I was at my cousins friends house earlier and I had 5 beers and two shots, Im 19.

So I was driving home, completely ignore a flashing red light while a cop happens to be passing me. FUCK. So I get pulled over. He asks me for my license/registration. Done. He then asks me how much I had to drink (greeaat) I tell him 2 beers. I had to be honest...sort of. He tells me to recite the alphabet and coutdown from 100-76(odd). I do it fine, he then goes back to his car and comes back saying "Im going to assume you had those beers under adult supervision and since you are 20 (even though im 19) I am just going to assume you were being careless. I hope you learned from this, Im going to give you a failure to yield."

This is the second time I got let off for drinking/driving underage. And for the record I WAS fine, and I always drive home ok to drive. Why did I run a flashing red? I was blasting My Morning Jacket, too into the music.

Somehow I still feel like crap though, my dads kinda pissed even though I only told him about the failure to yield. I get let off basically, shouldn't I be glad?

hell yea you should be glad....you should be glad you didn't hurt anybody. then again, none of us know whether or not you were fine to drive home, maybe you were.

when i go over to my brothers house to drink and socialize, i get there early, get my drink on, and stop usually around 11pm. then i sit around for anywhere between 1-3 hours, eat some food, and by then i am usually fine. if i have any doubts then i am staying the night.

something you should consider is the volume of your music...i always used to blast my music as well, now i feel old. 3 times in the last month or so i didn't here an ambulance coming down the road...one time i almost got smoked. it's no joke.

take it easy out there. seems when you're young you think you can do anything and you feel fine about it.

    Esther's here and she's sick?

hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks
  • I started drinking at 8:30 and left the house at 1 am. I stopped drinking at around 12. By the time I drove I probably had like 2 beers left in me. I was FINE. I dont think a cop would just let me go if he didn't know I was fine. You guys are acting like I was completely drunk and Im a piece of shit for doing it. Im sure none of you guys ever drink or drive home buzzed

Lucky I didnt kill someone? give me a break.
Yes: you're in a position to get self-righteous.

what did you expect people to say? why tell us about it, and ask if you should " feel gald" about it if you dont want to hear what people have to say.

its this attitude that in this post right here that shows your immaturity.

you have people telling you, that no matter how "fine" you felt. you really should not have been driving.

but your 19, so of course you know better than anyone else.

have fun in jail next time.
    Peace, Love.

sure, if thats what you call it. Considering none of you know me and are making me out to look like a drunk behind the wheel who doesn't know what hes doing then yes. If you think running the flashing red was proof that I was drunk then your wrong. I've driven home from there many times, there are usually no cars. when I saw the cop car (didnt even realize it wa a cop until I passed it), i slowed down to like a 5 mph roll about 15 feet ahead of the stop marker. The intersection is very wierd, so 15 feet ahead isnt in the way of oncoming or passing cars. I just did something a little careless. I didnt legitamately blow past the yield sign. I was just trying to tell a story quickly without getting too detailed. Think what you want I really don't care. I was fine.

Last time I was exposed to alcohol education, I think the stat was 6 hours for booze to leave your system. If that is true, then even if something happened that wasn't your fault, you would have failed a breathalyzer, and you'd be up the creek.
Even if you're fine the potential consequences aren't worth it. And 9 times out of 10 when you think you're fine, you aren't. Obviously you aren't hammered, but you are impaired to some degree nonetheless.

    I was fine.

Let's see; 5 beers and two shots in 4,5 hours. An average person would still have a too high concentration of alcohol in his blood.

Most drivers on the road are shit anyway, it's dangerous enough if everyone is sober without people like you claiming you know how to handle it. Quit acting like we are being self-righteous and accept that you acted like an idiot and if you HAD crashed and killed someone, who would listen to your protestations?

The cop let you go because he was too lazy to do his job properly. He should have breathalised you the moment you admit to drinking a single drop, regardless of whether he thought you were fine to drive or not.

I don't feel like arguing because this is getting pretty lame.

