a 19 year old driving a Porsche? ...sounds like a lot of people have it worse than you do
I guess my point is that even on ONE drink, your body just relaxes and you lose the sharpness that you would have sober. Even if you're not at fault for an accident, you could just get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. That could be another car that you dont notice hitting you, or getting hit when going round a bend , or running a red light.
It's incredibly easy to fuck everything up for yourself by doing it. Im 23, not much older than you. I did bad things on booze too, but I would never tolerate anyone saying drink driving was ok, regardless of how many people do it. Funny thing is the only people i knew who did that were my age are now dead.
They were nice guys too you know.
My car was $7500 and is a 1989. Im not a rich kid exactly. I only brought up the car I drive to prove a point that Im a car guy. I hate telling people what car I drive. Bragging is lame.
Anyway. My friend actually drove home drunk a few months back and slammed into a parked car about 300 ft from his own house. It was about a 3 block drive from my other friends house. Luckily the owner of the car didnt care (WTF) and he got points dropped. He was driving home drunk. I have never drove home drunk before. I know the same shit could happen, but when I drive home from drinking Im always either just buzzed or basically sober. (feel completely sober but probably still have the tiniest bit left in my blood)

Thing is there've been nights when as far as I was concerned I was completely sober... but other people told me I was hammered . We're not always able to judge our own sobriety

I know I sound like a total old grump, but it's just a bad idea to drive after having that much alcohol, man (even if it was over a long period of time). If you like cars, you don't wanna lose your license to drive em...that right there should be enough reason not to drive drunk and risk gettin' a DUI or crashing yer 944 (which is a tasty ride btw).
And now I'm gonna sound REALLY old and grumpin', but street racing is for idiots, dewd. Get some friends who can introduce you to somethin' that's constructive and good for ya.
I know street racing is dumb. You have no idea how many times I denied people from racing me. They tell me "you have a porsche and you call yourself a car guy?" I usually tell them I also play the drums, which is a much bigger passion in my life. I dont care about racing, but at the same time I do rip on my car by myself every once in awhile. If you own a car like that, you gotta enjoy it sometimes.

when they say that... just reply 'yep, I'm a car guy, I love cars, yep I have a porsche... I don't wanna fuckin ruin it... would YOU if you had a porsche?' and look down on them and walk off
The car racing thing makes me angry though... you've no idea how many young guys are killed in my home town (population approx. 1000) seems to be one or two every few months... from racing! I'm not gonna give out to ya cos that's not gonna help but please please stop being a boy racer. It's not cool to anyone only teenage boys.

Ive street raced 5 times and probably enjoyed 2 of them. Most of the time I race its complete peer pressure, that or Im driving with my friends to a place I dont know of, and then they start speeding, forcing me to speed.

And there we have it - the reality of this whole story. Call it feeling 'buzzed' or whatever you like, but that buzz comes from the fact that you have been drinking. Most people won't experience a 'buzz' from one drink, and here in the UK (and I'm sure it's probably the same in the US) you aren't allowed more than one standard drink if you are driving. Thus any 'buzz' is a clear indicator that you are still under the influence.
I can barely fathom the absolute selfishness of people who drink drive. What's wrong with people taking it in turns to drive, or getting a taxi?
at least you admit it's peer pressure though that's a start. You already have a porsche though, you'd be so much cooler though if you told them to fuck off and grow up

Sadly, I do. Well I get a real nice buzz from 2 beers. Im glad I do, less that I have to drink.
So if I drive home buzzed, its most likely cuz there is 2 beers left in me, not 3 or 4 or even more. If I drink, I always have about 5-7 beers max. after that I start feeling like shit. Im not one of those "I had 10 beers and im only buzzed!" idiots.
As someone said earlier you drunk about 12 units, finished drinking at midnight then it would be NOON! before your ok to drive. If you were truley fine to drive speak to whos given you the booze because your clearly getting the non-alcholic stuff. Of course you felt fine to drive you were drunk and a normal persons abillity to decide if there ok would be diminished.
I used to have a friend who always wanted to drive home after drinking and when i was there i was able to drag him away and we'd walk home. One time i left early coz i was feeling like shit he drove home crashed his car on a back road because a deer ran out. He knocked himself out and by the time he got up and walked home it was 6 hours later, the police were waiting at his house and he was just under the drink drive limit, that scared the shit out of him and he wouldn;t even have one drink and drive home.
be very very thankful because you have been given another chance to do things right. please don't let it get to the point where i was at, it had to happen till i learned. one of my old friends use to drink&drive all the time. he got caught and he learned, like me, THE HARD WAY.
i was a lot younger when i did that crazy shit and i'm just really grateful i got through it all. being young has it's disadvantages. if you were older you would have deserved much more wrath on here, but alas, young kids just don't KNOW shit....and yes that is a good generalization
learn from us...it's not all bad advice...no matter if you think we are cool or not

Thats fair enough about the car.
The others are right - my point is about how drunk you are, its that you cant judge how drunk you are.
I've never driven my car when ive had a single drink. I love cars too, and would love to be able to have your beaut...but i just have a rule that if im going to drink ANYTHING at all, i leave my car at home. Just take a taxi or a bus, and then u can party however u like.
Many people here fail breath-tests in the mornings, when they are clearly either sober or hungover, but not drunk. Its very easy to fail a breath test the following morning, hours after drinking. - So its very easy to fail one the night of drinking!! Im rarely under the limit when i think i am. Regardless of how sober you feel, the alcohol level in your system can be quite high.
The Irish parliament are considering passing a 0.00% limit for alcohol in drivers. Theyre right too in my view. Have you ever used the breathtesters that some bars have? (well, here they do anyway). Try one, who knows what itll tell you.
The cops wont give a shit if you feel fine, if there's over the legal limit in your system - which u have NO WAY of knowing - then your in trouble.
Sadly, I do. Well I get a real nice buzz from 2 beers. Im glad I do, less that I have to drink.

