I think when you can play a 35 song 4 hour set at Bonaroo and be nominated for a grammy for best alternative album you are pretty big time. Their last album was ranked as high as #9 on the Billboard top 200. Is that enough to be a big time rock band?
Rolling Stone ranked Evil Urges as the #4 album of 2008 and Spin ranked it 16th best album of 2008.
And how exactly did Kings of Leon sell out exactly? Were they in some sort of punk cult like Green Day. hahahahaha
I have no problems with KoL or their later albums in general. I'll be the first to suck Calebs dick. But Pearl Jam did not make them big, as you suggest.

What Pearl Jam has given me is priceless. I gladly pay $40 to be a member of their club. And yes, if you don't like it, then don't pay it. Stop acting like you have some sort of entitlement. If all the whiners leave the fan club, the true hard core fans like myself will be left and we will not have a problem getting tickets to the shows we want to see (thru the fan club) The Band has spoiled me as far as I am concerned. There aren't many bands out there who are together for TWENTY YEARS and still making great music, still love each other (I think??!!), and have toured A LOT.
Like someone else pointed out here, look at how much you pay going out partying a night or going to the movies or on gasoline for God's sake... Pearl Jam is worth so much more... Priceless in fact.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but are you stating that you're a bigger fan of a band because you're willing to pay more money than somebody else to join a Fan Club?
By that I'm referring to your remarks about being "hardcore".
Before you go and make comments such as yours, maybe you should take a few things into consideration:
a) Not everybody can be in a financial position to justify a 100% price hike to gain the same benefits as before.
b) Not everybody can justify paying a 100% price hike just so they can receive a shirt they don't need, and/or a bootleg they don't want.
I'm in category b. As I stated before, I'm more than willing to pay $5-$10 more for the exact same benefits as I was receiving before (physical copies of both Deep and the Xmas Single), because inflation is the way of the world. It's something as consumers (and yes, that's all we are) that we have to accept, but to pay double the price for something we don't need or want is a bit unwarranted in my opinion.
I'm confused about something can someone clear this up?
I e-mailed this to 10club:
I renewed my membership for 2011 shortly before the announcement was made. So, my membership benefits for this year of 2011 will be the same as all years past...I will still receive the hard copy of Deep and the actual vinyl single. However, I will not receive the t-shirt and the bootleg download. But, if I pay the difference of $20, then I will receive the shirt and download. So, besides no shirt and no download, there is no difference.
Then, in another year when it comes time to renew again, I choose whether to go Analog or Digital with the benefits that have been explained on the website. Is this all correct? Thanks.
They replied:
Sorry for the confusion. For all memberships that span 2011-2012 there are two levels, Analog and Digital. There is not a third level option. We anticipated hearing from a small number of members who have renewed early but now want to upgrade in order to get the 2011 single and deep in addition to the shirt and download. But no worries, it’s a simple fix.
To get you sorted out for an Analog membership just reply to this email with your Visa/Mastercard number, expiration date, and 3 digit security code. The $20 difference will be charged to your card. Please be sure to also include your shirt size. (chose from Men S-XXXL or Woman S-XXL)
I still don't get it. Do I get the Deep and single?

As I understand it, yes you will
Seems like that email from Ten Club is just a stock standard reply
Are you sure, because it sounds to me that I have to pay $20 to upgrade to Analog in order to get Deep, the single, the shirt and the bootleg. If I don't, I will not receive any of them. This is upsetting because I renewed my membership before the announcement and they should honor that. I have no interest in the shirt or the bootleg. All I want is the Deep mag and the single that I paid for with my $20.

Yep, I am in the same position, paid up to December 2011 and they told me I get the single and deep as normal.
So as I understand when I renew in December if I choose analog I get the t-shirt and download. So I think paying the difference for the upgrade to analog is only for people who have already paid for 2012 and beyond.

i'm in the same boat as you, i'm actually renewed until 2013 and i did it right before the holidays. i posed the question about getting the vinyl + hard copy of deep and their reply was similar to yours.

i have to say i'm unsatisfied with this answer. its rather shady. they were asked specifically about honoring the "old contract" yet failed to address it. instead, they say its a simple fix and requests your CC info via email for an upgrade? is it definite that those who renewed prior to the change are "grandfathered" into the old terms of the membership contract?

I agree, you paid for it, they should honor your contract. Why don’t you get your membership confirmation email where it lists everything you membership entitles you to and the expiry date and send it back to them?
On a side note I am very happy to see we get to chose our t-shirt size and they even have ladies
The initial problem I had with the announcement was the fact that Ten Club announced it during the New Year's holiday. They fully knew that there would be questions being asked of them, but because of their timing, there was nobody around to answer them. I thought that was a very gutless move.
It was almost as though they left a flaming bag of dog shit on every one of our doorsteps, rang the doorbell, then ran away. When we stamped out the flames and realised what was on our shoes, we looked around and realised that there was nobody there.
The current problem I have with this two tier membership is the fact that to keep the exact same benefits I currently have, I have to pay double the price I was paying previously. I DON'T want another PJ shirt, and I DON'T want a 'free' bootleg. On the other hand I DO want a physical copy of Deep, and I DO want a physical copy of the 'Xmas' Single.
If they announced a $5 increase on memberships then I would've said "fair enough". Inflation is something we have to live with, and I think it's something every single one of us accepts, but an increase of 100%??
I'm loving the dog shit trick comparative analogy Rowdy! This is some of your finest work to date... My shout on 10th March mate!! hahaha
If all the whiners leave the fan club, the true hard core fans like myself will be left
Oh piss off, I don't need to prove myself as a fan of anything. Having some kind of hardcore status isn't going to make me a better, more successful person or make my dick any bigger, so who gives a shit? I'm 30 years old and derive no pleasure from the fact of being a huge fan of something. And I sure as shit don't need to pay money for things I don't need to prove I enjoy something to anyone.

