  • Grabbing a 1/6 keg for this weekend...what should I get? We were thinking either Sam Adams Boston Lager, Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye or Brooklyn Winter.

of those three...Sierra Nevada...no doubt about it...and i say that without having ever tasted it.

Sam Adams is the most over rated beer....

I've had Brooklyn but it was unmemorable.

Tried the Ruthless the other night. It is a tasty beer & blows the other 2 choices out of the water.

It's like 2.5 cases. Something in the neighborhood of 55 beers. If we're doing it for the superbowl, probably be enough for 6 people or so. Nothing crazy. Its just easier than bottles.

Ruthless Rye is the easy choice here. Nothing against Boston Lager, but to me they're not in the same league.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I don't know the full story but I think Sierra Nevada is opening a brewery near Asheville, NC.

They are. It was finalized and announced over the weekend. New Belgium is also trying to open a brewery there. Going to be a really cool beer destination.

Yeah, definitely. My mom lives in NC now, a ways from Asheville but we will definitely be making some trips out there. Beautiful area too.

Asheville NC is so kick ass already that is awesome.

I liked Ruthless Rye. It was tasty but i'm still loving their Torpedo IPA more

They have great bottle shops in Asheville and The Thirsty Monk was named to RateBeer's best beer bars in the world :)

  • I always feel like the uncool kid who is always behind on everything around here since you guys get all this exotic stuff I can't but I made a trip the other day for some new treats...

Sierra Nevada Kellerweis...me thinks my favorite of that style so far
Rogue Chocolate Stout...pretty good, if you've paid attention you've realized i can get lots of rogue here

Others I haven't dipped into yet...
Anchor Steam...I've had their porter and loved it so hoping this is good too
Shiner Dortmunder spring seasonal...Shiner has always been take it or leave for me so we'll see
Tallgrass IPA...hope its as good a Buffalo Sweat
Samuel Smith Winter Welcome...been good to me so far

Shit...there's one more and I can't remember what it is...

My buddy picked up a 6pack of Abita Satsuma Wheat yesterday...Abita has also been hit or miss with me but I actually enjoyed this one, nice satsuma taste but not overpowering to the point of citrus overload at all, nice aroma

EDIT: The one I forgot was Diamond Bear (Little Rock) Paradise Porter....i had stayed away from this brewery for months because I had their amber and it was absolutely awful...this one was better but it still has a very odd finish and aftertaste...mediciney almost I guess...I'll try another of DB's in 6 months or so I guess
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

I'm a big fan of Anchor Steam. It's not a very popular style, but it's quite good. It's very similar to the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp California Common if you had that from the mix pack last summer.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

  • In the interest of being a completist I picked up a 6pack of the new Bud Light Platinum yesterday, which i guess is supposed to be a competitor against craft brews in their eyes. Pretty damned awful I thought but far better than regular Bud light..just glad i had somebody to share it with so that vile liquid wouldn't sit in my fridge waiting to be drank