Listen, Obviously I wouldnt post this if I didnt want people telling me the right thing. But if some of you are going to criticize me and call me an idiot or say "have fun in jail buddy" Then OF COURSE Im going to get pretty irritated. If you tell me I was wrong in a nice way, like the person above me did, then I will appreciate it. Dont act all high and mighty like your my mother. Im 19, (going to be 20 in less than 2 months) this is what kids my age do.

Funny thing is, is that the night before I was blazing with my friends and before we even smoked, there were cops all over his block, and one cop high beamed me because he wanted to pass me. It turns out it was most likely something completely unrelated to us having weed. That spooked me out.

So last night, I had the chance to smoke again, I denied it. Only because of what happened last night. Im glad I denied it, because if I got pulled over high and buzzed, then I sureley would've been arrested. Also, my cousin asked me if I wanted more to drink at around 12 and I told him "nah Im good, are we even gonna be here much late anyway?" Im not immature... I learn from my mistakes pretty well. This was just one of those "there just happened to be a cop out of nowhere" things.

Drinking at my age is common, you can't deny that. I like to have fun. I play it safe nearly all of the time. My friends street race all the time, I rarely do that. I learn from my friends mistakes before it happens to me. But at the same time I don't like playing it safe too much. You gotta have fun and experience things at the same time. I think I do a good job of balancing out the two

agree or disagree with me, I dont mind. Just don't be rude. Im a nice guy

No one's denying you're a nice guy, that doesn't matter. We don't know you, you could be my best friend and I'd still tell you that you acted like a fool and you're acting like a fool by justifying it. Good people do dumb things. This was a dumb thing. Whether you think you were good to drive or not is irrelevant. If some driver near you who was naturally shitty and shouldn't have been on the road started driving badly, can you honestly say you'd have had the wits and reactions to keep yourself safe after 5 pints and 2 shots? The roads are dangerous enough without people driving around them intoxicated, however much they think they have their shit together. I know 4 people who've died in car crashes aged 19 in the last year and a half, in two different crashes. You're a young guy, why do you want to risk that just so you can get home a few hours earlier?

You lucked out. You must have done something REALLY great for someone in past years, that karma came back for in a good way. It is a good opportunity, in any case to learn, and NEVER do it again.

I understand. Whats funny is I really dont like leaving early. I dont have a curfew. Usually when I drive home from drinking its around 2 am to even 4 am. I had to leave early because the dude who lived there past out at 12, we atleast stayed there an hour later.

Ok im out, going to a car show. no drinks tonight :D

did you read my posts? i said it, i fucked up and got a DUI and went to jail for 15 days back in 1998. i had LESS to drink than you did. i felt "fine". the point being, i blew over the limit on the test.
but you are acting as if you did nothing wrong.
you would have went to jail if he gave you a breathalyzer. plain and simple.

i had 5 beers over 4 hours when i got nailed. 9 times out of 10 i can pass a field sobriety test even after killing 12 beers in say 2 hours. but you cant beat the breath test.
thats why i said have fun in jail next time. you got really really lucky on many different levels.

when it comes down to it, you broke the law.
    Peace, Love.

It appears to me it's more to do about your attitude towards this matter in judging yourself as fine. Well, if you were so FINE why even bother to post ANY concerns here about your drinking on this particular occasion?

I've had my occasion when I was young of having too much to drink, luckly no incidents or having to be pulled over. HOWEVER, now I have a limit of ONE drink or NONE, if anymore my lady drives period or I stay put.

So since you believe you were fine then please continue to drive like this cause the only way you appear you'll see the light is to hit the abyss of rock bottom completely. Good luck you'll neeed it.

First of all, worst reasoning ever. Don't hide behind your age. The fact that you know what you did was wrong, but are happy to excuse it is a reflection of your ignorance and arrogance. Not of your age.

Secondly, when you get behind the wheel impaired, you're putting other people's lives at risk. That disqualifies you from "nice guy" running.
