pudge rodriguez is heading to the bronx in exchange for farnsworth.

Not to be a hater (really), but it just kills me when I hear stuff like "future HOFer Pudge Rodriguez." Yes he should be in, but why do some guys get a free pass on steroids while others don't? Hypocritical, at best.

I'm just thankful that Farnsworth has pitched so well over the last month and brought his trade value up. Seriously, if you told any Yankee fan a couple of months ago that you could get I-Rod straight up for Farnsworth they would have said you were freakin' nuts. While he isn't the hitter he once was, he still hits arond .280 to .300 and that's a nice upgrade from Molina. Now we have 2 of the best defensive catchers in baseball. It'll be interesting to see who catches Moose. He's been pretty picky about his catchers in the past and with the way he's pitched this year, they may keep him and Molina together.

I wonder if the Yanks aren't hedging their bets a little with Posada's injury too. There is the possibility that he never catches full time again. Would they consider making him the 1B next season? Giambi is a free agent isn't he? How many years is the option on I-Rod's contract? If they don't pick up the option, they should get a draft pick from the team that signs him.

but there is no doubt the hole got bigger in the bullpen. who is going to take his spot??? marte? i thought his role was strictly our left handed specalist.

    Pudge!
Hard to argue with that one,
but the emphasis continues to be on hitting vs shoring up the pitching staff, imo.
but it's good we got him ahead of this big Angels series! Woo hoo!

let's just hope it doesn't take him 4 days to be productive.

Yea didn't see that coming at all. Just when farnsworth is starting to kick ass.
Girardi and Farnsworth were very choked up about the trade after the game today

so he has a hot month. big whoop. overall, he's stunk it up. what was the stat i saw back in may or june.....something to the effect that farnsworth was giving up a HR every 8th batter. granted, july was different...but with his history, i'm sure he would have reverted back to his old ways.

i wish him nothing but good luck with the tigers, unless he's facing the yanks. i'm just glad he's finally gone. i've been wishing for this for the longest time.

no big surprise girardi was upset. he seemed to have a hard-on for farnsworth.

it sounds like bruney might be activated soon. from yesterday:

    http://emedia.thetimes-tribune.com/Blogs/SWBYankeesBlog/tabid/552/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/4106/Yankees-at-Syracuse-July-29.aspx
Bruney, by the way, has hit 95 mph more than once on the stadium radar tonight. In fact, he just hit 95 on three straight pitches. That's harder than he's been throwing earlier in this rehab assignment, and apparently the Yankees wanted to see better velocity before they brought him back into the rotation. The down side is that he loaded the bases, but he ended the inning on an outstanding changeup for a strikeout.
  • Cashman was able to get something for Hwkins, instead of just letting him walk. Nice job

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/07/30/yankees.astros.trade.ap/index.html

The 22-year-old Cusick was hitting .285 with nine home runs and 38 RBIs in 94 games for Class-A Lexington. The Astros selected him in the 10th round of the 2007 draft.

good move, cusick is a decent prospect plus cashman needs to start re-stocking the positional players in the system beyond the likes of austin jackson.

good move, nothing against molina but they needed another bat. i was never a farnsworth fan but the guy pitched well and if he continues to do so with detroit he could always come back since he's a free agent.

i also like the trade because nobody saw it coming, that's what makes it exciting as opposed to ongoing sagas such as jarrod washburn or manny ramirez rumors.

his numbers are down, but it's a rental since they likely won't re-sign him with posada coming back next season.

would it depend on how long it takes Posada to recover?

Is he worth the money, or worth trading Farnsworth? Do we need another starter or are we good with what we have now?

The only thing is his reputation of not wanting to go to the pitcher's meetings. And Posada might not be able to catch for very long. John Flaherty said he had the same surgery and it took him a couple of years to get back to where he was. And Posada's 36 or 37.
