Great review on NPR.

Pretty much nails why I like the DBT so much. They do such a great job of blending celebration with desperation."You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I'd say start with 'The Dirty South' - I love that album.
Southern Rock Opera is also up there - probably their most loved album by hard core fans.
Dirty South and Decoration Day would be my starters then Southern Rock Opera. This show, another show, a show here and a show there.0 -
Thanks, I'll check 'em out.0

81 Needing a ride to Forest Hills and a ounce of weed. Please inquire within. Thanks. Or not. Posts: 58,276i dig Brighter Than Creation's Dark as well. 3 dimes down rules. but yeah, the southern rock opera is what hooked me.81 is now off the air0

I just saw them for the first time on Friday night, and it definitely won't be the last time. It's so great when good, honest people have such talent and cohesiveness as a band of musicians, despite their different personalities. Maybe they play it often, but it was a pleasant surprise when they closed the show out with Rockin in the Free World. They effin rock.0

I also like Brighter Than Creation's Dark, but not sure it's for everyone. Doesn't rock all the way through like some may like, but i love the length (19 songs)..cooley's songs rock too and there's many of them!0 -

so as my Dad's b-day gift this year I took him and a friend of his to the Philly show
we live in southern Delaware and so for shows I usually go to Philly but he'd NEVER even attempt to go to Philly himself so that's why I took him
anyway, I just happen to look on the website for the Bottle & Cork which is a small rock bar in our area (about 45min-1hr from us) that sometimes gets some good shows and I can't freakin believe it - the Drive by Truckers are coming June 3!!!! I never would have thought they'd come any closer than Philly!
so I let him know and of course he'll be attending that show and his friend that went to Philly with us has a b-day coming up so my Dad's going to surprise him with a ticket and maybe one of my uncles and for whatever reason he seems to really want me to go - so it looks like I'll be seeing them again soon!
Even though I didn't know any of their songs I thought they put on a good show in Philly...now I'm thinking I just might have to borrow some of my Dad's cd's
sort of a long post but I just wanted to share...I may end up a new fan!0 -
Posted this in another thread, but thought it may be of interest here too.

Two more days till the rock show! Last few times through they've played smaller venues, this is the first time at the HOB San Diego. Glad they are still hitting GA venues here, DBT is not a band meant for seated tickets.
Downloading the shows from the Orange Peel in NC (4/16-4/17) as a warm up. Lotta shows up over at Archive.org

Edited to add: The 4/16 has a great recording of the "You're Woman is a Livin' Thing" track that was the record store day single. They are playing it as intro music apparently. Good lord. One can only hope that the convince Cooley to play this live."You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
