I believe in God and I am a Christian who is also a Pearl Jam fan. I am non-denominational in my religion though. I pray, but I don't attend Church regularly. I do get the motherly push to attend Church from my Mom.

I don't have a conflict with my spirituality and my love for Pearl Jam music.

Everyone can have their own opinion and I can discuss any subject without getting upset by someone else's ideas. The key for each party is to not convert the other. Express you opinions, if both parties are intelligent they will take the ideas of the other away to think about. People need to lighten the FUCK up.

addressing the original post: I think with somebody like that, you just need to bare with them. They just found something new that makes them feel good, they want to share it. Eventually its not as new and exciting, and they'll settle down a bit.

If not, they'll probably become a televangelist :D

People just react differently to that kinda thing.

This is my brother. He was the leat religous person you ever met now he has gone crazy. He spends a lot of time trying to convert the converted in our family. I think he just wants to tell other people what to do. At Christmas he was telling everyone he hopes they give more money to charity this year. (I know I probably give away more money than he makes). So, now when he says that I'm going to say "well I gave $10,000 to the Church of Satan, I heard they could use the money". That might shut him up a bit. At least get him to stop preaching at us.

It's more than likely that he didn't actually find god, but instead found the need to find him. That's generally the case with most people who "find" god. They just become so desperate for everything to make sense with a simple answer that they just give up on truth and instead embrace fantasy.

One might say live and let live, but if you truly are his friend and sincerely care for his well-being, you have an obligation to do everything in your power to ensure that he reliquinshes his desire for spirituality before it's too late -before he loses any hope of understanding life on life's terms rather than through the twisted lens of religion's terms.

Whatever you think about religion personally it's pretty fucking rude and ignorant to impose the idea that this guy needs 'protecting' from it. Get over yourself.

i believe in god...It seems like life would sort of miserable without belief in something bigger. The church may have its problems but god seems to be a pretty cool dude

i have a feeling that the new wave of catholicism ive seen with my generation is gonna be different... all the catholics i know are sick of the dogma and the hypocracy and are very casual about mass and everything... especially the ones that went to catholic school... as much as i have problems with the church ill probably still raise my kids catholic just because its a nice moral foundation... when approached the right way (i just wont let them be alterboys :D)

yey! :) I really hate it when people judge all Christians based on Catholics so I'll be more than happy to see the times a-changin'.

we should leave this debate at that... use that quote on your preachy friend to make him look like a hypocrit... along with my favorite bible passage Matt 6:5-6 (about keeping your faith to yourself)

I do as well........the only thing that frustrates me about some Christians is the ones that cannot come up with any of their own thoughts. I also cannot stand the people that go around talking about how they are saved and a better Christian than the average person yet they go out and do drugs, get drunk, fight somebody, sleep with random girls/guys, etc.

By the way, I am a very liberal Christian.

I agree. But if you have ever read anything I have ever said about God or Jesus, then you already know that I think he most likely thinks most beleivers are arrogant as shit. So, I try to not be in your face but I try to use my faith as my anchor.

yeah, me too. believing in Jesus is what makes you want to live life a way that is pure for you. living life in a way that looks like you still need all of the things that you need when you are trying to fill up some internal gaps and claiming to know what following Jesus is just looks like you still are lost. Those people are just name dropping if you ask me. And when you see people who are lost, sad, broken, you show them love, not pity or self righteous preaching. No one wants to be us following Jesus if we are assholes.

The only people I truly have to say I despise are the ones who are rude. Regardless if they are Christians or not, they just get to me if they are mean to everyone.
