I wonder when the album will go on sale????

tentative date is sept 22 according to billboard's interview with kelly curtis

I'm really hoping it gets pushed up. Almost 4 months to wait is brutal.

What a bunch of negative, disgruntled bitches complaining about this song.

It's the first fucking time we are hearing it, the sound wasn't even good, and it still kicked ass. Stop jumping and assuming so god damn quick.

We know the band is going to be 20, and we know what they have done already... change to me is good. Stop acting like you thought we were going to get Vs part 2... because we are not. That era is over with. It doesn't have to be the same in order for it to be good. And I can't wait for "Backspacer".

    1. It didn't kick ass. It was utterly boring and forgettable. The fact that they jumped and growled a lot doesn't make it kick ass.

    2. Change is good. There is nothing new about that song. Same boring racing riffs they've been trying to make work (to no avail) since Binaural. Same awkward, rushed, word throaty spitting/growling from Ed (the guy that used to be able to belt out vocals from his gut and make the world pause to listen). There was nothing new about this song other than Matt's fancy drumming, which is not new, they just finally injected it into a new song from the get go rather than waiting to insert it live.

I sort of agree with you after listening to it a few times. Im really fucking disapointed. It just sounds like some modern punk rock song that any band could have written. Other than Matts good drumming, I cant say Im a fan. I thought I liked it, but now im just like "meh". Jeffs bass playing sounded like a generic punk bass line played with a pick. At first I thought it would be cool that PJ is trying to sound more modern and write a song like that, but it doesnt fit. They are 40 something years old, it doesnt work. I hope the rest of the album isn't like that. I'm more impressed with Santa Cruz then that song. Atleast the leaked showbox song was awesome.
    LOL you make sense.

You don't like the sound of this song.. but the Showbox song.. "Kicked ass".... im glad you can definitively make that statement. Bionic ears.

My reaction during Conan... didn't understand a word Eddie said, music was pretty rockin'... average at best.

I, like a lot of others, downloaded an mp3 (which did seem more clear than my TV) from this site and found the lyrics that were posted on the site and an now MUCH HAPPIER! Eddie's voice was off, which is quite disappointing... but overall I like the song.

For me, it's real hard to hear a loud rocker for the first time on TV. Anybody else? I remember hearing "Grievance" on Letterman before Binaural came out. I wasn't real impressed after the first viewing. It took a few listens and ultimately became one of my favorit Pearl Jam rockers. Same thing with "Severed Hand" on SNL. I agree with what somebody posted about the average Conan viewer though... with the bad TV sound and the indecipherable Ed lyrics, it's nothing that's going to add to their fanbase.

I guess that muffled sound is the direction a 40 something band should be headed. A new, unique "underwater" sound. ;)

I thought the same thing, it's in the same vein as the Showbox song. One kicks ass, but the other totally "fucking disappoints" him. People need to let this sink in. My least favorite songs after my cursory listens of Avacado (Unemployable, Life Wasted,) are now aming my faves of that album.

    It'll sink in.

You pick too many arguments here. I was just stating that I was unimpressed. So what if I said I liked a poor quality recording better.

Whatever, Im listening to it now trying to picture myself at the concert drunk having a good time. Its sort of working. I think its going to have to grow on me.

in that vein, that punk rock agressive feel ... I'll give you that ....

    probably why I dug it.

Was it layered in complex guitars and stunning vocals? no. Just grabbed you by the balls and took you on a ride (I'm sure it grabbed the ladies in other parts too).

If I am remembering right the last time Pearl Jam was on SNL the audio was really bad also....you couldn't even hear Mike....this was on the east coast. They later fixed it when it aired on the west coast and it sounded great so maybe this will happen again.
  • KravenKraven Posts: 829
Anyone else imagine crazy clapping hands during the "got some if you need it" part of the song? I can just picture this song live and it is going to be awesome. Definitely a Corduroy esque crowd pleaser. Can't wait for a studio version.

First listen was crazy disappointing, now that I have it on the computer with headphones its definitely growing on me quite fast, just want a better recording and a lyrics sheet in front of me.
    32 shows and counting...

I don't think the Tonight Show is live like SNL...it is pre-taped. The audio mix should be the same for all broadcasts. Someone mentioned that Mike's guitar cut out live in the studio and you can hear a drop in volume in the broadcast but it is quickly fixed after a second or two, suggesting that maybe the audio was post-produced? I could be wrong. It would be cool to hear a better mix.

After reading all the comments i had to jump the gun 10 mins before my west coast showing.

It's much better than i was expecting. Sounds nothing like Comatose. KoL doesn't even come to mind (that's absurd).

Regardless, it's a quick tune. I think with some nice vocal layers the studio version will sound very thick.

I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for talking so much trash so that i was able to come in with no expectations. Some of you guys are soo f'n critical. It was a tv performance that obviously dind't have it's sound together yet for night one. Just move on

My first opinion was very promising as the band sounds great but Eds vocals didn't sound too great (my computer speakers aren't great). I've just had another listen through headphones and it's much better. I've noticed Ed make those kinda facial grimaces for a long time. Mike is fricken awesome, great to hear him ripping it up and I'm sure live he will, remember this was for tv. I'm sure I'll love it by after a few more listens and when I have the hard copy in my hands! Can't wait.
