The 2008 New York Yankees

The next few weeks will be pretty interesting. if Hank indeed does overrule Cashman, and do something stupid (Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps stupid) than that will be the end for Brian Cashman, whose contract is up at the end of the year. he's not perfect, and not the best GM in the game, (just look at his pitching acquisitions, right up to Kei Igawa) but he's pretty good, has a long term plan in place. I wonder who would replace him. Hank's probably like his Dad, and would go for the over the hill, overrated, big name guy.
Part of me says it doesn't come down to that. Tonight starts a run, a 20-5 type of run. The other part of me says that nothing will change until Damon and Giambi are a $37 million pinch hitting duo, and Brett Gardner is leading off and playing left field0 -
I'd take Steve Balboni over Giambi.0

There goes Jeter ruining A-Rod's return. Man we're down again.I miss igotid880

I'm sure that'll happen if the Yankees take the lead.I miss igotid880 -

i don't like jeter staring over at cano for the rest of the inning like it was his fault. yeah, he didn't cover the bag, but you have to complete that throw to first.
He's been throwing wide to first alot this year.I miss igotid880 -

3 posts in 3 minutes. Yup, no inferiority complex there.0

honestly-this is the Yankees thread, you don't see any of us sneaking into your Red Sox thread going 'hee hee y'all still suck' or something like that. Either contribute something to the discussion of our team or move along, please. Thank you.
But for the record,
gosh doggit we really do suck right now
I think A-rod's return jinxed the team.
it was just ugly all the way around. How bizarre would it be if it was like an all Florida team WS this year? Tampa Bay and the Marlins are both in 1st place.
Oy.

Well if Jeter knew how to throw to first. Maybe none of this happens. At least the x-rays were negative. So that's good news.I miss igotid880 -

myhook wrote:I think the jinx started when A-Rod joined the Yanks a few seasons ago. Obviously he is one of the best players to ever play the game but in his 12 full seasons (not counting the few games he played in 94 / 95 and this season) his teams have gone 1024 - 918. That is an average of 85 wins a year. I just find that very strange how the teams that the best player in baseball plays on is only 8 games over .500 on average. Plus the Yanks will have more and more money going to him every year for the next 10 years as his skills eventually wind down. Hence Giambi this season.
take those Texas years off and I'm sure it's better. And you can't compare him with Giambi.I miss igotid880 -

And the starting pitching hasn't been great lately. Usually it's the hitting or the pitching. Now it's both. Hopefully the pendulum swings our way soon.I miss igotid880
