Come on Kat, you have to agree that was a funny post.

I hate to see people whining about these great things that PJ and their peeps are doing for us fans. It's almost like waking up Christmas morning, having a pile of gifts under the tree, and then complaining about what you got. Just accept these gifts, and trust that PJ and their crew are making this world a better place with some of the money they have left over as profit.
HAPPY 20TH!!! I'VE BEEN RIDING THE WAVE THE WHOLE TIME!! all I want to say is, thanks
A 100% increase to get Deep and a single is a gift in your mind?? I don't know where you come from but where I do, a gift is something given free of charge. And it's generally given on time unlike most of the stuff here.
Kat, do you think that instead of chastising/threatening time outs like we are children, your company could acknowledge not only the unhappy fans but the fact that your president called some of his customers assholes? That to me is more important than people calling each other names and if you didn't notice, people are calling each other these names as a direct result of changes your business decided to make. The pissing matches almost always happen as a result of no communication from your camp.

The comments from hopethatuchoke that you quoted posed some insight questions, yet the answer was deflected.
Simple open dialog would clear up many problems among fans, club members and those who are running the show.
Communication...it's a good thing.

Kat,
why is it you keep talking about forum users posting in improper ways (which is not acceptable, you are absolutely right), but don't mention the statement of the Tenclub president, who insults fans by calling them assholes?
Two people mentioned this incident in the last posts here, but this seems not to be a problem.
Doesn't respect and respectful behaviour work both ways?

You realize you could deflate a lot of this by addressing the problems rather than a case-by-case basis.
Just saying.

Come on guys, I understand where you are coming from but Kat moderates the boards to the boards standards. She doesn't moderate Tim. There is no way she could have a comment on that matter. Only Tim can.

Didn't Kat reprimand Tim before when he made those types of comments on the board? I think that shows she will do her job, when it is her job to do.
I hope she is being a bit lenient lately though because the 10C certainly added to the hysteria through lack of communication.

I absolutely understand Kat is in a bad position here.
But when talking about rude comments and insults against others, the insults from 10-C president have to be mentioned.
I like the idea of a common level of decency for everybody.
For Everybody!
When Kat, not speaking for herself but speaking as a representative for the organisation (10-C), demands a basic level of friendlyness and respect, we can and must demand the same from the organisation itself I think.
And since Kat is present in this thread, we can only adress this to her at the moment.

Agreed. But I would bet you if Tim came here and posted his angry remarks, Kat would then reprimand him just as she does the others.

If my constructive criticism and suggestions are considered trolling, so be it. I guess I need to accept that this is the way things are around here and acknowledgement is either forbidden by your superiors or the you are too busy to communicate with us.
If you or someone at the 10 Club acknowledged/addressed the very issues that I and many others have complaining about, there would be NO fighting, rude comments, or negativity. This doesn't happen on other websites, at least that I know of. There are great people here but something about the way you guys handle things brings out the worst in us. This thread is a perfect example. I apologize if this is all stuff that you personally aren't allowed to talk about but someone that can really should. Particularly the asshole comment.
I'm not looking to get banned so I will shut up now. I really look forward to what is in store for this year.

Did you hear what Tim said firsthand? I did and I think he was on point. No apology needed from him. He was not being rude. He was calm and was making mention about things and behaver he has witnessed on this board, by assholes.
You see, the Ten Club sells a very unique product that is only sold by them, Pearl Jam fan club memberships. It is not like he is the local manger of your Walmart - a place that sells 1000's of different items that can be bought in numerous places from numerous companies. Tim has the luxury of being able to call it as he sees it. No one here can hold the threat over him that they will go somewhere else for their Pearl Jam fan club membership. People are here for Pearl Jam plain and simple. Take it or leave it.
And again, what he said was very refreshing, if i may say so myself.
...

So Tim can misuse his power because he is in this position?
And you are even OK with this?
As Kat said before, it is not OK to insult others. You really think it is OK for the president of this Club, only because he is the president and has the power?
You can't be serious?
And 'take it or leave it' is the best approach for a good and open discussion, and for improvement, right?!
I won't take it, and I surely won't leave it.
I, like many others here, have my own thoughts that don't necessarily go along with everything 10-C does.
Intollerance won't shut us up, I promise!

Kinda like Ticketmaster and selling tickets to shows at certain venues...just take it or leave it right?
I'm sorry, but your argument is ridiculous. He certainly has the luxury...and he certainly should have the composure to not use it in that manner.
Are there some assholes here...certainly. Everyone knows it, Tim didn't have to say it. He certainly has more responsibility to act in an appropriate manner than some random fan on the internet.
So I am trying to catch up on what's going on here...is this true???? Tim called pearl jam fans assholes? All of them? I understand everyones angst about the price hike. Times are tough..not just for the rich...and I would say even more so for the poor. I talked through the changes in membership costs and realized I'd probably be spending that extra $20.00 on pearl jam anyway....so why not...It stings a little to think someone who runs a club that I am apart of would call me an asshole although as of late I haven't done anything to deserve it...I do often though mind you.
We have to understand their/his position and how difficult it is to listen to so many people complain when change is happening. Some don't like change...some cling to the past...we can hang on for a while but it will fall away eventually. On the same note 10 Club must try and appreciate our stand point. Some in this club are quite wealthy. Some... maybe the majority...are middle to lower middle class....For those this will be tougher to swallow. These people will feel as though they are paying the same amount of money for less and this will hurt.
Everyone needs to try to look around and appreciate everyones perspective even if we don't agree. And if Tim did call us all assholes...I am sure he had a good reason...right? We all get heated and say and do things we don't mean right? I do often...
anyway I am sure no one will read this so I suppose I wrote it to make myself feel better...

