Got my copy yesterday. Totally agree. Fucking awesome. First two songs are good, then it really kicks into gear with Birthday Boy. Cooley writes and delivers lines like no one else.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I could not agree more. His songs are so slick. It's no wonder he's called "The Stroker Ace". 8-)

patterson has some solid tunes on this new cd, but that didn't surprise me

one really awesome mike tune(birthday boy) left me a bit puzzled, cause usually there's more

shonna tunes im still not sold on...especially any sleepy ones

i still miss jason in the line up. he is an incredible songwriter

bottomline, i still love this band and sometimes i'm not sold until i see the songs played live

cooley said in a few interviews that he's had a hard time writing the last few years but lately it's started to come more. i miss jason too. i found the truckers just a few months after he joined and thought he was perfect for the band. it's hard to be in a band with your ex-wife though!

I need to give this one a few more spins.

i liked it but it did not blow me away and it fell victom of having too much new music to listen to so i moved on.

Some solid tunes here though. They sounded really goood live that is for sure.

wow i didn't know that. he's written sooo many good songs that i'll cut him a break ;)8-)

his tunes off the last cd i liked more than this newest one. 3 dimes down, perfect timing, self destructive zones and, ghost to most is my fave tune off that whole last cd. weird. and i especially love that live from austin cd/dvd combo with many mike songs :)

patterson and hood are amazing songwriters so there are really no complaints, just personal opinions on best of lists!

They are one of the hardest working bands around today. Drive-By Truckers kick fuckin' ass.

    this is true.

at the show 2 weeks ago patterson said they would all love to be home with their families and small children but at one point rock and roll had saved his life and this was their way of giving back. i thought that was an awesome moment.

they and PJ are 2 of my top 5 favorite bands. cooley and patterson are both in their mid forties as are PJ and the two bands go about their business in completely different ways. DBT does everything to communicate with their fans and PJ seems to try to keep everything controlled. i know they are on way different levels but i've always thought about their differences. i think DBT would be a great opener for PJ too.

How did R&R save his life? I heard him say that before, but don't know how. Is this from Let There be Rock?

I think growing up in small town Alabama would be tough for him since his beliefs were different from pretty much everyone around him. I think it's all in the liner notes.

    Friendly reminder.

    Great review on NPR.

Pretty much nails why I like the DBT so much. They do such a great job of blending celebration with desperation.

I'd say start with 'The Dirty South' - I love that album.

Southern Rock Opera is also up there - probably their most loved album by hard core fans.

Dirty South and Decoration Day would be my starters then Southern Rock Opera.

I just saw them for the first time on Friday night, and it definitely won't be the last time. It's so great when good, honest people have such talent and cohesiveness as a band of musicians, despite their different personalities. Maybe they play it often, but it was a pleasant surprise when they closed the show out with Rockin in the Free World. They effin rock.

Actually I agree (if I could change it)

I also like Brighter Than Creation's Dark, but not sure it's for everyone. Doesn't rock all the way through like some may like, but i love the length (19 songs)..cooley's songs rock too and there's many of them!
