I saw Road House for the first time last night. It was like a train wreck that I couldn't stop watching until it ended at 1:30 am. Having heard about this movie for years, I can honestly say that it lived up to the spectacle that I thought it would be. 80's hair (feathered and large). 80's vehicles (monster trucks and convertables). 80's soundtrack (nondescript studio rock). 80's plot (bad guy extorts the "good" and "honest" locals). 80's bad guy (rich guy who has an large number of unusually loyal henchmen working for him). 80's acting (overacting).
I think the only way my evening could've been more complete is if Over the Top or Tango & Cash would have been on next.

Would highly recommend watching 'Harry Brown'. Not just a film about thugs and vengeance, it was made with a sincere passion on the subject of 'justice' and it's definition.
Anyone seen 'A serious Man' yet? Gonna try and watch this sometime soon.
I know this movie has been out for a while, but we saw JESUS CAMP this weekend and it was amazing - in a creepy, train wreck, are these people real sort of way. But seriously, it was good. Disturbing, but good.
The White Ribbon is an amazing movie - very very much recommended!
REC - is a really well done horror again highly recommended (that's the original spanish one - avoid the Hollywood remake Quarantine like the plague!).
Persepolis is pretty good. A Prophet has got out standing reviews and its one i'm looking out for when its released. REC not too bad. Its your run of the mill 'blair witch' style horror film but worth a watch.
I watched 'A serious man' the other day - very funny and intelligent film with wonderful characters in it as you might expect from a Coen Brothers film.
Just watched 'The Baader Meinhof Complex'. Very good film. Similar in a way to 'The Battle of Algiers' in that it shows terrorism from the perspective of the terrorists.
The Baader-Meinhof gang (aka The Red Army Faction) operated in Germany from the 70's until 1998 and opposed such things as the Vietnam war, U.S support of Israel, and U.S bases in West Germany e.t.c. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Army_Faction
The movie does a good job of re-creating the 70's in Germany and includes quite a bit of actual archive footage from the times. If you like radical politics and action movies then you'll like this film.
In it's look and rhythm it reminded me a bit of the 2003 South African cop-turned-robber movie 'Stander' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stander_%28film%29 which is also based on a true story - except 'Stander' isn't as intense and serious as this movie.
(The Baader Meinhof Complex was nominated for the best foreign language film at the Oscars in 2008).
Recommended. 4/5
Edit: There's also a very nice looking chic in this movie called Nadja Uhl:
I saw it Saturday and didn't like it at all. Toby McGwire ruined it for me, I think, although Natalie Portman didn't help either. I think the story had potential, but the acting was awful and parts of it were SO predictable. 1 out of 5 for me.
you are the first person i have ever heard say think liked that big stinking pile of poo
I thought was o.k. I didn't think it was scary - except for one part when they walk into the clearing and find all the occult paraphernalia hanging from the trees - but it was pretty original how they shot the thing (at least according to my limited knowledge of movies :geek: )
The White Ribbon is an amazing movie - very very much recommended!
Just watched this. I thought it was shit. One of the most drawn-out, boring, and pointless films I've ever seen. The ending was a total let down. I spent the whole film waiting for something to happen, and nothing happened.
I can't believe it won the Palme D'or at Cannes.

the whole time i felt like i was just watching 3 film students wander around acting scared. i never got into it.
no one saw Blair Witch 2 but it really wasnt that bad. not the best horror in the world, but it did have a few creepy parts.
Men who Stare at Goats was ok, but the ending was pretty weak. it never really went anywhere and you could tell they just wrote themselves into a hole and had nowhere to go.
It's really good - quite funny in parts, like the book. And like the book, the ending's pretty grim (except that in the book one of the brothers walks into the sea, and the other goes mad). A very good film though. Recommended. It's like a slightly warped philosophical treatise on modern man - pessimistic, cynical, and absurdist. Same lead male actor as in 'The Baader-Meinhof Complex': Moritz Bleibtreu.
Watched Public Enemies on Bluray tonight. There was a scene, that totally blew my mind. Doubt this Dillinger line will ever work today. But ya never know.

I was raised on a farm in Mooresville,
Indiana. My ma died when I was three. My
daddy beat the hell out of me because he
didn't know no better way to raise me. I
used to do dumb things but I'm a lot
smarter now. I like baseball, movies,
good clothes, fast cars, and you. What
else do you need to know?
She gets into her coat. Dillinger opens the door for her.
I went and saw Sherlock Holmes today - I really liked it. I thought it was a very good version of Sherlock. Robert Downing, Jr did a terrific job! Very action packed and a great plot! Very well made.
I never get to the movies, but just watched 'The Ugly Truth' on DVD, and agree with what the bloke stood for.
Life would be less complicated if women got what he was saying....
Did he hit the nail on the head or was it a masive exageration??
What do you blokes reckon?
Saw Fantastic Mr. Fox the other day. It was a decent fun family film.
