welcome to the losers club Sox fans...sucks to be here, and you did give it a good/exciting run so congrats on a decent, if disappointing season. I'm wondering who you guys are going to go after in the off-season, especially in an offseason where everyone has money to blow. Solat I'm looking in your direction on this one...I kept hearing about how the Sox never commit errors and the like, but, aside from another Manny-like bopper, don't you guys have a need with range in the field? I guess Ellsbury and Youk are well above average, but everywhere else you could do with an upgrade right? Is my eyesight right on this or do the stats prove otherwise?

who are we referring to on the SOx?

all of major league baseball. why would it work for 29 teams, but not one?

I'm heading to lunch, but I can't call the season a disappointment at all. They won one less game in the regular season than in 2007 and almost made the World Series again. That could never be considered a disappointment. Plus they have resurrected their farm system.

I'll address offseason needs later, but Pedroia is a plus fielder and so is Lowell and Youk in the infield. And their OF defense is fine. Jacoby and Coco are plus fielders in center with below average arms, but high range. Drew is as adequate in right and Bay is an upgrade over Manny.

  • Well it was a tremendous series. I truly felt like the Sox would pull the improbable comeback last night, but alas, they just couldn't outlast the Rays. Really a good series. The Sox do have some needs and it starts with another strong arm for the rotation, an excellent hitting catcher and some bullpen help. Can you imagine a rotation with a healthy Beckett, Dice-K, Lester and Jake Peavy? Byrd is not an answer in my opinion. V-tek should be a backup catcher at this point. Timlin has to go. Aardsma might be okay for the bullpen. I still have a question mark at SS. If Lowell and Drew are 100% healthy next year we should be okay, but adding Texiera in some capacity would be good.

Peavy has a full no trade clause, and I think he's stated he really wants to stay in the NL. He's a hell of a talent, but, don't expect him in the AL next year.

    How about C.C.?

I expect the Brewers to push hard on him ... and if that doesn't get him signed, expect the Yankees to far overpay.

I think I remember him saying he'd like to pitch in California, as he's from the state (maybe L.A.?).

Well I'm a hardcore, and completely agree. Everyone was hurt in some capacity. Who knows, if Drew was 100% healthy (I don't think he was) with the bases loaded things may have been different, but that's not to shortchange Price or the Rays staff. Their pitching really is very good. If they get one more slugger (Texiera?) they may be incredible.

I said this before... "WE NEED MORE PITCHING"!!!!!!!

I never understood why they got rid of Arroyo or Orlando Cabrera SS.

Theo has his flaws. He wanted Renteria, who knows why? I liked Orlando, too but his bat has slowed. Bronson, dollar for dollar was a good move and we moved him for Wily Mo....wrong Pena, Theo! Should've got Carlos back!!! And too bad we couldn't hold onto Hanley and moved Clay Buchholtz in the Florida deal for Lowell/Beckett. That would've helped a lot.

I would go after Dempster. Probably won't be as much as C.C., Sheets, Lowe, Burnett, etc. and he has a high K/BB ratio and a high GB/FB ration which are things the Sox look for in pitchers.

True! What was he thinking when they signed Colon  and why didn't Schilling have the surgery in off season? He never even played all year, but I think it kind of hurt us without Lowell in the past month or so. He played while he was in so much pain..

As for Schilling, he came through with his promise when he signed on with the team. We did not only get 1 World Series, but 2...

Colon was a million dollar insurance plan. He went 4-2 with a 3.92 era in 7 starts. Considering how little he cost, it was worth taking the flier on him. He was never brought in to be a part of the rotation fulltime unless a disaster hit.

Yeah, dollar for dollar it was worth the investment since he won a CY Young award recently, but what was the story that he took his ball and went home, so to speak.

The Sox asked him in September to try working out of the bullpen because that's what they deemed him as most valuable to them down the stretch since he couldn't go deep into games but still had pretty good stuff. Well Colon didn't take kindly to the request and left the team.

I never said Colon was a good guy, but the production they got out of him for 1 mil is not too bad considering they paid Clement like 12 mil in 07 and never got a start and Schilling 8 this year and never got a start either.

Clement was like our Pavano..sorta but cheaper. Not sure I'd want Lowe in 09 but he is a ground ball pitcher. AJ is a lefty...that might be the way to go but Yanks may go that way too.

who is the Toronto pitcher that's lefty...is it BJ Ryan? He's a pen guy tho, thought they had a lefty starter? Doc is a righty, no?
