the shittiest things about this deal is that EVERYONE should get the next single on vinyl, PERIOD. The singles are always "late" by a month, 2, 6, whatever... The last single we got was supposed to be the 2009 single, we got it in 2010. 2010's single, which we should be getting soon, should fall under our 2010 "membership benefits," thus everyone should get the vinyl copy. I hope they are honest about that fact and send the 45 to all members who were current through 12/31/10. Then the NEXT single next year should be the MP3 option for the Digitalers.

Not to mention, I'm pretty sure they still owe everyone one more copy of Deep in 2010...

My last bitching point will be that most of the other times in the past, when membership dues increased, they increased in $5 increments, not double the price. It went from $5 to 10, $10 to $15, and $15 to 20. I was expecting it would go up pretty soon, but from $20 to $25. Doubling the price is just a cheese move.

I hope the t-shirt is the greatest fucking shirt design of the last 10 years!!!:lol:

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but there should be a 3rd option:

    Tier 3 Membership $5 US/INTERNATIONAL
    - Fan Club only Ticket pre-sales

    That is all.

i'd also be a lot happier if they would respond to my question regarding why these prices for the new membership were put in place on december 31st when the e-mail specifically says january 1st. textbook case of a business blatantly lying to its clients...

What are you talking about? They didn't put them in place on December 31, they just disabled the renewal function. If people had seen the announcement and renewed en masse with the old system well into the future, it would have created a major problem since that option technically no longer exists. They have this issue to sort out with folks who have already done so and it would have been exponentially worse if they had left the renewal feature up.

The Ten Club didn't lie to anyone. Again, the mountain of bizarre accusations and insults being lobbed at the band, et al. just because the cost of joining their fan club went up is really depressing.

For many people, the only time they spend $20 in a year is on the PJ fan club!

I believe this statistic to be utter nonsense.

I have to renew my membership at the end of Jan.
I'm not too excited about any of this crap.

I don't remember the last time I got any benefit out of being a 10c member...other than the occasional Deep magazine.

This is definitely quite lame IMO.

it's more of a statement then a statistic, 4 out of 5 people would have known that.

i think we can all agree that the band and 10C are 2 very different entities at this point... thats probably the biggest pitfall of the whole thing

listening to Ramblings I from '91 really makes you see just how far this club has come (maybe not the best example but it just came up on my shuffle)... naturally it was bound to happen and i don't fault the band for it... but things sure feel a lot less personal at this point

I think you're right on about the separation, but what are you gonna do? It's always more personal early on. If people want that, find a band that you like who's playing 200 person rooms; good chance they'll grab a beer with you after the show. It's impossible for a band of Pearl Jam's popularity to make things super personal just based on the sheer volume of fans who want a piece of them. (And having some who go to extreme lengths to do so certainly doesn't help with that.)
