I dunno, I kind of like Chris Rock's solution:

"No, I think we need some bullet control. I think every bullet should cost five thousand dollars. Five thousand dollars for a bullet. Know why? Cos if a bullet cost five thousand dollars, there'd be no more innocent by-standers...."

I've been hunting and trapping for 12 years and we've always made our own ammo since before then. I guess they'll need to regulate black powder and metal after they up the cost of ammo.

do you think that will make a difference? If someone is mad enough they will do whatever they can to be heard.

Oh, I totally agree. And sometimes events like this fuck with our perceptions a little. The truth is some people are just fucked up. I've been fucked up and depressed before.............I'm sure most of us have been. But sometimes, there's a person that gets a little more fucked up and does something stupid. Every time something like this happens, the main objective is "finding the warning signs"..............And most of the time you'll hear someone saying "they were outcasts" or "they had trouble at home" or "they found out their significant other was fucking a student". You rarely hear of someone going in and doing something like this just because they have a gun and want to shoot people up. With a population as culturally diverse as the US, things will happen from time to time. Can we be better prepared for handling these events and keep them from getting out of control? Well, that's a good start.

But is there something inherent in the U.S education system which is responsible for this stuff happening so often? How bad is the pressure at U.S schools? What effect does the exaggerated cliquiness have on students, e.t.c, e.t.c?

While being the most heavily armed country in the entire world, Switzerland's crime rate is lower than England (and Wales), United States, Australia, Canada, Netherlands, Scotland, and Sweden.

"Approximately 300 deaths per year involve the use of Swiss army guns, mostly suicides and family murders."

does anyone know what the police did to contain/stop the killings? Were all the students killed quickly or was the killer negotiating for a while?

The killer has been identified as a 23 year old South Korean. I wonder if he was ever subjected to abuse at college during these times of animosity towards anyone of middle Eastern, or Asian appearance?

That may very well be the case. And it could be the fact that many Americans are ignorant to cultural and ethnical differences. I remember my brother talking about touching one of his friend's (a South Korean) hair during a game or something. He said that he almost got punched in the face for doing that. Beyond that, though, ignorance is one thing...........intolerance is another. The less we are accepting of other cultures, the more hate there will be from both sides. I don't know if these things had anything to do with the Virginia shooting, all we do know is that it was hateful/selfish/desperate.............there's a number of things that can cause that.

It's not unknown or an implication after as a family we read his note.

I also don't see the correlation to evolution. Evolution involves growth or production. If you are talking about natural selection perhaps you are right.

You're damn right it's anger, anger at callous remarks as if suicide is something to joke about.

I often expand both sides of the argument to find the middle ground.

Someone who owns a room full of guns committing suicide with a gun to me is somewhat of a parody. On the other hand, if someone (non gun nut) gets their hands on a gun for a specific purpose, that is an absolute tragedy. I myself will never own a gun for that reason alone. My life is no field of roses, so I can't say 100% I wouldn't be tempted do the same at some point. Factor in alcohol, bad timing etc... It's something I never want to make myself available to.

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. That's a really a very shitty circumstance. Time will heal. In strength we move forward.

what ever happened to "do undo others as you would have them to unto you" . Sorry but even this debate is getting harsh. No wonder people are acting out against each other. People are way to harsh and quick to judge. There's going to be more shootings like this I am very sorry to say. North American society is F______ just watch the TV and look at the news. You have to be beautiful, you have to be fit, you have to be skinny, you have to be smart, you have to have nice clothes, you have to drive a nice car, you have to be rich, the standard family has gone. Two many single parents, etc, etc.....

If we don't start treating each other with more kindness the violence will not stop.
    Peace,

The vast majority of people are good. The world in general is good.

The media needs to stop painting a picture of hatred and misfortune like it's the meal of the day. It's defeating in purpose. They make money selling sensationalistic stories...so that's what they do. It's really all just tabloid mentality in varying degrees. Some people can only hear so much bad news and keep it together. Fear keeps consumers consuming. This is how our gov't is failing us miserably.

People will look back in time and say wow how stupid we were to put money and material possessions above all else. Some of the happiest people I've ever met are also some of the poorest.

the most ironic thing about this debate is it's distance from reality. nobody suggests a logical solution; they only throw personal opinions back and forth.
    americans will always have guns.
    1) every oath of office requires the oathee to swear to protect the constitution. failure to do so is an impeachable offence.
    2) should congress try to remove this right; armed americans will protect the constitution.
    3) as of 2005; 23 states issue conceiled weapons permits and an additional 11 agree to respect that permit in their jurisdiction. thus; passing of any legislation is impossible.
    4) the supreme court has always upheld the second ammendment and the right of a citizen to protect himself. this right includes the right to protect oneself against the government.

based on these facts; the only logical solution is education. if laws stopped crime; we'd be a crime free society.
  • The rich get richer....the poor drop out of school and sell drugs to make money or something like that.

It starts at the top. Greed.
