    Just caught The Hurt Locker.

It's excellent. And not in a Bill & Ted way.

    Very deserving of the win.

    Just watched 'Confucius'.

Very good movie. My favourite movie of the year so far. I thought it was going to be boring, but it's a really good film. You'll need subtitles though as it's a Chinese film. It looks like an epic 1960's movie - like The Searchers, or something. Also reminded me a bit of 'Cold Mountain'. It has some really nice scenery...beautiful landscapes.

watched "She's Out of my League" on sunday.
It was just OK. I was expecting more. However, my movie-going experience might be biased since some asshole brought a 3 year old into a crowded 9:45 rated "R" movie. The kid talked, walked around, skicked seats, cried, yelled, and was very annoying until I saw an open seat a few seats down and moved. Some Fucking parents these days are cluless.

long story short, i'd rather have waited for it on DVD.

saw the ghost writer on the weekend ...

it's pretty good - it's about a writer who has to take over the writing of the former PM of britain after his predecesor was found dead ... pretty interesting socio-political theme ... wonder what tony blair thinks of this movie?

Finally saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D over the weekend. I enjoyed it. Some parts were pretty bad though (Didn't care for the ending). Visually it was decent. Plot had some holes in it.

i watched the documentary 'manufactured landscapes' the other night on the photography of edward burtynsky, it was really good

    trailer
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3uYIWig ... re=related

though, the pullouts on the trailer are too fast, in the doc it focuses on a small thing like a ladder or car or dump truck then slowly pulls out to show this massive scale of it all

him talking about his art and the doc

    go rent an education.

i searched movies and kat and this was the first to come up ... :)

saw an education ... brilliant performance by carey mulligan and a shout out to alfred molina ... one of those guys who delivers in his often supporting roles ...

anyhoo - wanted to mention a film i saw the other day ... Mother and Child ...

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1121977/

it's about adoption ... overall, it was missing the drama that a film like this needs to push it over the top ... it was however BRILLIANTLY acted by pretty much everyone in the cast ... i will go out on a limb and say Annette Benning gets an Oscar even tho this film is released at this time of year ... she was outstanding ... same with naomi watts ...

I saw Cold Souls awhile back. Great premise, dull execution. This could have been so much better.

    Just saw Inglorious Basterds.

Well worth it. Well, well worth it.

I'm amazed almost every time I see a Tarantino movie at how much his being a fan of film and cinema actually comes through in his films. His little nods and winks to celluloid are welcome by me as someone who remembers those small quirks in the visual and auditory presentation being native to seeing a movie. I appreciate the brilliance of a hi-def picture and audio, but I always think "THIS is a film!" when I see film grain, cigarette burns, and chopped up editing. Black Dynamite had this too.

Just saw The Road, very depressing, loved it. This is the argument for being faithful to a book in a movie adaptation, unlike....harry potter movies , every comicbook movie ever, Watchmen was very close, which is why it kicked ass in my opinion.

I have been catching up on movies while I do cleaning and paperwork: There Will be Blood, No Country for Old Men, Cold Mountain. Cold Mountain was my least favorite. The villain if you can call him that, in No Country for Old Men was one of the most fascinating characterizations ever, but Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will be Blood wasn't far behind.

Just watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Woah. Wow. Great movie. Its got some rough scenes (IMO NC-17) but the story was fascinating and I just squinted a little through the rough parts.

Also saw Shutter Island - liked it, except for the ending.

The Illusionist - like the whole thing, and especially the ending.

Daybreakers was fun. Not great, but an interesting twist on the whole vampire genre.

Also, you can't go wrong with some Willem Dafoe.

'Knight and Day'----a thoughtless and enjoyable summer popcorn flick.
    'Cyrus'
Marisa Tomei is still fucking smoking at 46..and that fat dude from 'Superbad' was spot on in his role.
