He asked me what I like to do in my free time, I said concerts. To which he asked who I like to go see. When I mentione pearl jam the convo took off! It's a gym and he mentioned that he plays pearl jam concert dvds there, that's when I leaned over the desk and gave him a high five :P

    ELAINE: Is that bad?

JERRY: What do you think the Nazis were doin’? (Imitates the Nazi’s salute) That was the heil-five.

just kidding--I just immediately thought of this episode when I read your post. that's a great story! again, good luck.

Yeah I had second thoughts on the high five in the car on the drive home. But I'm a girl and I threw in a little giggle too so maybe he thought it was just silly cute ;) :P

I just had an interview... Where we ended up talking about pearl jam! Hehe... I really want this job!!
I had an internship interview that went like that. The paper's executive asked what kind of music I like and I said "Well, I'm kinda obsessed with this band call Pearl Jam." His face lit up!

Then the next hour all we talked about was the band.

The best job interview ever for me, and I got a free lunch out of it.

Four more lay-offs yesterday, which brings the total to 9 this year. Cutting us back to 4-9 hour days to close the building on Friday, four hours vacation so no pay cut. It does seem things like things are slowly picking up though.

You mean in your company or in general? It seems like all the agencies I'm with say things are really slow, one woman admitted it was "horrendous". We have a bank holiday on monday, you'd think employers would be calling in for cover while people take holidays next week, but...nothing.

I meant in the company I work for. They're telling us volume will be flat through the end of the 2nd quarter, which is way down over last year. The last couple months have been a little better though, hopefully it continues.

I had a full-time interview the other day at a place a family friend works out, I was told they liked my stuff. I think the interviewer was trying to scare me off by saying how much overtime she works, so we'll see what happens with this.

Where I work didn't cut benefits, and they didn't cut salary. They didn't freeze salary, and they are doing their best to not cut more people (8 positions cut in December 08). In order to do this we have 2 weeks *furlough*. The first week in June and the first week in August we are not allowed to work, and we are not paid. I still say management is working the best they can, and I appreciate this least painful solution. It's a drag to figure out how to pay for things for those two months when I'll be 25% in pay down.

However, again, at least no one was laid off, no benefits were cut, and no salaries were frozen.

I've been laid off before. There were endless possibilities then, and I even tried a new career. However, as I know more than I knew then I just focus on here and now and not the long term future so much.

Congrats! So now you'll be working someplace where there is at least one other person who's into PJ, right? 8-);)

I'm sure there will be other benefits but that's bound to be a plus. :D

That is hard. I tend to have a hard time leaving the people I've worked with, or at least the ones that I've had regard for.
