Basically what I was trying to say is: "It's not shitty Nickelback." They may not reach a higher audience, but at least they aren't selling out.

    And thank god for that.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

I'm surprised no one's complaining they only played one song.

Absolutely. My problem is the fact that he does that sound on purpose. As I've mentioned before... see Comatose. This was the same style of vocal delivery... rapid fire word-spitting that equates to him basically mumbling and screeching. Even on a great night, that kind of song is going to sound bad. Ed's voice isn't made for that, it's made for singing. They used to be able to rock without having to just double the tempo of everything. See Leash and Animal, Last Exit, Hail Hail... all songs that rocked but still allowed Ed to SING and the band to play rather than just strum like a hamster with ADD on its wheel.

It doesn't take much to please me. I liked Army Reserve. WWS was one of the better rockers of recent years... again, it unfolded much slower, Ed mumbled, but there was still a musical rhythm to his singing, not spoken word at double speed. Just give the band some room to breathe. I feel like anymore I'm listening to a week early Green Day album.
I just hope that you will give the band more credit than you are giving them. It's one performance on a Late Night Talk Show.

I'll be listening to the new album with an open mind, but this doesn't bode well. This sounds exactly like what the band described as their goal in that Rolling Stone article which alarmed me at the time. Now this song... like I said, it seems like the band is purposely taking their sound in the exact direction that hasn't appealed to me over the last few albums. Plus tonight I found out the ex-gf I've been in love with for years and never got over is engaged to the guy she dumped me for. So overall, a rather disappointing evening... I've been abandoned by both my loves ;)

What a bunch of negative, disgruntled bitches complaining about this song.

It's the first fucking time we are hearing it, the sound wasn't even good, and it still kicked ass. Stop jumping and assuming so god damn quick.

We know the band is going to be 20, and we know what they have done already... change to me is good. Stop acting like you thought we were going to get Vs part 2... because we are not. That era is over with. It doesn't have to be the same in order for it to be good. And I can't wait for "Backspacer".

    1. It didn't kick ass. It was utterly boring and forgettable. The fact that they jumped and growled a lot doesn't make it kick ass.

    2. Change is good. There is nothing new about that song. Same boring racing riffs they've been trying to make work (to no avail) since Binaural. Same awkward, rushed, word throaty spitting/growling from Ed (the guy that used to be able to belt out vocals from his gut and make the world pause to listen). There was nothing new about this song other than Matt's fancy drumming, which is not new, they just finally injected it into a new song from the get go rather than waiting to insert it live.

I sort of agree with you after listening to it a few times. Im really fucking disapointed. It just sounds like some modern punk rock song that any band could have written. Other than Matts good drumming, I cant say Im a fan. I thought I liked it, but now im just like "meh". Jeffs bass playing sounded like a generic punk bass line played with a pick. At first I thought it would be cool that PJ is trying to sound more modern and write a song like that, but it doesnt fit. They are 40 something years old, it doesnt work. I hope the rest of the album isn't like that. I'm more impressed with Santa Cruz then that song. Atleast the leaked showbox song was awesome.

My reaction during Conan... didn't understand a word Eddie said, music was pretty rockin'... average at best.

I, like a lot of others, downloaded an mp3 (which did seem more clear than my TV) from this site and found the lyrics that were posted on the site and an now MUCH HAPPIER! Eddie's voice was off, which is quite disappointing... but overall I like the song.

For me, it's real hard to hear a loud rocker for the first time on TV. Anybody else? I remember hearing "Grievance" on Letterman before Binaural came out. I wasn't real impressed after the first viewing. It took a few listens and ultimately became one of my favorit Pearl Jam rockers. Same thing with "Severed Hand" on SNL. I agree with what somebody posted about the average Conan viewer though... with the bad TV sound and the indecipherable Ed lyrics, it's nothing that's going to add to their fanbase.
