Listen to this...this is from 92.. The band playing a small club and ed talks about the record company around the 4th minute ( end of the song)
I don't think PJ sold out and I think it has always been ed "Vs" the world, in general, but not everyone in the band feels 100% the way Ed does. Now its not like ed can still have that same "i don't give a fuck" attitude.... with out considering everyone else and there life's.........If there was a moment when ed sold out ...it would have to be the day he first put on a clean shirt ....LOL... I know there are some of you out there who still, to this day, are wearing the same clothes you did during the 90's/...... your holding up the fort and not selling out! ...   :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
Ed still fights a good fight! He is now taking a smarter approach.... Zinn remains in his heart

the words sell out lose meaning a short while after a person turns 22.

Little over that but yeah, I agree with what you're gettin' at :D

Although, I must admit that hearing this piece of news almost made me throw up in my mouth just a little bit.

And the songs they chose to play? The Fixer, yeah. Perfect. But Real Me and of all songs MUTHAFUCKIN' PORCH??? Are you fucking kidding me?? Just play Wishlist and get over it.
I have no patience for bad music and stupid people...

I live in Minneapolis, heard a rumor this might happen this am by a friend who works for Target. Was hoping it was a big lie.....guess it wasn't. Guess I"ll take my ass to Boston, London, and Berlin this summer to see them instead. WTF?

I don't want to get into the whole sell out or compromising debate at the moment. The story does make me cringe a bit but I don't know all of the details. The one thing I do find curious is why this event gets no official mention here on the band's official website? I can understand why it wouldn't before the event but why not after? Keeping it secret after the fact makes it seem worse than it might have actually been.

all i know is what he's said about a million and one times at shows. the proof is right there. covering up corporate banners, talking shit about the people in the skyboxes, etc etc etc. just admit it. i doesnt destroy my love for the music, because i dont give a shit what their stances are anyway, but the fact is they sold out by their OWN standards.

they really dont NEED Target, and no, they wouldnt go broke in a year. that is fucking crazy. do you follow any other bands?

and the only thing they owe me personally is the twenty bucks i paid for Avocado. for the rest were even!

"it's because people are looking only skin deep at this, rather than seeing the real meat of it."

just think about this a little more...you'll get it eventually
i know what you're saying and i used to agree with you and defend this whole Target thing, but after this tour shit and the Target show, im thinking i was dead wrong.

but i will go back and defend them on this: i havent heard them bitching about corporate stuff lately and if they have just changed their minds, thats fine. people do change. but if they go around bitching about Wal-mart or whatever on this tour then that is just being fucking hypocrits.

and its still ok to sing Satan's Bed or Green Diseaese because thats how they felt when they were written. that doesnt bother me.

the only thing that bugs me are these people who keep saying Pearl Jam HAD to play this gig or HAD to make these deals. they absolutely did not. they WANTED to make these deals. nobody forced them to and they could still make bank without them. dont pretend they didnt have a choice in the matter. thats just shifting blame to the big bad evil corporation .

Big deal..they scratched the back of the company that they are under contract with..
The same people who bemoaned the Rock Band deal as selling out..I fucking love playing Ten and Backspacer on Rock Band with my friends and I am 33.
And the whole Ticketmaster thing back in the day was also about not getting screwed over by a huge corporation..but money too...as Ticketmaster fees were money that could be going to the bands.

Pearl Jam support so many causes and charities and do so many free shows..the glass is always half empty to some on this board.

    My reaction:

None of my touring friends there + 3 song setlist = eh, don't care about the show, no problem with missing this one.

    Nothing else matters.

I guess none of you realize that every band does these corporate things, for the same reason certain celebs only do commercials overseas - huge payoff (in PJ's case, obviously a caveat of making their deal with Target). They are not publicly announced for obvious reasons: this kind of bullshit thread.

Everyone loves bringing up Radiohead, but they played plenty of 'secret' corporate gigs around the time of The Bends...

If PJ sold out, it was the day they signed with Epic. And before you ever hears a note of their music.

The sheer level of expected personal entitlement on this board astounds me. Grow up.
There's a lot to be said for nowhere...

yeah so you know about this one. think of all the others that have gone on over the years that you DON'T know about. whoooooooo caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaares?!

does pearl jam make you happy? do you wiggle a little when you hear the intro to Sad? does ed's voice put the boom boom into your heart? does mikey send your soul sky high when his solo starts? does stoney jitter bug into your brain? does matt's drum beat go bang bang bang til jeff's bass does the same?

    ..i forget my point

    oh yeah

it's all about the music isn't it? if doing a show for their target friends was part of the deal then good for them. michael buble was on kath and kim and he seems like a nice guy. norah jones has a beautiful voice. joe jonas... maybe their kids love them? and i have no idea who any of the others are.

~ Will I still love every song they write.........yes. Will I still go see them live every chance I get..........yes. Will I still consider them and the music they created apart of who I am......yes. Will I always have nothing but kind words for every member in Pearl Jam as long as I'm alive.....yes. Will I still listen to them everyday of my life........yes. Will I still get chills even thinking about Mike McCready filling my head with his magical guitar screams........yes. Will Eddie Vedder still always be the voice and poet dearest to my heart......yes. Will I still hold Stone and Jeff in a special place in my heart that I've had since I first saw them play in Green River.......yes. Do I consider this band and the music they make to be a major part of my life........yes. Will I brag about the integrity the band has anymore to everyone.........no. ~

~ I kind of feel like that quote a little I guess. But my love is for Pearl Jam and I feel they should know how we fans feel even though it's not my life or my band. ~ :|

~ I'm going to go listen to Backspacer and then VS and then Yield. Goodnight everyone. ~

from the outrage i am assuming that for every note they played at this shindig, a tiny orphan was clubbed to death?

if that's the case then... naughty boys. if not... then... um... yeah.

They could play at Walmart as far as I am concerned.

As long as they give them money to fix the presales issues? Yes?
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.
