i dont want santana if we have to give up elsbury for him. yes, santana is one of the best pitchers in the game, but the sox rotation did fine without him last year, and elsbury has the makings of a superstar.
I agree with this, if the Sox have to give up Els Santana is not worth it.

let's not get carried away here. The only good trade the Sox have made in the past few years was while Theo was ina gorilla suit following PJ around the world. How much did the Wonderboy pay Gagne this year? About $7 mil for 2 months of sucking?0

The Francona Rule as reported by the Boston Herald
Red Sox manager Terry Francona officially has a rule named after him.
“There’s going to be, for lack of a better term, a ‘Francona Rule,’” said Bob Watson, Major League Baseball’s Vice President of Rules and On-Field Operations. “You can only wear your uniform top or jacket. You can’t wear your night-shirt, or whatever it is. You can wear it before games, or after games, but not during games. You have to have your uniform top at all times.”
No more pullover for Francona.
When asked if teams had been notified of the development Watson said, “They will be informed. There will be no doubt.”- Busted down the pretext

While I don't wanna see Ellsbury go, if you can get Santana, you have to do it.
Imagine a rotation of Beckett, Santana, Matsuzaka, Buccholz (assuming they trade Ellsbury and keep him) and insert your 5th starter(Schilling in '08, whoever beyond) for the next 6 years, with Papelbon at the back of the bullpen. You're gonna be the favorite to win the WS every year for a 5 or 6 year stretch. This weekend we rock Portland0 -

While Hank Steinbrenner set deadlines and publicly lusted after Johan Santana, the Red Sox just bided their time and stayed in the game.
And what do you know? As Monday night turned into Tuesday morning at the winter meetings, suddenly it was the Red Sox who loomed as the favorites to pull off a deal for the best pitcher in baseball.
ESPN the Magazine's Buster Olney reported early Tuesday that the Twins asked the Red Sox for permission to review the medical records of pitcher Jon Lester, amid indications a Red Sox-Twins trade could go down sometime during the early-morning hours.
If the Twins were satisfied with Lester's medicals, it's believed they would accept a swap of him, Coco Crisp, shortstop prospect Jed Lowrie and either highly regarded pitching prospect Justin Masterson or another player.0 -

I really like the sound of this deal. Lester may never be the same guy and we don't have to deal Ellsbury. While I think Ellsbury may be at or near his peak already (he is 24), he is still a very fast guy who plays great defense and hits very well. Sure there's not much power, but he's an upgrade in the batter's box over Coco. I've seen comparisons to George Brett who had similar talents. I'll take that anyday.I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0 -
