Don't you just want to punch him in the fucking throat? Brainwashing is alive and well.

I thought of the same thing, when the exact same thing happened to the President George W Bush.

I have nothing against people worshiping/believing whatever they want, but it is very annoying when you have to hear someone go on and on about this new thing they discovered called Jesus Christ and how they hope you'll give him a chance, too. :D

Similarly annoying is when you stop going to church, but the rest of your family is still religious as hell (haha... me so ironic), and 8 years later, your mom still says "I prayed for you in church today. Because we know someday, you'll come back to the church. You will."

Is patronising me supposed to entice me back? :p

Everyone must walk their own road in this life ;)

we just have to accept this and accept people as they are

I don't pigeonhole myself into any religion (not even atheism or agnosticism) - my mind roams free. :)

Yeah...that's pretty much why I no longer communicate with the person who was my best friend growing up. She's married to a pentecostal preacher now, so that was pretty much the nail in that coffin.

Am I the only pearl jam fan who believes in God?

if you don't want to hear it, just change the subject. If they persist, tell them politely you are not interested (I read this in a magazine.)

you act like they robbed a bank or something.

I've never been religious and don't believe in God (with a capital letter) but my mother is a trainee baptist minister and my father also attends. My mother tells me regularly that the whole congregation at her church regularly pray for me and my brothers. That really pisses me off. It is so patronising. I have nothing against belief in God at all and certainly don't consider my own particular views to be 100% right. I believe they are but accept my fallibility. I am not opposed to the idea of a higher energy or spinozanist god and consider myself a spiritual person but find organised religion repulsive and the fact that this group of people are sat there saying "please be strong for the unsaved family members for they know not what they do" makes me want to headbutt people.

There is nothing more infuriating than a person who patronises you because they think they know something you don't when they could just accept that not everyone thinks the way they do and don't think there's anything to be saved from, nor would they want to be if there was. You're very naive if you think it's just a case of changing the subject. I don't try to force my non-belief (which, while not 100% dogmatic, is de facto atheism) on people, nor do I look down on them for not feeling the same as me. I am therefore perfectly within my rights to be pissed off when they don't show me the same courtesy.

my family always DOGGED a particular religion, one who goes door to door. I work with many women of that faith and one of them knows how troubled I've been for a couple of years and she knows why (becuase I tell her my business.)
Sometimes she gives me handouts from her church pertaining to my latest drama and there's some good stuff there. She's not forcing it down my throat either.

Next time, I'm considering saying "Oh, it's okay. Me and my fellow non-believers congregate on every other weekday to wish for you guys to join us. So I guess it's a stalemate." :D
