Great interview with Patterson Hood at the link below...

Two new albums? Is he referring to the B-sides collection or is there another album on the way that I don't know about...haven't heard of this "Go-Go Boots".

Go-Go Boots is their next album of new material. It was originally said to be coming out in 2010 but has been pushed back to 2011. They have already started playing some of it during their live shows (as of May I think).

Yeah, just found this on Wikipedia:

Throughout periods of 2009, the Drive-By Truckers entered the studio and emerged with two albums worth of material. The songs were divided between March 16, 2010's release The Big To Do and the upcoming Drive-By Trucker "R&B Murder Album" Go-Go Boots (which is currently slated for a late 2010 release). The Big To-Do further brought media attention to the band, resulting in their highest chart success, appearances on David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon's late night shows, as well as a scheduled tour with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.[3] The band's contract with New West Records expired after The Fine Print was released, and the band signed and released The Big To-Do on ATO Records.

Can't wait. This band is easily in my favorite 3. They are fucking incredible song writers and they just do rock n' roll in a way that is nearly extinct.

I just noticed the Mobile show in September. I'd love to drive over and catch that one, as it's the closest one to me.

Patterson Hood announced from the stage in Bristol last Saturday that "Everybody Needs Love" would be on Go-Go Boots and that the album would come out in February 2011.

  • This may sound like a stupid question but I'm rather new to DBT - now that Jason Isabell is gone, do they still sing any of his songs live?

To my knowledge, they don't but he does at his shows

They don't. Love that guy's voice and his songs are great....so I wish they did, but it wouldn't be the same anyway. I'm still kicking myself for not seeing him earlier this year when he was just a couple of hours down the road

im usually the last guy who is a good spellar but ;)
    www.jasonisbell.com

having said that i became a fan cause of that 3 singer/songwriter/guitar player frontal MASS attack that existed when jason was in the band. i still miss him mostly cause i didn't see this band before he joined so all i knew was that the dbt had him in it. someday i hope he returns, though that is highly doubtful is my guess. but its still all good, just different. not hearing jasons tunes in the dbt fold kinda hurts cause his numbers were a++

but jason didn't disappear! and his shows are still amazing. he's an incredible songwriter. imo
  • Hi all.

My hubby-to-be and I have tickets for Manchester, UK (12th Nov) and Birmingham, UK (13th Nov)

Unfortunately something big has come up on the 12th and we now can't make it to the show (trust me, we've tried everything)

Our Manchester tickets are now for sale. Face value (£15 per ticket) is all we ask...

    PM me if you're interested.

I've been on a Truckers kick lately and listening to Southern Rock Opera quite a bit. Given the meaning that Patterson has supplied for the song Angels and Fuselage, it has become one of my favorites. However, it is incredibly haunting and vivid.

    Patterson's explanation:

Set inside the plane after the engines shut down and everything went quiet. Just the sound of the wind over the wings and your own heartbeat. Again, Miss Kelly Hogan plays the part of Cassie.

The song is a recollection of the moments before Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed. Cassie, being one of the back-up singers, and sister of then guitarist Steve Gaines. For those that don't know, Skynyrd's plane was en route from Greensville, South Carolina to Baton Rouge, Louisiana when one of the engines failed during the flight. The plane crashed in a swamp 5 miles north of Gillsburg, Mississippi. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist/vocalist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines (Steve's older sister), assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray were all killed on impact.

The lyrics are what really make it a chilling tune:

Looking out the window, the trees are getting closer it seems.
    Thinking bout you Darling.
Adding up the cost of these dreams.

Strapped to this projectile, just a blink ago I was back in school.
Smoking by the gym door, practicing my rock-star attitude

And I'm scared shitless of what's coming next.
I'm scared shitless, these angels I see in the trees are waiting for me.

The engines have stopped now. We all know we are going down. Last call for alcohol.
Sure wish I could have another round.

And I'm scared shitless of what's coming next.
Scared shitless, these angels I see in the trees are waiting for me.
    Waiting for me.

    Friends in the swamp.
Friends on the ground, in the trees.
    Angels and fuselage.

Just got into them, I think they're fantastic! Only have listened to The Big To-Do so far, but will definitely be checking out more!
Also, fun fact: the drummer is my guitar teacher's cousin!

That's awesome! The EZB is the shit.

Interestingly enough, I work with a woman who knows another woman who was apparently in a pretty committed relationship with Johnny Neff. Come to find out the last I heard was that they're no longer together and Johnny Neff and Shonna are now a thing. How true that is, I don't know...but it was still an interesting fact.
