C'mon, which is it?"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -

lmao!!
My friend, who I mentioned in an earlier post is married to a pentecostal preacher that she met at church camp was always SOOOO different after coming back from camp. It was honestly hard to be around her at first...and then after a few weeks, she'd fall back into her normal, slightly less judgmental and sheltered version of herself, lol.0 -

Look. It's not as though he said this to his friend. He's venting, and there is nothing wrong with that. Furthermore, none of us has any first hand experience with long red's friend and how he/she is dealing with his/her new hobby. For all you know, his friend is being "rude as shit" and isn't interested in respecting long red's way of life.0 -

I found God a long time ago. But I happen to think that He doesn't like to be used as a crutch or a name dropping thing or as a reason that "I am so better than you...".
those who really find God do not need to do that. honestly.Baby, You Wouldn't Last a Minute on The Creek......

I'm all for live and let live. Just don't send me one of those thick birthday cards that has 15 pages from the bible in it and no money!:D0

I'm not a firm believer in "God", but what if there is one?
After punching him in the throat, who would look like the jack ass..
I think if there is a "god" we are all part of it. Our intuition is all connected to something our simple minds can't even grasp.
Maybe by "finding god" he really means he found himself..0 -
Well red, I don't know about punching them in the throat, but I often have the desire to scream. However I don't think I'd say it's just when a friend finds God because I've had friends find God and they've been perfectly reasonable about it, in other words they've discovered something that's very important to them and it's only enhanced their true nature not turned them into an evangelical.
So I'll qualify and say I struggle mightily when friends have an epiphany of any kind and feel the need to rant on endlessly at me about their new found "thing". A few experiences come to mind.
A friend became seriously ill, they latched on to a microbiotic diet to try to heal themselves. That's great and I understand you'd freak out and be fearful in those circumstances, desperately trying anything, but I don't need the lectures. Or for it to be a constant source of conversation between us simply because they couldn't discuss their illness. I sure as hell don't need to be nagged at that I need to join them otherwise I'll suffer dire consequences.
The other example that springs to mind is when friends have been approached by direct marketing schemes and they're suckered in.
Amway, Herbalife, that kind of thing. Actually now that you mention it, when I've lost friends to the dark side like that I've had an overwhelming urge to punch them in the throat.NOPE!!!

i believe in God too and i'll admit when i first "found God" i was a bit overzealous, but i needed to be about some things. i had a hard life and for me it was like cleaning and weeding out all the bad things. and i know that without God in my life, i would've killed myself. everyone needs something to believe in at one time or another. i really truly felt and feel "saved" because i know i wouldn't be here without it. that's what people mean when they use that word. something changed their perspective about life and they feel like they've really found something. their belief in God saved them! like i said, some get overzealous but a lot of times they mellow out over time.No need to be void, or save up on life...
You got to spend it all0 -
It's more than likely that he didn't actually find god, but instead found the need to find him. That's generally the case with most people who "find" god. They just become so desperate for everything to make sense with a simple answer that they just give up on truth and instead embrace fantasy.
One might say live and let live, but if you truly are his friend and sincerely care for his well-being, you have an obligation to do everything in your power to ensure that he reliquinshes his desire for spirituality before it's too late -before he loses any hope of understanding life on life's terms rather than through the twisted lens of religion's terms.0 -