And two beers is over the limit. You have no excuse, or logical reasoning. It is wrong - dress it up however you want, but your actions are illegal, selfish and may result in you killing or seriously injuring either yourself or other people.

Who knows. I cant say I wont, Im not a fortune teller. If I told you no, then thats just the easy way out of your question.
I still have a little more then a year before Im 21. I know for now Im not even going to drink for a bit. That killed it for me. I know for a fact that for an entire year there is no way I won't touch alcohol. If I say I won't, thats just ridiculous. I will be more careful though. Since 2 beers gets me buzzed, maybe Ill just have 2, maybe 3. If I drink at around 9ish and leave the earliest of 12 then thats alot better. But anytime I drink I usually come home past atleast 1 am. Figure 3 beers max, hanging out from 9-1am which is 4 hours.

Now I KNOW you haven't listened to a single word anyone has said to you....
Drink, if you want. Get smashed out of your face. Thats not the issue here. The driving is.....and you'll do it anyway. When you get caught (and you will) I hope it's before you hurt someone, including yourself.

At 3 beers, you won't be thinking this rationally.

1. While I certianly agree that what the OP did was irresponsible, I also hope that all of us who are so concerned with drinking and driving are taking steps locally to help people keep from doing it. E.g., encourage your city council to have the buses run late downtown on the weekend, to initiate a safe ride program, to allow bars to stay open later but not continue to serve alcohol, to have breathalizers available in bars, etc.
In my city, at least, I think the authorities are taking more of an "us against them" attitude, which just makes people not want to get caught. But I think, as a public health measure, it might be more beneficial to also give people tools to help them not end up in that situation. (I don't want this to become a conversation about personal responsibility, please. If we care about our communities we should do whatever it takes to decrease drinking and driving, whether it's our responsibility or not.)
To the OP:
2. I believe that my state has laws that say if someone leaves your house while under the influence of alcohol they consumed there and they get in a wreck, the homeowner is also held responsible for whatever damage, injury, or death occurs. I'm not sure whethre or not your state has the same law, but it's something to consider.
3. I'm pretty sure you can buy personal breathalizers now. It would probably be a good investment, especially since it's what you blow that counts, not how you feel.
4. If you do continue to drink and drive, or to street race, please remove any paraphernalia from your car that could associate you with Pearl Jam or their fans.
What is so hard about just not getting in the fucking car? No one is saying don't drink, we're saying DON'T DRIVE. How selfish can you be?
there has been a few times where I havent drove, theres been times where I slept over my friends. If im completely shit faced I just stay over the house. Unfortunately me and my freinds never plan things out and always make things last minute. If we drink its, Come to X's house and chip in. Its never "were drinking tomorrow, ill drive this time".
Next time I drink Ill honestly ask one of my friends to drive me. But Im going to be honest, My friends are also my age, and they are most likely going to drink anyway. They just drink less. So I really don't see the point. The one friend that is 21 lives at the house we drink in. Maybe Ill just ask him to drive me, or Ill just stay over.
I have a friend who is my age that threw parties in his house all the time and his parents owned him. He hardly drinks now and the last time he did, he got a ride home. I guess I gotta act more like him now.
Thanks for being assholes to me everyone (seriously), I think I got it now, only took 8 pages! lol
I like how people are pretending it's a formula one race instead of just regular average every day road driving, and death of all sorts could come at any moment just by blinking with a couple drinks.
To each his own skill set I suppose.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

He knocked himself out and by the time he got up and walked home it was 6 hours later, the police were waiting at his house and he was just under the drink drive limit, that scared the shit out of him and he wouldn;t even have one drink and drive home.

be very very thankful because you have been given another chance to do things right. please don't let it get to the point where i was at, it had to happen till i learned. one of my old friends use to drink&drive all the time. he got caught and he learned, like me, THE HARD WAY.
i was a lot younger when i did that crazy shit and i'm just really grateful i got through it all. being young has it's disadvantages. if you were older you would have deserved much more wrath on here, but alas, young kids just don't KNOW shit....and yes that is a good generalization
learn from us...it's not all bad advice...no matter if you think we are cool or not
Celebration, the ball's in play
Take care.
And two beers is over the limit. You have no excuse, or logical reasoning. It is wrong - dress it up however you want, but your actions are illegal, selfish and may result in you killing or seriously injuring either yourself or other people.
im not dressing anything up. Of course if I get pulled over It will still be in me. I said this already. I wouldnt make this thread and reply back about 20 times if I didn't care. God im so fed up with this.

So will you drink drive again?

Drink, if you want. Get smashed out of your face. Thats not the issue here. The driving is.....and you'll do it anyway. When you get caught (and you will) I hope it's before you hurt someone, including yourself.

Drink ALL you want just don't get behind the wheel, it appears you're a thrillseeker and you'll find out things the hard way. My friend like McCain would say Once again good luck you're gonna need it going down this path.

Do none of your friends drive? Can't you take it in turns or get a taxi, or stay over?
4. If you do continue to drink and drive, or to street race, please remove any paraphernalia from your car that could associate you with Pearl Jam or their fans.
there has been a few times where I havent drove, theres been times where I slept over my friends.
Thanks for being assholes to me everyone (seriously), I think I got it now, only took 8 pages! lol
