so as my Dad's b-day gift this year I took him and a friend of his to the Philly show
we live in southern Delaware and so for shows I usually go to Philly but he'd NEVER even attempt to go to Philly himself so that's why I took him

anyway, I just happen to look on the website for the Bottle & Cork which is a small rock bar in our area (about 45min-1hr from us) that sometimes gets some good shows and I can't freakin believe it - the Drive by Truckers are coming June 3!!!! I never would have thought they'd come any closer than Philly!

so I let him know and of course he'll be attending that show and his friend that went to Philly with us has a b-day coming up so my Dad's going to surprise him with a ticket and maybe one of my uncles and for whatever reason he seems to really want me to go - so it looks like I'll be seeing them again soon!

Even though I didn't know any of their songs I thought they put on a good show in Philly...now I'm thinking I just might have to borrow some of my Dad's cd's

sort of a long post but I just wanted to share...I may end up a new fan!

Two more days till the rock show! Last few times through they've played smaller venues, this is the first time at the HOB San Diego. Glad they are still hitting GA venues here, DBT is not a band meant for seated tickets.

Downloading the shows from the Orange Peel in NC (4/16-4/17) as a warm up. Lotta shows up over at Archive.org

Edited to add: The 4/16 has a great recording of the "You're Woman is a Livin' Thing" track that was the record store day single. They are playing it as intro music apparently. Good lord. One can only hope that the convince Cooley to play this live.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Whew... Great night in SD. Working off of 5 hours sleep is a bit rough, but well worth it. This band is a fine-tuned, rock & roll beast.

Interesting setlist. Very few songs off of Dirty South, but quite a few that I was happy to hear and hadn't head live before (Panties in Your Purse, Tornadoes). Pleasently suprised to hear 18 Wheels with the intro again (The first part of the story, not the rest), I thought they had all but retired it after the last tour. Best part for me was getting both Sinkhole and Lookout Mountain.

Still waiting to hear Living Bubba and People Who Died, last 5 times through town they've not pulled either of these out. It's a testament to their songwriting skills that while being completely staisfied with the show I saw, I could easily have filled another setlist with songs I would have loved to have heard.

I'm constantly amazed by the work ethic of this band. Patterson most of all, but every single one of these guys put in 100%.

    Setlist:
    Daddy Learned to Fly
    Marry Me
    4th Night of My Drinking
    Birthday Boy
    Girls Who Smoke
    Devil Don't Stay
    Women Without Whiskey
    Wig He Made Her Wear
    Get Downtown
It's Gonna Be (I Told You So)
    This Fucking Job
    Three Dimes Down
    Sinkhole
I Know Your Daddy Hates Me
    Zip City
    Santa Fe
    Panties in Your Purse
    Flying Wallendas
    Hell No I Ain't Happy
    Self Destructive Zones
    Lookout Mountain
    E:
    Tornadoes
    One of These Days
    18 Wheels of Love
Shut Up and Get on the Plane

We picked the album up last week... I can't stop listening to Birthday Boy and Drag The Lake Charlie.

Incredible album but I found it quite different to the DBT i'm used to... that isn't a bad thing :D

I just want them to tour Europe :(
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Oh well aren't you the lucky one :P

Daddy Learned to Fly is a fantastic song but it hit me a bit hard when I first heard it as I lost my Dad last year.

Santa Fe is really growing on me :D

Song of the day is The Wig He Made Her Wear though

    So.... how was it?!

Awesome! Totally, totally awesome! They played so damn long! Here are just a few songs they played:

    Daddy Learned To Fly (opener)
3 Dimes Down (This one really got me rockin')
    Birthday Boy
    Ronnie and Neil (fucking awesome)
    Zip City
The Wig He Made Her Wear
    The Flying Wallendas
    After The Scene Dies
    Let There Be Rock
    Feb 14
    Where The Devil Won't Stay
    Daddy Needs A Drink
    A Ghost To Most
    Get Downtown
    Eighteen (Alice Cooper cover!)
    Marry Me
    Home Field Advantage
(It's Gonna Be) I Told You so (maybe got the title wrong?)

...not in order, but that's all I can remember at the moment. They played every song I wanted to hear excluding Gravity's Gone. They didn't play Heathens or Santa Fe (two of my absolute faves), but Patterson played them at the in-store!

My pal got a bit too drunk last night, but was a real trooper and made the best of it. There was some tool that was tryign to mosh at a DBT show. Patterson stopped the show and called him out saying, "Look, we already talked about this. Get this guy out of my face, if you're going to be a dickhead don't do it at a Drive-By Truckers show man, we don't need that. I can't even drink a beer on our own stage and I have to put up with this shit. I want to see ladies around here and there ain't gonna be any ladies with a ton of dickheads. If I'm going to see dickheads I want some ladies there too..."

The dude was then thrown out. Hilarious and awesome. Go Patterson...he looked genuinely pissed off too. :?

Funny thing is, during the opening band...said dickhead was trying to pick up on my girlfriend right in front of me. A real class act.

My day just got a lot better....just realized I will be going to see them in June! I don't know how I missed the show when the tour was announced....maybe it was added later, but I'm excited to have the chance to see them again
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

dcfaithful - Glad you enjoyed your first DBT show. It sounds like it was a good one.

I have 3 DBT shows coming up in June - Dewey Beach, Tarrytown, and the Ramble with Levon Helm. Anyone else going to any of these?

I want to see one of the shows where DBT will open for Petty. Burgettstown & Cincy are the two I'm thinking about.
