  • I read in the Daily news today, the Mets AA & AAA teams are a combined 45 games under .500. That is staggering. No other MLB team's AA & AAA are even close. Throw in Bernazard fighting with KRod, calling Wagner "soft" right before Wagner needed Tommy John, and of course, going Hulkamania on the AA Bisons, and you've got the Queens Zoo there.

Well, it's just this one motherfucker we need to cut asap....whatever scum he may be, there is a daily news man gunning for his head....nonetheless, hope to rid him soon..

The Mets did not announce any disciplinary action Wednesday against Tony Bernazard, the club's vice president of player development, after he reportedly bullied the Double-A team in Binghamton early this month and challenged the players to a fight in the clubhouse.

But general manager Omar Minaya, in a six-minute dugout news conference, did say Bernazard has essentially been grounded until the club has completed its investigation, possibly by the end of this weekend. Bernazard usually travels to the team's minor-league affiliates. Instead, he will remain at his New Jersey home until Minaya has a chance to further discuss the matter with him.

"I've talked to him and I'll continue to talk to him," Minaya said. "We'll sit down and talk this weekend. I've notified him we'll investigate these things and then I'll sit down with our owners and ask how are we going to handle this."

A person familiar with the situation said Minaya had no intention of firing Bernazard after the Daily News story surfaced Wednesday morning and that his stance is unlikely to change in the coming days. Minaya has considered Bernazard a loyal lieutenant and always has been reluctant to fire colleagues.

Minaya tried unsuccessfully to protect Willie Randolph in his final days last season. Bernazard was one of Randolph's loudest detractors. Even if Minaya does go to bat for Bernazard, he could be powerless to save him - just like Randolph - if the Wilpons want Bernazard removed.

Clearly, the brash Bernazard has made many enemies within and outside the organization. It also was revealed Wednesday that recently Bernazard got into a shouting match with Francisco Rodriguez on the team bus.

"He's a loose cannon," a baseball executive said. "He does whatever he wants, so I don't see it stopping anytime soon."

That depends on what details emerge in the coming days. Bernazard had cultivated a close relationship with COO Jeff Wilpon, and a person familiar with the situation said Wilpon always valued Bernazard's opinion in staff meetings.

But like Randolph, who was undone by negative momentum, a continuing buildup of embarrassing evidence could doom Bernazard. On occasion, he would be the stand-in for Minaya on road trips, and he accompanied the team to Atlanta last weekend.

Bernazard also was a fixture on trips to Washington when his close friend Manny Acta was the Nationals' manager. Minaya also said assistant GM John Ricco will go with the Mets to Houston this weekend, and that he will visit the team's affiliates before meeting with Bernazard.

Minaya deflected a barrage of questions with variations of the same answer involving the word "investigations." He refused to say if the allegations against Bernazard were sufficient grounds for firing or if it was unacceptable conduct for a Mets official.

"We do take these matters very seriously and we are going to investigate these reports," Minaya said.

With the Mets in a tailspin and 10 games behind the Phillies, Minaya was forced to deal with another distraction.

"You never like to have these reports out there," he said. "But when you have a big department, these things happen. I'm staying focused on the team and how we are going to continue to improve this team."

this really is a mickey mouse organization. its really pathetic this "tough guy" is allowed to be a talent evaluator and vp of this team. there's rumors around baseball tony bernazard got into a argument with johan in the mets clubhouse and johan basically said fuck off to tony. all this team needs is wright or beltran to get caught with steroids for the icing on this season.

I figure the Mets will never stop being a hot topic, but talk will die down the second weekend in August when the Yankees play against the Red Sox and the Mets play four in San Diego.

  • there was a blurb in the paper today that said the highlight for Bernazards MLB career was tying a 50 year old record by going 0-44 at the plate. It says a lot that this guy still has a job. The Mets are in trouble if Jeff really has as much power now as is being reported. The guy is a know nothing in the mold of a James Dolan or Hank Steinbrenner. Guys who would not get jobs in the mailroom if they weren't the owners kid

Omar is being hung out to dry..

Anyone notice who caught the perfect game yesterday? That's right, Castro....figures...

So after all these players were said to come back, looks like Maine is done for the season, Beltran as well, probably Reyes too..Delgado may come back for the final week....at this point it doesn't matter, but this shit is just beyond belief..

i'm glad he's being hung out to dry. i hate him as a gm.

its not beyond belief they just find new ways to turn the knife into our hearts. this franchise hasn't been good since 1999 and 2000

what was 2006 then? the franchise has had small bursts of success but has never been able to sustain it because the wilpons are paranoid about public perception. for example they traded kevin mitchell because of his alleged gang ties from san diego and of the three african-americans on the 1986 Mets, he had the least off the field problems.

anyone find it odd they put sheff on the dl for 15 days and bring up niese. its even more odd considering the trade deadline is a few days away and niese will pitch one more time before the deadline. could be a possible audition for the jays. it wouldn't shock me to find out that some jays scouts were at the game tonight. i think a deal of pelf and niese and f-mart would be good enough for the jays. maybe throw in this holt kid on the b-mets that the mets are so high on.

Well, add Sheff to a long line of botched handling of injuries as just the day prior he was claimed to be doing much better and would return to the lineup last night..lol..yeah, I'd deal Niese and the other prospects no problem, but would really like to keep big Pelf..

Nice series against the Astros....would have been a sweep if not for the shitty start by Santana who has been uncharacteristically inconsistent this season..

Imagine this lineup if all were healthy:

    1. Reyes
    2. Castillo
    3. Beltran
    4. Delgado
    5. Wright
    6. Francoeur
    7. Sheffield/Pagan/Murphy
    8. Santos/Schneider
    9. Santana

With all this shit there are a few bright spots..Pagan is quickly turning into a well-rounded professional ball player, hope he can stay healthy..and you know I must confess that I've gained major respect for Castillo..He has been growing on me ever since he dropped that ball at Yankee stadium..he stood up and took total responsibility like a man and since then shows up and plays hard every day..

omar is a dumbass as usual. i swear i think this teams finds ways to fuck up and be in the media for all the wrong reasons. omar may have just sealed his fate as gm with that interview. he takes two steps forward and about 6 steps back. maybe adam rubin can get that front office job that he's always wanted with the mets.

i feel bad for rubin outta all this bs. hes actually a good writer.

Only the Mets, only the Mets....Only the Mets could take this somewhat positive situation of finally doing the right thing by firing this clown, and instead turn the organization into even more of a circus...I can't believe this motherfucker is the face of my team....the 'Message from Omar' email fans received really tops it all off....only the Mets..

Another PR nightmare for the Mets, Minaya should be fired for this. I can only imagine the visual on this. I was listening on the radio on the way to a Brooklyn Cyclones game. But as long as they're keeping him they should get him a speech coach, he says uh and um way too much.

Not that the Mets are going anywhere, but it's also too bad this overshadows the fact that their last three games have actually been good.

But the Mets have always been this way, they're paranoid about the media on a level that's slightly worse than the Knicks in the Isiah Thomas era.
