I can't speak for all. But, 2 things bug me.
1) More often than not....the child molester or marraige cheater is a "religious person".
2) More often than not.... it's the religious people that are pro-war.onelongsong wrote:if you tell someone of religion that you are athiest; they feel sorry for you and maybe pray for you; which is an act of compassion to them.
Actually, I feel sorry for the religious people. Think of all the hours spent going to church during a lifetime.....only to find out there is no heaven.11-2-2000 Portland. 12-8-2002 Seattle. 4-18-2003 Nashville. 5-30-2003 Vancouver. 10-25-2003 Bridge School. 9-2-2005 Vancouver.

I don't care one bit when they bash me or religion.
and im saying you are a hypocrite for acting like you aren't doing the same to them every time you talk about how sorry you feel for them.0 -

The real root of the problem is that you people seem to be so close-minded, biased and prejudiced that you think all Christians are identical.

It's all the same thing. The friend who was getting married would get defensive as well.
precisely. becos the friend is very excited and happy about his decision. and then to have a stranger or close friend suddenly pissing on his parade is upsetting and angers them. if the friend had doubts, he'd ask. likewise, shut the fuck up about your goddamn god unless someone's asking.0 -

Who says I would act that way? Would you act that way in talking to the person about marriage? There are ways to help people that do not offend them just like there are ways that do. Heck, some women get offended when you hold the door open for them. The only people we should try to get even with...

EXACTLY. if it's wrong for someone to force religion down your throat; why is is ok for you to do the same? that's like saying mr x killed mr y so i'm going to kill now.0 -

i doubt anyone on here truly believes that. but most of us do believe (and probably rightly so) that MOST christians are like that. what is it... 75% of this country is christian? you truly believe most of them are truly devoted to living like jesus did?0 -

You're acting this way about religion and calling it compassion. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Great. Except...in all your intelligence...you still haven't figured out that it doesn't bother me if they bash religion, but it does bother them if I am pro-religion.

i was doing that on purpose to get your attention. dispute the rest of my points. and it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. cos your single-minded refusal to own up to your own hypocrisy and admit that you do exactly what you're lamenting here pisses me off.0 -
This thread's gone exactly the way the original poster predicted in the first post. Thanks for demonstrating that he was dead-on accurate.

no, it doesn't bother them if you're pro-religion. it bothers them that you're pro-religion and are so arrogant about it that you pity anyone who isn't. why can you not grasp that?0 -

and don't jump into religious threads if you don't want to hear about God. can't you see you put yourself in the situation by entering a conversation about God.
hey ss; i'm going to pray for you every day just to piss you off.0 -

OK - here's how I see it. Slow and simple for ya:
1. I am not offended by athiests or by someone bashing my religion.
2. They are offended by someone being pro-religious, yet feel it is OK to bash religion.
Now I might be biased, but I think the hypocrite is the person in #2.

precisely. maybe this is why the atheists are so angry... they're really just compassionately trying to show you how wrong you are and how you should embrace the true belief system before it's too late and you've wasted all your sundays in church?0 -

Because it's not the same thing. You're jumping from one thing to something else there.
It's like this (3rd time): One camp bashes freely and claims to be offended by getting bashed (that's hypocritical). The other camp doesn't get offended by bashing and therefore should have a right to bash back (or express their religious views). The only people we should try to get even with...

Of course!
It wasn't hard to prove.

1. atheists are not offended by you believing in god.
2. they are offended by you bashing them for not doing so. they dont feel it is ok to bash religion, they do it becos you bash them first and they do it out of frustration and all-too-human shortcomings of fighting fire with fire.
no, the atheists are not perfect. but they're also only human. and when you fight dirty with your passive-aggressive bullshit (i dont bash their beliefs, i just feel so sorry for those stupid, pathetic sinners), they fight dirty back. no, it's not good, but they can hardly be blamed. perhaps if you got some of your christian brothers and sisters to stop acting like their shit dont stink and they are god's gift to this heathen world, then you wouldn't have this problem. focus your pity on them, not the atheists. the atheists dont need it.0 -

hey hey now, when you say "they are offended" the wording implies all atheist. don't make assumptions. surely all atheists aren't offended.0
