is this "third party" or "friend" the same person that was telling the media that a-rod wanted to play for the red sox a week or two ago because he's buddies with manny and ortiz? there will always be an "apparently" type of rumor, but unless i see a hard quote from a-rod that says "i want to sign a contract with the yankees for 2008 and beyond" then you have to take it all with a grain of salt.
i mean, there is NO WAY that a-rod negotiates with the yanks brass without boras. never, never, never, never going to happen. boras is his agent to squeeze the last cent out and then try for more.0 -
I hope he does re-sign with the yanks though. It takes the Yanks out of the Lowell seepstakes, keeps Arod out of Boston, he still hasnt done anything of merit in the playoffs, and there's no more subsidy from the Rangers meaning the yanks are on the hook for all of it.9/7/98, 8/3/00, 9/4/00, 4/15/03, 7/1/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 5/24/06, 5/25/06, 6/17/08, 6/22/08, 6/28/08, 6/30/08, 5/17/10, 10/15/13, 10/16/13.0

it appears you are wrong
the yanks wont negotiate with boras and have apparently stipulated that0 -

the yanks will have to deal and/or negotiate with boras in one way, shape or form. boras will not simply take no for an answer and set aside or else he'll lose credibility.0 -

A-rod can fire him and that would be the end of the story
Perhaps A-rod has finally learned that he will never be popular with the fans in any city or win a world series when he is getting paid that kind of money
kudos to the yanks for sticking to their guns
what a great story this would be if Boras gets fired and A-rod resigns with the yanks for a lot less money0 -

1. a-rod will not fire boras.
2. a-rod wants to win a world series, he's just too dumb or blind to realize that it takes a T-E-A-M to win one and not just one highly overpaid superstar.
3. how, in any loose definition of "sticking to their guns" did the yankees stick to their guns? they said they would not re-sign a-rod if he opted out, yet they want to talk deal with him.
4. a-rod firing boras would be hilarious, but how is signing for an average of $27.5mil/year 'less money' when the yanks were paying him around $15-16mil/year thanks to the money the rangers were paying? by my calculations, $27.5mil is more than $22mil. so where the pay cut?0 -

Really why do you say that? Boras has created a PR disaster. I can only imagine what the average new yorker has to say to Arod's face. If they are getting no bites then opting out was VERY BAD decision-one promulgated by Boras-that would be grounds for termination. The yanks did a great job of tuning the opt out around and it looks like there is some serious backlash to Boras' greediness. Maybe the owners collectively agreed to no longer deal with Boras' extortion techniques. There is a lot more to this than either you or I know.
sticking to their guns>>>>>refusing to negotiate with Boras
less money>>>> i simply said it would be a great story IF he signed for less money than he already had guaranteed- not that the rumors were for less0 -

i totally agree that there is more to this than you or i will ever know unless a tell-all book comes out. and i totally agree that a-rod and boras opting out before the world series was even over was step one of a PR disaster. i hate boras, but you have to admit he is very smart and there is a reason for everything he does, so there has to be some slight truth to the $350mil number floating around. boras knows that he can't try and drive the price up that much if he doesn't have the yanks and their deep pockets involved.
ok, there's going to be a lot of math here.
before a-rod opted out...
the rumor was that the yanks were offering 5 years at $125-150mil.
a-rod had 3 years at $81/mil left on his contract.
for those 3 years, the rangers were giving the yanks $7mil/year or $21/mil total.
the yankees would be paying a-rod $20mil/year.
had the yankees and a-rod agreed to a 5 year, $125mil extension, they would have paid him $185mil for 8 years.
had the yankees and a-rod agreed to a 5 year, $150mil extension, they would have paid him $210 for 8 years.
so how is 10 years at a rumored $275mil less money? even at the high end rumor price ($210mil) that would put years 9 and 10 at an average salary of $32.5mil.0 -

what about damon? what about mussina?
and just assuming that hughes, joba and kennedy will be anything more than average in a full year of starting is a HUGE assumption.
and rivera and then ??? is not good, especially when all the yanks have signed for next year is farnsworth and, um, er...0 -

mike and the dog just read a formal announcement from NYY
basically ARod contacted NYY thru a 3rd party .
Talks are ongoing.
NYY were asked if Boras was involved, they said " No Comment " .
no $ or time window have been solidified, alltho it does look like hes coming back.
i cant help thinking this was all a master plan from the beginning- publicity stunt. For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside

MyHandsBound wrote:do you think its a done deal.....maybe perhaps he'd change his mind and re-sign with them.....
Nothing is ever a done deal with this kind of thing. After reading and hearing what I have today, I may have to take that statement back. That is why I HATE agents. I think each player should negotiate there own freaking deal. I know that isnt possible, but it has just gotten out of hand. Boras sets a price, and the $ankees say "See Ya". So Boras contact all of these other clubs and realizes he is asking too much, and A-Rod gets mad and starts to do the deal on his own. I can just hear him now.
" Hola Mr. Hank...UMMM I ALWAYS wanted to stay, but my agent said you werent interested in me. Here is what I am willing to play for..."
Even if he did take $275 or whatever the figure may be...It is still too much for ANYONE ANYTIME ANYWHERE imho.Never, ever, flipping forget

My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-120 -
I was really starting to look forward to not having him around next year.
The fact that Seattle and Texas both improved dramatically the year after he left.
The 2 draft picks the Yankees would have got from whatever team he signed with.
The fact that the circus would have left town.
The fact that they told him: opt out and it's over. Nevermind that he came back hat in hand, groveling, fact is they said they wouldn't negotiate, and now they're negotiating.
The only way I'm okay with this is if they sign him for significantly less than they offered him 3 weeks ago. The rumor was they offered him $140 million on top of the $81 mil he was owed, or $231 million over 8 years. So if they sign him for $180 Million over 8 years, I'm kind of okay with it. If the rumored 10 yr/$270 mil is accurate, then I'm disappointed in Cashman and the Steinbrothers0 -
those players must be bringing something to mlb in order to get that kind of money....
does anyone know what that is and how much its value is?0 -
apparently rivera wants a 4 year deal from the yanks.
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7450914
i am just keeping my fingers crossed that the steinbrothers are dumb enough to do that.0
