That is different from religion. Religion does not change. When religion ruled law... science was explained from a viewpoint of religion. That is how the Earth (Man) got placed at the center of the Universe with the sun revolving around the Earth. Because Man was the center of God's focus. To say otherwise, was risking death. Religion does not change unless change is thrust upon it... such as when Copernicus used scientific methodology to describe the heliocentric solar system. Man was no longer the center of God's creation. When Martin Luther forced change and stood against the Roman Catholic Church to set off the Protestant reformist view of Christianity. Religion did not change on its own. The Bible is not open to new chapters, amendments or addendums. It is a fixed state.
And read the things in here... I am saying I know that I don't know, while others say they know all there is to know, regarding God and this life. The reason why I doubt that claim is because I do not have faith in the Roman Catholic Church... who pretty much have the Bible in its sole possession from about 400 to the 1500s. The Roman Catholic Church defined what the Bible should be. I don't trust the Roman Catholic Church or its Pope and Bishops... so, it is difficult for me to proclaim the bible as the absolute truth. I'm not saying it is or it isn't... i'm saying I don't know... but, from what I gather, I cannot trust the authority of the church.
    ...
So, I understand your position on faith in science... but, please, try to understand... to me... science is not my religion. Science is a more methodical explanation of the nature of things and the explanation presented to me by religion. I can place my faith in the scientific method... and still have a spiritual belief in God. The biggest difference being, the God I believe in is not the God that religion paints Him.

Remove religion completely. God the father sent and spoke through Jesus and several other men through visions to compile the bible. The roman catholic church can be considered evil. Power and control by men are not of God. You + the bible + prayer through the spirit are all a person needs to see the nature of God and what he wants of us. We know that men are evil. We know they screw up what God intended but the three things I listed above are all you should use to base your opinion of God on. Not other men's faults. God spoke, used visions and interventions at times through history when he was making amendments to his word. His word is complete which is why humans haven't experienced any direct wonders from him. The end of another age could very well be upon us and everyone knows the story of Jesus. The story has been told, it's your choice to head Gods way or the earthy father from bellows way.

I don't know... but, from what I can gather... you just described religion (Christianity, to be specific).
The methodolgy I would need to employ would be to:
    1. Accept the Bible as the true word of God... and release my feelings towards the Holy Roman Church of 400 to 1500 A.D. having sole custody of the book.
    2. Pray through Jesus Christ and accept Him as my conduit to God... because Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit are One.
Yeah.. sounds like Christianity to me... and at last check, Christianity is still a religion.
    ...
And it is not of my opinion that all men are evil. Imperfect, fucked up, poor decision makers (at times), but not all people strive to impose evil on their neighbors. And yes, there are sociopaths out there that have no remorse... but, they are the exception, not the rule. I would have to believe I was an evil person who needs to have Biblical Commandments to keep me from killing people, stealing their stuff or coveting their ox's and asses. It is the human in me that knows these things are wrong. That would be something else I would need to do.
All of this just raises too many questions (that have gone unanswerd to me for decades) for me. I'm going to let the humanity in me guide me through this journey.

if God is "all good" why does he let women and children get raped? or millions of people get homeless because of a natural disaster? or millions upon millions of people die because of disease, poverty, injustice, etc etc.?
all the while serial killers go on living a healthy life?

How can he let people steal babies in Uganda and allow the rich to slice them open and use their organs for witchcraft?

    I find this unbelievable.

    Let me try this one...

The people that get killed/raped/harvested, etc. have not accepted Jesus into their hearts. Once you accept Jesus into your heart everything is wonderful and all your prayers are answered and you never get hurt.

You obviously haven't read the bible. Once you read it your life will be transformed.

  • A supernatural force is evil. Explain to me what evil is?

a god who kills (or lets die) someone in a car crash so that his friend will become a believer.

death is a result of our sinful nature. God doesnt kill or keep people from dying. The evil one made that disease that existed outside of the garden or made that guy drink before he got behind the wheel not God.
so why does the drunk guy behind the wheel survive the accident, and the guy in the other car who was doing nothing wrong, die?

how is that merciful. why is your god so kind to the unthankful and evil?

like what I mean is, why worship something that apparently lets bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people? sounds like an asshole to me. but if he's all good then are all those things good? and if he's all powerful then how come he can't get rid of the bad? if the man can make an entire universe in 6 days how come he can't get rid of cancer in people?

you know, the old, can God make a soup so hot he can't eat it?

i asked this same thing when i went to sunday school. supposedly god knows us before we are ever born and knows everything we will ever do, and if god creates us then why create someone he KNOWS will do bad things??

my question was directed more at why does god allow kids to be molested and my teacher told me how do i know that by this 1 kid being molested it doesn't save 10 or even 100 kids from being molested?? when i asked why god needs to let ANY kids get molested i was told it is not our place to question god....

  • my version of god is as follows: whatever "it" is cannot be explained by our little advanced-primate minds. Using words to describe god is like using a screwdriver to slice roast beef. "god" does not control people's actions or "evil"... people do. I think god is in everything... in you and me... in every living thing. god is the infinite, the timeless, the cosmic energy, the pleasure and pain, everything in some sense and NOTHING in some sense too. People have sensed a "presence" and all tribes and cultures have a different story to tell about god or gods... but most of the stories share a same message when broken down.

I also have a weird feeling that god is a prankster.

just my opinion, and I am probably (like 99.9999999%) wrong.

what i don't get is if god is supposedly everything how can god be a male? and i agree, we can't comprehend what 'it' is. i always thought religions were basically the same with the same overall messages with the difference coming from their different cultures.

i think it is ridiculous to think of "god" as a male. God is not an old man in the clouds... I don't think god has gender... if there is a god.

I don't know but I would be VERY surprised if I die and meet god at "pearly gates" and he is an old man.