After getting the email about memberships I've come to one conclusion.
1996 Eddie would hate 2011 Eddie
I don't often do this... but seriously?
Yes, seriously. Now, I don't care that they want to make a buck, doesn't bother me. Heck, I don't even care that The Situation made $6 million in 2010. To each their own when it comes to making money. The point is that this band has done a lot in the last 5 years that went against many of the things they were for during most of their careers.
So the play stands as called, 1996 Eddie would hate 2011 Eddie.

You are a hardcore fan because you are willing to pay whatever they ask you to?
Sick and sad ideas of what makes you a hardcore fan.
By the way, what Pearl Jam has given me is priceless too. And I will be thankful forever for that.
But that doesn't restrain me from using my head and make up my own mind.
okay just have to say
that being a member of 10c / not being a member of 10 c
doesn't make you a true hardcore/not true hardcore fan
just because you can afford to pay for this membership doesn't give you superiority over the thousands of other pj fans who aren't in 10c.
the music, and how much it means to you = how much of a fan you are
and who are we to judge if other people are "true hardcore" fans?
i've seen this kind of treatment and attitude towards other fans of other bands, and i really really don't like it
sorry, just had to get that out there
rant over, didn't want to offend. just voice my opinion

Hi Kat.
Let me just ask you one question:
If the president of Tenclub calls members of the Club assholes in public, what message does this send out?
And why is there no official word about this?
I don't want to justify rude behavior here on the board, and telling someone to Eff themself or Piss off really is rude and unacceptable.
But if the president of the Tenclub is rude and abuses fans of the band by calling tenclub members a..holes, this is even a higher level.
Because of the current membership changes, there are things to discuss, and maybe there are even things that still could be improved by 10-C.
Sometimes it just seems that 10-C and 10-C officials can't deal with criticism and different opinion. Which is even more sad since we all love that band for their music, but also for them fighting for free sreech and for encourage us to have our own opinion.
I hate to see people whining about these great things that PJ and their peeps are doing for us fans. It's almost like waking up Christmas morning, having a pile of gifts under the tree, and then complaining about what you got. Just accept these gifts, and trust that PJ and their crew are making this world a better place with some of the money they have left over as profit.

saying your "hardcore" fan just makes you elitist in my eyes, just saying. we're all fans and some fans will bitch bout a product that they are a paying customer of. don't like what the bitchers have to say then don't fucking read it. i will continue to speak my mind and if anyone on here doesn't like it, then you can seriously go fuck yourself.
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
Yep, I am in the same position, paid up to December 2011 and they told me I get the single and deep as normal.
So as I understand when I renew in December if I choose analog I get the t-shirt and download. So I think paying the difference for the upgrade to analog is only for people who have already paid for 2012 and beyond.
i'm in the same boat as you, i'm actually renewed until 2013 and i did it right before the holidays. i posed the question about getting the vinyl + hard copy of deep and their reply was similar to yours.
"Thanks for being on top of your renewal, although we do see the problem
here. We anticipated hearing from a small number of members who have
renewed early but now want to upgrade. No worries, it¹s a simple fix.
To get you sorted out for an Analog membership just reply to this email with
your Visa/Mastercard number, expiration date, and 3 digit security code. The
$20 difference will be charged to your card. Please be sure to also include
your shirt size. (chose from Men S-XXXL or Woman S-XXL)"
i have to say i'm unsatisfied with this answer. its rather shady. they were asked specifically about honoring the "old contract" yet failed to address it. instead, they say its a simple fix and requests your CC info via email for an upgrade? is it definite that those who renewed prior to the change are "grandfathered" into the old terms of the membership contract?
I agree, you paid for it, they should honor your contract. Why don’t you get your membership confirmation email where it lists everything you membership entitles you to and the expiry date and send it back to them?
On a side note I am very happy to see we get to chose our t-shirt size and they even have ladies
I'm loving the dog shit trick comparative analogy Rowdy! This is some of your finest work to date... My shout on 10th March mate!! hahaha

I like this post.
+1
You are a hardcore fan because you are willing to pay whatever they ask you to?
Sick and sad ideas of what makes you a hardcore fan.
By the way, what Pearl Jam has given me is priceless too. And I will be thankful forever for that.
But that doesn't restrain me from using my head and make up my own mind.
that being a member of 10c / not being a member of 10 c
doesn't make you a true hardcore/not true hardcore fan
just because you can afford to pay for this membership doesn't give you superiority over the thousands of other pj fans who aren't in 10c.
the music, and how much it means to you = how much of a fan you are
and who are we to judge if other people are "true hardcore" fans?
i've seen this kind of treatment and attitude towards other fans of other bands, and i really really don't like it
sorry, just had to get that out there
rant over, didn't want to offend. just voice my opinion

"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
HAPPY 20TH!!! I'VE BEEN RIDING THE WAVE THE WHOLE TIME!! all I want to say is, thanks
What if I pay $40...would that clear me to make higher tiered comments.
