Add Neise to the list of injured.

    And of course Sheffield again..

Man, I love the way Pagan is playing, aside from base running..just a little weary for the future as he is another injury prone player......and damn, I need to rip Wright more often..nice day by him..also looking forward to Parnell starting..

You know its crazy. for a while it was their offense that couldn't score, and now more often then not, its their pitching that's garbage. At least they had a good game all around today, even with the injuries.

Pagan and and Wright both looked great today, and Francouer drew a walk!

This team is garbage, but in all fairness it's not really the 'Mets.' Especially not the team SI picked to win the Series..Omar is getting a lot of shit, but actually did assemble a great looking team--filling in the gaps etc..fucking SI jinxed us....either that, or Citi Field really is cursed..how the hell else can anyone logically explain all the injuries? No other baseball team in history has ever been this decimated by injury..

Enough excuses. A lot of injuries yes, but this team, particularly the GM, who is supposed to running the whole team, has done nothing to build up the minor leagues. We are always at the bottom of these ratings. We were great on paper but any changes to the top 24 was a major, major step down. It also does not allow us to seriously contend for the best available talent at the trade deadline. We have nothing to offer (except injured players) in return.

Saying that, I will still be there on Sunday, rooting for my disaster of a team. I survived the Bamberger and Torberg years, I can't stop now. I just hope my kids get to see something special one day.

I hear that. There is no way any team could have coped with losing not only the amount of players the Mets lost this season, but also the caliber. They lost 3 all-stars for practically the whole season. And for that reason Omar may be taking more heat than he deserves.

However, he still made some questionable decisions during the off-season when he didn't sign a real LF or a real #2 SP. And that Ollie Perez contract was clearly terrible from the moment it was made. I think these two things really hurt the Mets this year, and would have really hurt the Mets regardless of the all the injuries. Sure, had Reyes, Delgado and Beltran not gone down this team would have been better offensively, but our SP still would have been pretty bad, and we would still be desperately searching for a LF.

At this point I think Omar, or whoever the GM is in the off-season needs to go hard after a true #2 starter (or another ace), must go hard after Matt Holliday, and find a suitable 1B.

I'm not much for the injury excuses either, but in this case it is warranted. There is no way any team could survive losing their all-star lead off, third, and fourth hitters..not to mention the other 25 guys who are out..lol..guess the team is top-heavy, but there is no replacing these three guys, no matter how deep the farm system....with that said, sure I'd like to see Omar go..and don't tell me about disasters as at least you've seen championships in your lifetime..I'm 0 for 21 fucking years with this shitty organization as well as the Jets ;) ..

What, you didn't like the Sheffield signing ;)? ....and yeah, the Castillo contract wasn't the best decision either..

Sheff was a fine signing. Castillo, even though he's had a solid season, was not.

And I'm rooting for any team not named the Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox, in that order.

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/08112009/sp ... 184053.htm

The 2009 Mets are on their way to becoming the biggest financial bust in baseball history.

The Wall Street Journal has done the math, and it's ugly:

With a 52-60 record after a loss last night, the Mets' winning percentage of .464 projects to a final record of 75-87.

Based on a payroll of $149 million (according to USA Today), that works out to a cost of almost $2 million per win ($1.98M).

Only the 2008 Seattle Mariners, with a $117 million payroll resulting in 61 wins ($1.91M per win), have gotten a similarly bad return on their investment, according to the Journal's Dave Cameron.

During that season, the Mariners fired their manager and general manager.

To avoid the title of "Worst Bust Ever," the Mets would have to win 79 games.

Of the other six highest-spending teams this season -- Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox, Tigers, Angels, Phillies -- four are in first place and two are in second place.

The Yankees, on pace for 100 wins with a $201 million payroll, are spending slightly more per win than the Mets, but they have the best record in baseball and lead the AL East by 5.5 games.

The Mets are in fourth place in the NL East, 10.5 games out.

The last-place Nationals, on pace for 58 wins, are paying $1.03 million per victory.

The Mets have lots of money on the disabled list, sure: Carlos Beltran ($19 million), Carlos Delgado ($12 million); Billy Wagner ($10.5 million); Jose Reyes ($6.1 million); J.J. Putz ($6 million).

But they also gave Oliver Perez a $36 million, three-year contract this offseason, and he pitches tomorrow with a 2-3 record and 6.38 ERA.

Francisco Rodriguez ($9.1 million) has a career-high 3.24 ERA, has blown five saves, and has walked more and struck out less per inning than he ever has.

And $5 million starting catcher Brian Schneider (!) is batting .197.

Such a finish would give the Mets two of the three worst spending teams of all time. The 2003 Mets, with 66 wins and a $117 million payroll, cost $1.77 million per win.

The 1992 Mets, so much a symbol of bad spending they inspired a book entitled "The Worst Team Money Can Buy," won 72 games with a then-record payroll of $45 million (a meager $625,000 per win).

Adjusted for inflation, that's approximately $950,000.

Well, it finally happened. David Wright is injured. Got drilled tonight by a fastball to his head.

Agreed. I wish they would just do that w/Beltran and Reyes too. This season is done, no reason to ruin next season too.

I was at the game tonight and with how everything has been going actually thought David Wright was fucking dead....from my vantage point he dropped immediately and laid motionless for what it seemed like 3 minutes...this place must be fucking cursed!! There is no other logical explanation....anyway, out to get a little more drunk in an attempt to forget..

    agreed

least we will have a good draft spot in next year's draft

i think its time to get rid of reyes before he becomes damaged goods. this guy never stays healthy. reyes kinda reminds of a another certain 5 tool player that the mets were so high on, i think his name was jay payton.

I fucking called it on the Philly thread that by the time the Mets face the Phillies again, Wright will be out..and Pedro will pitch a no-hitter against us..this is insane..

It won't be against the Mets. These aren't the Mets. This is the Mets AA affiliate.

You know, I've gained even more respect for Wright after this ordeal. I love that he said a part of him is embarrassed to be on the DL..You'd never hear something like that from Reyes..
