Are you opposed to a Casino in Philly or all casinos ?

I think he's opposed to the idea of a city getting out of debt by using a casino.

That's exactly it. I don't see how the benefits of having a casino in a metropolitan area outweigh the risks. I can't come up with any way these casinos will help the city more in the long run than they will hurt it.

Dude, do you read Philebrity? I check it out a lot, even though I think the editor is a super pretentious hipster douche, but people have emailed in with their own interviews, stories, etc. and that casino sounds like nothing but an absolute trashy freak show. When I move my boat down to Del Ave. in the spring I better not be looking at a shitty situation.

Um... Are the Phillies playing today?

(I have no problem with this thread being a catch-all Phila. talk thread, of course.)

I don't. I have heard of it but I should probably bookmark it. I will have to check it out. It's funny because all the guys in Fishtown that I know and hang out with at Liberties were all about the Casinos because of the traffic they thought they would get and the construction jobs. Well, now the construction is over and the traffic you are going to be getting is the complete opposite of what you were expecting.

I was talking to someone recently who went and said the crowd is really trashy.

It's funny, ever since I moved here I have always said that the waterfront there had potential. It's a bit off the beaten track but there is a lot of space and with the marinas i think they could have done something nice with it.

Just seems odd considering it's a huge game day. Maybe we all just know Hamels will dominate today and we're just not worried about it. :D

BUT, I will add that I agree with Cliffy that building casinos to pay off debt is an asinine concept. Look how well it worked at revitalizing AC!

i agree about the casinos. i hate that they keep popping up all over the place. i will add, though, that i know a bunch of people who've been to sugar house and the one in chester and they're always talking about how good a time they have and how hot the broads are...i've never been though. to me, part of the fun of going to the borgata or some other place in ac is that it's in ac--so its a little roadtrip with your buddies.

Yeah, even though it's only parlay bets, Delaware Park is an absolute blast - whether it be the ponies, football, poker, or table games. This is not an advertisement, it's just a good time. Check it out one Sunday. It's pretty cool sitting in the grandstands at the track watching games on their huge big screen monitor that is usually used for the races. Good times.

I went to the Sugar House on Saturday, my mom wanted to go and my dad is out of town. It was pretty enough, but I hate casinos so I wasn’t too thrilled with being there to begin with. Just wanted to get mom out of the house.

My mom did win $170 on the penny slots though. I didn’t know you could win that kind of money on a penny slot. I told her we had to be out by 5:00 because the Phils game was on later that evening so we were only there about and an hour and a half.

That being said, I’m out of here in an hour to get home in time for the bizarro 4:19 start time :? :D

    GO PHILLIES!!!!!
Don't come closer or I'll have to go

Read about a scout's report that R6 had 3 of his best at-bats of the season on Sunday. Maybe we'll see a bomb into the Cove today...

Do it. Beers are only 3 bucks, and hot dogs are a buck. I swear I don't work for them.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. Really nice approach at the plate for him. Feeling something big out of Chase and Ry today.

same lineup as game 2. i like it. i was unaware that utley has struggled against lefty relievers too though....

aaron rowand starting in center for giants :lol:

The Phillies will field the same line-up they ran out in Game 2, with Chase Utley batting second and Placido Polanco batting third.

Manuel made the prove to split up Utley and Ryan Howard prior to the start of Game 2. The primary purpose is to force the Giants to either make a pitching change or use a lefty reliever against a righty hitter in the later stages of a game, rather than allowing that reliever (the Giants two primary ones are Javier Lopez and Jeremy Affeldt) to face the Phils' two lefty sluggers back-to-back.

In Howard's last 11 postseason at-bats against lefty relievers, he is 0-for-11 with nine strikeouts. His last hit against a lefty reliever came in last year's World Series when he connected on an RBI double against Phil Coke.

In Utley's last 11 postseason at-bats against lefty relievers, he is 1-for-11 with three strikeouts, two walks, a hit by pitch, and a home run.

    Today's Phillies' lineup:

    Shane Victorino, CF
    Chase Utley, 2B
    Placido Polanco, 3B
    Ryan Howard, 1B
    Jayson Werth, RF
    Jimmy Rollins, SS
    Raul Ibanez, LF
    Carlos Ruiz, C
    Cole Hamels, P
Also, the Giants will start former Phillie Aaron Rowand in centerfield. Here is the Giants' lineup.

    Edgar Renteria, SS
    Freddy Sanchez, 2B
    Buster Posey, C
    Pat Burrell, LF
    Cody Ross, RF
    Aubrey Huff, 1B
    Juan Uribe, 3B
    Aaron Rowand, CF
    Matt Cain, RHP

Er, maybe. Didn't hear the telecast. Heard the two loudmouth Giants fans sitting next to us in Section 421. Well, not so loudmouth after the 7th inning.

WTF is it with utley and errors in the Playoffs ?!?!?!?!?!

Maybe if FOX got off of Hamels' nuts, they wouldn't have that problem. :). I had to mute the tv and pull up KNBR. Utley is this series' Brooks Conrad.

    GO GIANTS!!

Hamels has been lights out and a WS MVP in case you forgot ;)

  • Well there is a direct correlation between FOX stroking off a pitcher and errors made by Utley. The Giants don't care if he is an MVP. Kind of the same way they felt about Halladay in game 1. :)
