Seemed like a pretty kick ass song, but shame they sound mixing was terrible and you could barely hear the vocals.
Can't wait to hear a good sounding version of the song though!2000: Pittsburgh

It sounded nothing like KoL. Besides, they're shit now. What the fuck is this world?0

2. It sounded like a KOL song.
3. Matt has a different kit, its still yamaha, but it looks almost exactly like his old Ayotte. His toms sound better though it seems
4. Matts drumming was finally fucking complex for Pearl Jam!!!!! fucking finally.
5. Overall the song was good, i was just sort of like "what the fuck?" listening to it. It was so KOL/modern sounding. I actually prefer the leaked "the fixer" better. the ending with mike was awesome, but they sure as fuck better extend that shit for their shows.
6. Eds vocals were struggling, shame shame shame.
7. I think the younger audience will like it.
8. Lastly, I was really fuckin surprised they had the album art and title out already.
You can't be serious. That song didn't have 1/1000th of the groove and soul KoL's weakest moments have. A younger audience hearing that is going to think "what the hell was that?" Yeah, the sound sucked, but that's not enough to obscure the fact that the song was weaker than hell. Ladies and gents... welcome to the latest in a long line (starting with gods' dice up through big wave) of half assed riff rockers that won't be played ever again after the album tour. No groove, no hook, no chorus, no decipherable lyrics, not even a verse as far as I could tell. This is everything I had hoped the new album would not be and feared it would bePJ... you're not teenagers anymore, quit trying to write lame punk songs that even teenagers would have the good sense to recognize as weak.
And who the hell thinks this is new? It sounds exactly like Comatose, take 2. Nothing modern about it. It's a half baked punk song with fancier drum fills.2008 - MSG 6/24-6/25

Wow. Didn't want to be that harsh, but well said. I remember when the band wrote songs that weren't powerchord-based riffs...oh those were the days.
Sonic Youth's "The Eternal," I am sure, will be about 10 times the album the "Backspacer" will be.
Quite frankly you two should be run over by a mack truck. :P Song was awesome, will be great on record. I loved the first two songs I have heard so far. PJ is a post-punk band, have been since Vitalogy, deal with it. I was scared that after the punk rawk of Avacodo they might go soft serve on us, but they did not, and i love them for it.

The breakdown is great, great guitar work by Mike, and Ed wasn't at 100% but the sound didn't help.
Arena? Outdoor shows really show what PJ is all about...0 -
i dug it. i liked the avocado album but when i first heard WWS, i was like 'uh-oh'. just not my favorite song.
after hearing this song, i'm VERY excited for the new record. really like this tune, whether it's 'the fixer' or not. whatever it is, it rocks...Mesa 11/7/93 - Charlotte 10/4/96 - DC 6/14/98 - Raleigh 8/31/98 - Knoxville 9/6/98 - Columbia MD 9/18/98 - DC 9/19/98 - Columbia MD 9/4/00 - Phoenix 10/21/00 - Raleigh 4/15/03 - Phoenix 6/7/03 - Philadelphia 5/27&28/06 - DC 5/30/06 - Las Vegas 7/6/06 - San Diego 7/7/06 - LA 7/9&10/06 - Gorge 7/22&23/06 - Chicago 8/5/07 - PJ20 9/3&4/11 - Jacksonville 11/24/12 (EV) - Orlando 11/27/12 (EV) - Brooklyn 10/18&19/13 - Charlotte 10/30/13 - Memphis 10/14/14 - Ft Lauderdale 4/8/16 - Miami 4/9/16 - Jacksonville 4/13/16 - Hampton 4/18/16 - Chicago 8/20&22/160 -

What a bunch of negative, disgruntled bitches complaining about this song.
It's the first fucking time we are hearing it, the sound wasn't even good, and it still kicked ass. Stop jumping and assuming so god damn quick.
We know the band is going to be 20, and we know what they have done already... change to me is good. Stop acting like you thought we were going to get Vs part 2... because we are not. That era is over with. It doesn't have to be the same in order for it to be good. And I can't wait for "Backspacer".Post edited by Jeremys Spoken on2008 - MSG 6/24-6/25

right there with you. WWS is my least favorite song off their last record. this song (in my opinion) is much stronger than WWS.I LOVE MUSIC.

Exactly, Stone was made for head bobbing. Play that song back for yourself right now. Tell me how the hell you can bob your head to that crap. Post punk is one thing... Talking Heads were post punk. It doesn't mean you can't have rhythm or a bit of funk in the sound, which is what made PJ so special... Stone kept just enough groove in the hard rock/punk to make the music fun. Vitalogy-Yield are my favorite albums because they exemplify that mixture (thanks Jack!). Now... now they sound like a sad bunch of middle aged men still trying to write Ramones songs... there's no more fun, no more beloved Stoney funk anymore.0 -
Listened to it a few times love the pace of it, lyrics sound pretty simplistic but have to expect that due to the tempo I guess. Artwork looks unfinished so I wouldn't say it is what the album will look like.
All up like it even with Ed struggling, band sounds tight.Im not supersticious, Im just a littlesticious.0 -
Loved the tempo, that song would be a good 2nd to 5th song in the set list. Think it would get the crowd rocking like animal or corduroy does that early on.Go Birds!!!!0
