Immeasurably better on tap than from the bottle, though my experience on that front is only 2 bottles deep. Enjoy! You don't live in philly do you? They get some Russian River there from time to time, but I couldn't find any bars with Pliny when I was there last weekend.Horos wrote:

Local place has Pliny the Elder on tap going to get my first taste today.0

How long have you had the bottle? I find I enjoy 120 muuuuch more after at least a few (6+) months on the bottle.0

Sucks that yet were out. I was able to share my last bottle of Pliny with the manager, a bartender and a fellow beer geek at my local watering hole, World of Beer, yesterday. I'd like to know the same. I have one bottle of 2011 that I've had for over a year and am thinking about sitting on for a while. I also have 2 bottles of 2012 I may end up saving if they get much better after a couple years.MotoDC wrote:

Also any details about your aging conditions would be helpful. Mine are quite pedestrian -- I have a box of beer in my pantry with a towel over it to protect it from sunlight. I'd like to keep it about 10 to 15 degrees cooler but until I can figure out which wine/beer fridge to buy (and a place to keep it), that's all I can do.0

I keep all my beers refrigerated at around 45-50 degrees. Not exactly ideal "cellaring" conditions, but living in southwest Florida I don't have a lot of options.I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0

my wife signed me up for the beer of the month club for my birthday last month. she's awesome. it's the gift that keeps on giving, clarke.
last month i got a couple from lazy magnolia in mississippi: southern pecan (delicous brown ale), and deep south pale ale (pretty solid). also got a couple from woodstock inn brewery: pigs ear brown ale (tasty) and their loon golden ale which was my least favorite for the month.
a few days ago the latest shipment arrived featuring a couple breweries i've sampled before: abita and foothills. i love abita's restoration ale. lil caramel flavor in there. the other one is their pale ale called purple haze. havn't had it yet. says it's got raspberries added after filtration. i dunno bout that.
foothills---got the dirty blonde which is a cream ale. i've had that before down in nc. very drinkable. can throw back a ton of these on saturday afternoon watching baseball. and then their ipa called endo. haven't tried it yet.
 fucking love this gift. :thumbup:www.myspace.com0

Just finishing up a Russian River Beatification and it was amazing. Easily the most sour beer I've ever tried. If you're a fan of sour beers, don't pass this one up if you get the chance. Technically, they should be stored in a cool cellar or basement and not refrigerated. Refrigeration can slow down the aging process and actually dries out corks over time (some beers are corked if you didn't know). I don't have a problem with it, but some might. I don't really have another option here in Florida.strilo wrote:

Also, different beers are recommended to be stored at different temperatures. Generally the lighter the colour of the beer, the colder the temperature (which is actually opposite to what I would have thought, but anyway)...
I do the same thing with mine. I bought a wine fridge and took out the bottom couple of racks and replaced them with shelves for beer storage... so there's wine and beer in mine... I live in Houston, so I also don't really have another option for "Cellaring" in this climate...
Only difference is that my fridge temp is set at 52 degrees, and generally sits at around 52-55. This is a little closer to the middle of the storage temp range for all the different beers...
Haven't had any problems with corks drying out to date... although generally speaking most of the beers I age are capped.Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.0

Just blended a little bourbon into my Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout. Excellent as always. I've done it with both good and cheap bourbons and it always works for me. This time it was Ancient Age (which isn't exactly top shelf). I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0 I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0

Just finishing the last 1/2 glass of my only bottle of Ruination, 10th anny...
I've never had a glass of normal ruination before, but the 10th anny is absolutely divine... too bad it's my only bottle... adam42381 wrote:Sucks that yet were out. Russian River doesn't distribute to the state of texas, so I've never had a taste... ... the first thing I will be able to try is the Brux collaboration with Sierra Nevada... it arrived here in Texas last week and will be next up on my tasting list after I have my Flanders Fred (Beer of the month club from june)... ... the first thing I will be able to try is the Brux collaboration with Sierra Nevada... it arrived here in Texas last week and will be next up on my tasting list after I have my Flanders Fred (Beer of the month club from june)...
If there is anyone out there that has a bottle of the Pliny that they'd be willing to ship to me, I have a great bottle of beer I'd be willing to trade.... a 22 oz bottle of 2011 Pumpkinator from St. Arnold... they do a one off batch once a year, and it is by far the BEST pumpkin beer I've ever had... and it should age very well at 10% ABV... I've got 3 bottles left from the 2011 batch... :?:

Opened and finished my first Ruination 10th anni tonight as well. Lucky for me a I fanagled 3 bottles out of my local shop. I enjoyed it mightily but holy shit it's a monster. Bitterness lingers all over the tongue like raw oily hop blossoms. I wrote my own review and then read some on beeradvocate...was shocked to see some folks saying they thought it was balanced. I loved it, but it's anything but balanced (imo). It's an attack on your senses, makes Palate Wrecker look like 60min.shep wrote:Just finishing the last 1/2 glass of my only bottle of Ruination, 10th anny...
