How many other carpenter's from this period of history are remembered today? Its impossible to agree on points such as claims to divinity and the like but he was obviously a person who was quite extraordinary.

    that is for sure....LOL. its actually quite interesting look at the case of his because it was beyond a joke. they tried him at night (illegal) and on the passover which they should have not done either. just a curious side note to this discussion.....

    that site is a joke......christian or not the vast majority of scholars agree that jesus was a real person. to even doubt this is beyond a joke.....

    As regards the title of this thread:

    Christianity is most definitely not a hoax, as I have witnessed it close-up, first-hand on a number of occasions. If it is it is a most elaborate hoax. I believe christianity exists, and is indeed a religion.

    Now questioning the foundation and/or practice and beliefs if said religion is something else entirely.

    I never said Christianity was a joke. I just asked a question. I was simply asking for some historical analysis. The total absence of any in response merely proves the point. I think the same can be said of the stories of the old testament and perhaps the Quran. There are those in all religions who take the stories of their respective books and assume their content as truth simply be because it was beaten into their heads since they were chidren.

    In all faiths there are reformers and realists and there are fundamentalists. The fundamentalists, I believe, are the ones who refuse to reform and who refuse to modernize. Whether the stories in the respective books are fact or fiction will never be proven absolutlely. And actually, if you get right down to it there is probably more of a chance the Quran is accurate due to its proximity in time.

    But to call Judaism and Islam more or less of a joke as compared to any other is just plain ignortant. The issue is do we take the stories in our books as metaphor or myth or blindly accept them as truth and real history.

    I briefly thought of that possibility but that is too much of a stretch of plausiblity if there ever was one. A guy doesn't become the most famous man to ever walk the planet by sheer luck. Think of all the most famous people of the 20th century and none of them will ever compare to the fame this man Jesus achieved and the changes to societies (including the great Roman empire) that occured because of his influence. Once again this is not a debate about his divinity, just a retort to your quite bizarre claim that it was just dumb luck.

    If Mary was Jesus' mother, wouldn't taht make her the most important person, hence if she didn't exist, neither would have Jesus?


    My point is there is no one more important than another. We are all here together, our energy is shared, we are one......selfishness and greed divide us....
