    OK.

Cooley is a badass, both in terms of lyrics and delivery. Zip City is a hell of a song.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Zip City is one that I missed for a while somehow...then one day it just clicked...fantastic song. Cooley should really do more solo work than Patterson in my opinion.

I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion's of The Secret to a Happy Ending...i thoroughly enjoyed it and appreciated the bits with Jason talking about his departure and all. Great film for a great great band says I

So glad someone agrees - quite possibly my favorite song from them. Cooley is my preferred songwriter in the band, but that's not to say that no one else has some mean chops, especially Patterson.

Now that I know of it, my life would be incomplete without the LIve From Austin, TX version of Zip City - it's just absolutely perfect.

I don't know if it's the fact that Patterson is so much more prolific than Cooley, but it does seem that Cooley's songs are more consistent and lyrically thought out/solid. If I had to choose a preferred songwriter though, I'd have to go with Patterson. He hits that raw rock & roll nerve when he's at his best.

As for Zip City, it hit me the other day on a drive, that it's one of those perfect driving songs. Unfortunately, I was stuck in traffic, so I couldn't really rev it up.

On the other hand, singing along to:

    I got 350 heads on a 305 engine
I get ten miles to the gallon
I ain't got no good intentions

Isn't quite the same when you're driving a hybrid civic anyway...

Haven't seen Secret To A Happy Ending yet. I'll have to order it, it's not available through Netflix.

I need to watch that DVD too. Yes, Zip City is a great driving song - I feel that the whole Southern Rock Opera record is a great road trip record.

I caught their show at the Hangout music festival and i've seen them before but they were on fire that day. Particularly the last 40 minutes of their set. Pure bad ass.

I saw Patterson after the show was over leaving the stage headed back to their truck and he had a half gallon of jack in his hand and looked like he was ready to party :D

One of my fav shows of the weekend.

Agreed on all counts. I was on the rail in front of Cooley. DBT, Motorhead, Widespread Panic, My Morning Jacket, Foo Fighters, and Dead Confederate were my favorite sets of the festival.

As to the Cooley question raised on the board, the talk from the band was always been that Cooley is one of the slowest song-writers on the planet....similar words I heard/or seen written straight from Stroker Ace himself. He think he said it would take about 11 years or so for him to write the material for a solo album.

"The Secret to a Happy Ending" was one of the best, if not the best, rock doc that I have ever seen. Actually respected the band more after seeing the film....which is saying a lot considering my positive feelings beforehand.

All praises to "Zip City"......a to-die-for live experience.

I just bought the vinyl/CD combo of Patterson Hood's Murdering Oscar (And Other Love Songs), and I must say it is quite good.

Definitely a worthy pick up for any DBT (Patterson heavy) fan.
