    Nice? Are you kidding me?

What's nice about religious kooks who insist that anyone who doesn't believe as they do and in what they believe in; that they are going to burn in hell?

It's not NICE to repeatidly knock on my front door and ring my bell, at 7:00 AM on a Saturday morining; to "enlighten " me about "your" god.

What's not NICE is religious organizations who refuse to pay taxes, but spend their money on lobbyists in Washington, lobbying and influencing Congress to create Laws and policies that reflect their religious beliefs.

If the religious people can't handle an opinion and belief that differs from theirs, then they need to shut the fuck up about their opinions and beliefs!

Here we go with the hateful, prejudicial, completely ignorant sterotyping that is so prevalent here. As a fairly outspoken Christian around these parts i have NEVER damned anyone to hell for disagreeing with my spiritual beliefs. Not once have i done that. Nor have i without provocation, warrant, or reasonable support, with no reason but mean spirited malice reffered t someones sacred beliefs as , bullshit, fallacy, lies, mythological, or as a "hoax". i also have never knocked on anyones door at 7 am on a Saturday morning, or any day at any time for that matter, and tried to force my beliefs on them. (Really, how many fucking times has aChristian rang your fucking doorbell at 7 am on Saturday? Not many methinks. Even Jehovahs witnesses go door to door only sporadically and rarely ever at 7 am. i call bullshit on this one). i dont even care if you believe as i do in regards to spirituality. i say this all the time here. This is the second time in this very thread. What i will do is call you on your hypocritical nature by being guilty of the type of shit you accuse Christians of. Look, if you want to know what average, everyday Christians are REALLY like, turn off the fucking T.V, log off the internet, put down the op/ed page of your local rag, and go out and have a few beers with some. You could really use the experience.
Look, defending your faith when attacked, or discussing your faith when asked does not equate to "pushing beliefs". When asked respectfully, i will discuss, and when attacked, i will defend. All i ask is to be allowed to do that without being told to "shut the fuck up". thanks.

I've read about scholars and historians of the time and place jesus was born not mentioning him at all. But I have also read some decent cases that he might have existed...no one can really prove anything.

you said: I'm asking because you have defended Judaism, yet you start a thread trashing Christianity

there is no conflict of interest and no inconsistency as far as i can see. support one, trash the other. that's balanced.
To ask what people believe with respect to Christianity is not trashing anything...I followed up on this thread by actually providing evidence that there was a historical Jesus. So why do you think I am trashing anything?

Yea, it's consistent from the perspective of a Jew, but not from the perspective of an Atheist. And thus why I asked if he is a Jew. I don't really care either way, but it would explain his attitude towards the topics and for attempting to undermine Christianity. Personally, I think it's all bullshit and Judaism is probably the worst religion. If you could measure how much shit stinks.

To each is own though. I could teach a course on why God is a myth, but I'd only get Atheists in attendance.

Further more, this coming from a guy has often expressed and celebrated a desire to see Israel bomb the crap out of their Palestinian neighbors or any Muslims in general. Is that the peaceful way of life you speak of?
What makes you think that everyone who followed the way of Jesus (allegeldy) were so peaceful? Forget about that whole Crusades thing? Not a very peaceable way of being a Christian...

Look, whether or not Jesus existed, is simply not debated anymore! There is enough corroboration, both historical, as well as archeologica. (when determining whetehr a historical document is reliable archeologists often look to see if people, places and events mentioned in the document can be archeologically verified. This is true of the Gospels and much of what they mention has been archeologically found to be quite accurate). Perhaps more important than the other than biblical historical sources that mention Jesus, is the fact that hostile sources, (by that i mean sources that would contradict the gospel account of his historicity) are non existent! Certainly there were plenty of people who could have killed the Christian movement at its onset by simply stepping forward ans saying, "hey, i was there and the guy never even existed". Didn't happen. The Christian movement could not have taken root, as it did, right there in Jerusalem where Jesus allegedly excercised his ministry, with people standing around refuting his very existence. There are even Hostile Jewish sources which mention Jesus and refer to him as a "false Messiah, who practiced magic, and was justly condemned to death". These hostile sources obviously, although unflattering, account for his existence.
The book has been closed by everyone other than a very small, fringe element of attention seeking pseudo-scholars on whether or not Jesus
actually existed. It simply is not even debated by anyone serious any longer. Again if you want to argue Jesus' divinity, i'll listen. But as far as whether or not he even existed, i'll waste absolutely no more of my time. Neither will any honest, unbiased, serious historian.
Lastly, i ask you refrain from calling me outside of my name. Thanks.

i don't. ahnimus was the one actually having a go at you. i was merely pointing out that trashing christianity and praising judaism seemed balanced to me considering what the jews thought about jesus, upon whose teachings the religion of christianity was founded. I didn't say you were trashing anything.

Dude, I don't hate Jews or Israel, stop saying shit like that. I'm getting sick of it.

    I don't like religion, it's vicious and it's lies.

You are a living example of it.

Oh shut the hell up. I originally wasn't talking about you. I was talking about the religious kooks (of every religion, not just Christians who behave , say and do exactly what I stated).

Don't talk to me about Christians. I live right smack in the middle several thousands of them. And there are plenty who act and behave exactly as I stated. So if you don't act that way, then it doesn't apply to you, does it!?! Maybe you don't push your beliefs, but plenty do (from every religion) and you know it. So cut out the bullshit. Christian groups are constantly trying to shove their religion down every one's throat. Only a fool would deny it.

For your information, I hardly every watch TV and I interact with plenty of christians......every single day. I'm well aware of who they are and what they're all about.

And yes, they do knock on my door at least once a month at 7:00 AM in the morning. Call bullshit all you want.

...and by the way, that was so very unchristian of you. Oh my.:D

Not directed at you becuase of the smiley but this remark is so stupid. A christian's role model is perfect but not the christian. So falling short of the mark in deeds and words is extremely christian. I think this type of remark ranks right up there "I know you are but what am I?". You expect it out of small children, but perplexing when it comes from an adult.

  • I haven't done the research, unforunately (it's something I'd be interested in...) but my current theory is that Jesus existed in a literal sense, but simply as a dude. Almost all of the mythology surrounding him I think is the result of misinterpretiations, a laack of focus on factual statements, simple fabrication, exaguration, &c.

In other words, Jesus' original message is very distict from Christianity, in my mind. The best example I can give about this relates to SIN.

SIN is a very very big part of Christianity. However, I beleive Christ's intent was to de-emphasise Sin. I think the origninal message was not that "I forgive your sins" or "I die for your sins" or, if it was, this was a front for his real intentions. The idea is to focus on the present. There was (and unfortunately, is) an idea that someone who has sinned is marked, impure, or in some other way distinct and that this is relevant for considerations in the present. This would be what jesus wanted to ge rid of: the idea that sin marked someone. Consider that whole deal with the prostitute......

Anyhow, I could go on... and I plan to, but not here and now.