I listened to the show at the time, and I had absolutely zero problem with how he said things, he may have used the word 'asshole' but he was having a little swipe at people that use the forum that are forever 'caustic' and offensive, and he was sending them up a bit. I really didn't think it was offensive, and not half as offensive as some of the insults that I have read directed at him personally over the past year or so.
The only real question I have remaining relates to the people who really really feel that the Ten Club is offering them an outrageously poor service, and see themselves as 'shareholders' or something, or at least extremely dissatisfied customers.... what I find strange is that if I was this pissed off with a business and the way it treated me then first off I would stop giving them my fucking money and withdraw my custom. I'm not sure I would regularly come on to a forum and try and persuade all the generally satisfied customers that the manager of the business was worthless or useless.
I'm a satisfied Ten Club customer, I will happily keep giving them my money. If you're not..... don't.

This is absolutely right.
We can and should have our own (different) opinion here, but we should not condemn people because they don't agree with us.
I couldn't disagree more here.
If he had reasons for this or not. This is unacceptable behaviour.
Ha was talking as president of 10-C, not as a private person.
I surely talked a lot of shit in my lifetime too, but if I would call a client / a customer an asshole while I am at work (not as a private person, but as an employee), I would have to face heavy consequences.

No you for one SRW didn't sound too dissatisfied.
William Wallace, if I were this upset about a business I would withdraw my custom. How can you live with yourself and keep paying them? I hate nestle, so I don't buy their products.
I really don't think it was that offensive what was said anyway - as a paying customer it caused me no problems at all - Tim seems to me a decent bloke doing a pretty decent job who is fed up to the back teeth of the way some people use this forum so negatvely. He has a point.
I think the majorly dissatisfied customers should put their money where their mouth is, cancel their custom, and let the people satisfied with the Ten Club get back to doing what they like best - discussing Pearl Jam

Other companies make the same sort of stuff that Nestle does, no?
Any other companies offering up a chance for priority Pearl Jam tickets? Don't think so. This is why some people get stuck even though they are upset.
Plus I think there are a lot of separate issues being lumped together...10C communication, $ increase, Tim's comment. I'm fine with the new membership levels and think the 10C was trying to do a good thing by keeping a $20 level...and as they say, no good deed goes unpunished.

I agree with Tim whole heartedly. There are assholes on this board. People talk alot of shit too when they can hide themselves under a certain name handle. If your handle was your first and last name I guarantee you people wouldn't talk as much shit as they do.

Thanks for your kind advice.
But if you would read open minded, you would have seen that I mentioned I like lot of things about the Tenclub.
I just think the new membership system is based on a good idea, but done in a bad way.
And since this thread is about the new system, it is obvious you'll find more critical remarks than positiv ones.
So your solution is 'sut up when you disagree'?
I think it was offensive.
If a representative of an organisation calls members 'assholes', it is a problem.
When you guys who are excusing this would hear this anywhere else but in the Pearl Jam world, you wouldn't be OK with it either.
And to be honest, I didn't read any insults from tenclubbers directed to the 10-C workers here at all.
If someone did this, it would also be unacceptable.
So discussing is only for the fans satisfied with the tenclub?
This will be a controversial discussion...
A discussion forum lives from different opinion.
As long as everyone minds the rules, what problem is there?
Take me as an example:
I loved Backspacer. I was more than happy to hear about this years plans. But I was disappointed about the new membership system.
If you look in the backspacer thread, you'll find positive input.
If you look at '20 years PJ', you'll find positive input.
If you look in this thread, you'll find negative input.
So who are you guys judging fans who disagree in some points?

WW - if what we were focusing on here was simply the latest membership increase then fine, there's nothing wrong with providing feedback about the price rise. But actually, the context in which this discussion has arisen, and Tim's frustrated comments come against a backdrop of constant criticism of the Ten Club by some extremely dissatisfied customers over a long period of time. I am not saying people shouldn't have specific comments and feedback about a pretty substantial membership rise; but what I am saying is that if I had a long term sense of grievance and dissatisfaction with the way a business was being conducted then I would do the honest thing and stop paying them my money, and I do do this for businesses I disagree with. In relation to Tim's latest comments, I am an equally paying customer and don't think Tim owes me an apology, or should do anything at all. I feel though that if people really are as offended as some say they are then they should take some action and withdraw their business.

Didn't Kat reprimand Tim before when he made those types of comments on the board? I think that shows she will do her job, when it is her job to do.
I hope she is being a bit lenient lately though because the 10C certainly added to the hysteria through lack of communication.
If you're not..... don't.

We can and should have our own (different) opinion here, but we should not condemn people because they don't agree with us.
I couldn't disagree more here.
If he had reasons for this or not. This is unacceptable behaviour.
Ha was talking as president of 10-C, not as a private person.
I surely talked a lot of shit in my lifetime too, but if I would call a client / a customer an asshole while I am at work (not as a private person, but as an employee), I would have to face heavy consequences.
it's other things that are lacking
I am trying to make light in the dark

Just get the tickets elsewhere. That's what I would do if I had a major grievance against the Ten Club. They're not the water board.

How credible can an opinion be when the person is making assumptions without knowing any facts?
