The sound WAS HORRIBLE. Not PJ's fault. Ed kinda struggled with screaming.. maybe he's sick?

Song from what I heard sounded really good. I liekd it a lot, diff sound. Can't wait to buy Backspacer!

  • Yeah the sound was really bad. Couldn't make out a word Eddie was singing.

Cover art looked kinda cool. Song was alright.

I LOVED the style and direction.. very modern..

It's going to take some time to digest though. It seemed like a complex song, and DIFFERENT, which is GOOD!

I don't want to hear something that sounds like other stuff they've done.. people bitchin here want Yield 2.. I DON'T. I already have that album..

I want something new, and this sounded like it!

I think the sound quality was the reason why I wasn't over the top happy with it. The song was different, which I think is great. I need more time to digest it. I'm happy JS made this thread because I'd like to see other's opinions.

It's a complex tune and different then anything they've done yet still unmistakebly a PJ song. It really picks up at the end. The outro with Mike needs to be longer, he was killin it. Stone was real into it. Matt's drumming was great. That little breakdown towards the end is a highlight too. I'm diggin it. Now what's its name? I don't think that was "The Fixer." It sounds different from that Showbox clip, although muffled. And the good news that Mike is turned up. I have faith in Brendan O'Brien.

I thought it was an interesting song for sure, but you could tell Ed just was not feelin it especially at the end when Conan came out to the stage. The show was really disappointing, that interview with Farrell was terrible. I just don't think the band was vibing it. I'm pumped to hear that song on a legit record produced by o'brien, not some punk-ass NBC sound dude. I'm not worried

    1. Surprised/happy they didnt play "the fixer". It seems they layed the "kings of leon" matt cameron/stone groove song quoted from RS.
    2. It sounded like a KOL song.
    3. Matt has a different kit, its still yamaha, but it looks almost exactly like his old Ayotte. His toms sound better though it seems
    4. Matts drumming was finally fucking complex for Pearl Jam!!!!! fucking finally.
    5. Overall the song was good, i was just sort of like "what the fuck?" listening to it. It was so KOL/modern sounding. I actually prefer the leaked "the fixer" better. the ending with mike was awesome, but they sure as fuck better extend that shit for their shows.
    6. Eds vocals were struggling, shame shame shame.
    7. I think the younger audience will like it.
    8. Lastly, I was really fuckin surprised they had the album art and title out already.

I just listened 4 more times. I like this song a lot. Going to be awesome hearing it in a arena. I can't wait for Backspacer!!!

The breakdown is great, great guitar work by Mike, and Ed wasn't at 100% but the sound didn't help.

yea, Im real disappointed. Just because I thought the sound was unbelievably bad. I dont know whether to think Ed was struggling cause he was making some faces I had never seen him make before. And the sound was worst with his vocals. Im gonna have to watch it a few dozen times to make up my mind.
If there is one thing I can be sure that is positive, the artwork was ballin. It reminded me of the cartoon characters from DTE. Anyone??

I'm in your camp ... I've listened to it 4 or 5 times now, and it grows on me a lot ... I can see rocking out to this at Golden Gate Park in August!!!

Hopefully it was Ed's voice that was rough tonight and not the mic that was kicking out, hope they aren't buying their equipment at Target now ...

Yeah WAY different than I expected. That couldnt have been the 'snippet' of a song we heard yesterday was it? Sounded totally different?

Very fast paced. I love the guitar work and the tiny drum bits. Although the voice quality for Ed was pretty bad...it seems as if he sings damn fast the entire way thru.

    I like so far

FUCK YA! This song is awesome. So different from than anything we've heard in a while. Is it just me or does Ed look like he's pregnant with a bucket of crispy chicken? .....Just sayin

its because its a damn fast song! i know i couldn't keep up with that song.

I thought the vocals were pretty good, but thats going to be a tough one to pull off live.

I kinda thought it was, as the French say, le suck. I'm sure it will grow on me, but i don't think it will ever be a favorite. At most it will be a fun live song with no real substance.

Uh...people...I'm pretty sure the song was "The Fixer." I mean with lyrics like "I got some if you need it...I got some...get it now, get it all before it's gone!"

Sure sounds like a song sung by someone who is a "Fixer" to someone needing a "Fix."

Also, I didn't find it very complex...don't know where everyone is getting that. It seemed very power-chord based.

And I know what Curtis said in the billboard interview, but seems like he was probably confused about which song he was talking about (Target commercial or Conan) or maybe the editor at billboard F'ed up the article.

Lastly, the song was OKay. Nothing to write home about at all.

how are you saying that already? I couldn't understand much of the lyrics, largely in part to the sound quality of the tv.

Conan's show wasn't really as funny as I'd expected. I'm more loyal to Dave (and his techs would've had much better sound quality), but I was excited for Conan's debut. Kinda fizzled, in my opinion.

PJ brought lots of energy and the musical direction was/is intriguing. I caught myself wondering if Ed's contribution was a bit off because he looked a bit out-of-shape. Or perhaps it was just different to my ears. I'll have to re-view and think on that.

We have an album title, but no new info on release date or launch of the Target campaign (though Rolling Stone and Billboard are saying "early autumn"). I kinda wondered if there was going to be an explosion of album/tour info on pearljam.com just as soon as the performance ended.

This is going to some good places, I think. There's much forthcoming, and it would appear to be full of surprises and not the same-old, same-old.

    stone's guitar was too loud...
and ed's vocals were too quiet..

aside from that, i loved it.
a NEW sound. cool changes within the song.
need to hear it again. soon, please. 8-)

the art looked interesting. probably a mock-up.
i'm wondering what happened to them playing 2 songs?

You can't be serious. That song didn't have 1/1000th of the groove and soul KoL's weakest moments have. A younger audience hearing that is going to think "what the hell was that?" Yeah, the sound sucked, but that's not enough to obscure the fact that the song was weaker than hell. Ladies and gents... welcome to the latest in a long line (starting with gods' dice up through big wave) of half assed riff rockers that won't be played ever again after the album tour. No groove, no hook, no chorus, no decipherable lyrics, not even a verse as far as I could tell. This is everything I had hoped the new album would not be and feared it would be :( PJ... you're not teenagers anymore, quit trying to write lame punk songs that even teenagers would have the good sense to recognize as weak.

And who the hell thinks this is new? It sounds exactly like Comatose, take 2. Nothing modern about it. It's a half baked punk song with fancier drum fills.

    Great song. I love it!
  • The sound quality was awful. I totally was not feeling it. But now that I've gotten an mp3 which weirdly enough sounds a lot cleaner I'm starting to enjoy the song. Thanks to whoever uploaded that btw :)
