For fans in the Toronto Area ... there is a free exhibit showing props and costumes at the BELL Lightbox for the week ... also, Martin is doing a Q and A sometime this week and a book signing at Chapters/Indigo ...

bluray came sat, watched them all before bedtime sunday.... was hoping to read more of adwd, oh well.

thought the show did a very good job of the first book, atleast from what i can remember. only thing they shouldnt have cut was when jon went to see bran before leaving and cat just tells him to leave, in the book if i remember right she tells him she wished it was him, instead of bran. really missed out on how cold she is to jon and how nice he tries to be to her.

They did a lot to soften Cat's charactor in the TV show compared to the Novel. Besides that I also remember in the book Cat was pushing Ned to go to Kings landing saying it was good for him to be there and Ned was reluctant to go. I think in the show she was telling him to stay.

I listened to this on the audiobook last night on the way to agility training.

When Jon was walking out of Bran's room, she called "Jon!" and he realized it was the first time she'd ever said his name. When he turned back, they made direct eye contact and she said "It should have been you."

When I heard that, I thought, "Wow, I didn't realize she was that awful to him." (Based on only ever having seen the TV show _ where they removed that line. As best I can recall.)

Season 1 on DVD arrived this week. Mr. Unlost is away for 10 days and I didn't get into this weekend's agilty tournament, so I'm planning on a Game of Thronesathon.

Going to stock up on bread, cheese, a roast chicken, and dark beer. I'll feel like I'm right there in Winterfell.

I've read the entire series so far, and I keep hoping that despite all of Martin's toying with us and doing bad things to great characters, there is some grand redemption in the end. I mean, its a fantasy epic for crying out loud...it can't end with all your heroes dead, can it?

I'm itching to see just how grand the redemption is. The other exciting aspect to consider is that this series is planned to be 7 books long...there are 5 out already. In the archetypal fantasy epic, we're way too far along to introduce a new, beloved character who's going to save the day (at least traditionally), which tells me that all of our favorite heroes/characters (save Ned) could play the pivotal roles in the end (just saying "the end" gives me chills; can't wait to see how it turns out!), which is awesome because I LOVE the characters in this story. Also, I read somewhere that Martin pretty much confirmed this by saying that in the final 2 novels, there will be no new character point of view chapters (in other words, there might be new characters but not through whose eyes we'll view the story).

My money's riding on Bran (that kid is special, I'm telling you), Danaerys (duh), Jon Connington, Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister as characters playing big roles in the end. That's not to say that the other characters won't matter, but I think the above listed people will be crucial toward saving the Seven Kingdoms. Man...I never thought I'd sound so dorky.:lol::lol:

For those that have read "Dance With Dragons," I realize that one of the names on my list may look odd, given what happens to said character, but trust me, I've got a hunch on this one. So don't voice your surprise and spoil it for those who haven't finished that book.

Picked up issue #1 of the comic, but didn't find it compelling enough to keep getting. There wasn't any new ground covered in it. The HBO series gave such great visuals that this seemed like overkill.

You’ve read the books. You’ve watched the hit series on HBO. Now acclaimed novelist Daniel Abraham and illustrator Tommy Patterson bring George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy masterwork A Game of Thrones to majestic new life in the pages of this full-color graphic novel. Comprised of the initial six issues of the graphic series, this is the first volume in what is sure to be one of the most coveted collaborations of the year.

it says it's not released until march 27, 2012

I was afraid i was crazy for my take on Martin's writing, glad to see i'm not alone here. Must say i enjoy Tolkien, i dont mind heavy descriptions if done right, but Martin repeats the same long descriptions.

agreed ... like how many times does he have to repeat "you know nothing, jon snow" or "my name is reek, rhymes with leek" ...

having said that - i am probably bitter that i started reading these books without knowing that the ending wouldn't be coming for some time ... hahahaha

might have to get the blu ray for the special features!

I was a little disappointed, I thought there would be more feature-wise.

I loved, "you know nothing, jon snow". I can't wait to see it said on screen! I did get sick of, "reek, rhymes with leek".

I don't like reading unfinished series either. I tend to blow right through them and have a hard time waiting for the next book!

About the first 65-70 percent of A Dance with Dragons happens at the same time as A Feast For Crows. The last 40 or 35% is all new.

Some things do get tied up others are still wide open.

I love the bread, cheese, chicken, and dark beer :)

I think everyone that read the book had a bad taste for Cat when she said that about Jon Snow. Anther big thing they leave out is how in the begining Theon kicks the head of the night watch soldeir that Ed Executes. That just put a bad taste in my mouth about Theon from the start.

Both were obviously left out to not give that opinion of them.

Finished AFFC last night...so many gd cliffhangers I'm liable to pull my hair out! Which of course, we won't get to until book 6 and who knows when that will be out. I think I need to take a little break before I start ADWD...my wall will thank me!
About the first 65-70 percent of A Dance with Dragons happens at the same time as A Feast For Crows. The last 40 or 35% is all new.

Some things do get tied up others are still wide open.

yeah ... keep reading so you can suffer like the rest of us ...:lol:

however, seeing as ADWD is hardcover - i would recommend putting some kind of protective cushioning to limit your wall damage ...

forgot all about the greyjoy part, but he does enough later to hate him. so ill let one bad act of his be forgotten....

also who ever commented on the bluray extras, i agree i think there was more to be desired. i think a bloopers reel would have been a fun extra. no deleted scenes (though from what i read there wasnt much they filmed that didnt make the show) no bloopers, and they reused quite a bit of cast interviews for different segments. felt a little short changed with that.

Anyone get in on the previw night next week?
On facebook today in Atlanta they posted a site you could go to in order to get free tickets to a screening of episode one "The North Remembers" next Wed in a movie theatre here in Atlanta.

It literally filled up in 10 minutes and said they were no longer taking reservations :(

Was wonderign if that was just for Atlanta or if other cities got it too?

And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
