    So???

What do they pay your Chinese Co Workers????

They get the equivalent of about £200 a month.

I started my new job/potential career this week. Been a bit hectic as I've been working on moving in after work each day, but so far it's been good and I'm pretty happy.

  • They were letting us all go as they were moving our team to another location which I couldn't travel to. However, there were other departments with openings and I got one of those jobs with a 2grand pay rise so it's all looking good right now.

    work is good.

my job is considered a 'job saved' by the federal stimulus act... however I feel I was safe anyways. I did get to hire someone though as a direct result of the stimulus.

My job is good. I dont hate it, it challenges me, and it pays me pretty well where I dont think I would be able to come close to it if I left.

the problem is, I work in Philly and commute from Buffalo. I would prefer to live in Buffalo full time and spend time with my friends and suddenly aging parents. If I stay where I am now, I have a pretty secure comfortable living which is what I feel my parents, grandparents, and great grandparent, etc would prefer.

I think i'm having deja vu as I talked on a message board who I believed lived in Buffalo and commuted to Philly or NJ or something like that. what is your drive like?
  • MayDay10MayDay10 Posts: 11,764
7 hours if I take my time. Normally I just stop at a rest area for gas and move on and its about 6:45

the company pays for me to travel home every other weekend, holidays, and vacations, and I could fly, but I prefer to drive and get paid on the mileage.

Im so used to the drive, believe it or not it seems like nothing. we work 4 10 hour days so I leave after work Thursday and get home around midnight Thursday/Friday.... and I return early AM on Sunday and I get back early afternoon. My company is based in Niagara Falls, so there are a number of people I work with in the same situation. A bunch actually commute from Florida.

Laid off 10 days ago; they gave us no notice, closed the office and told everyone we had till the end of the day to get our stuff out. I actually liked that job; had been there for almost 3 years. Now I'm job hunting in the worst economy since the Depression. :(

Hey unemployment and welfare pay well nowadays hahahaha :D

actually my dad has been unemployed for a year to a year and a half... he's surviving but has said there is just nothing out there that he could take unless his unemployment was running out. So he collects, his wife works, and he helps out a friend who owns his own business, from time to time.

I got laid off Halloween 2008 and was somehow lucky enough to land a job in two months without really trying. I like my current job much better than the last one, but I'm getting by on the skin of my teeth financially. But it's not really because of the economy- when you go from working for the bad guys to working for the good guys, you're going to take a BIG pay cut. I just have monsterous student debt though, so it's not an ideal situation.

    from Florida? cut the shit.
  • as i am falling asleep in my cube from the exhaustion of working over 90 hours within the past 7 days.....the job situation is pretty sound. who knows for tomorrow tho? sure, i've made more $$$ this year than i ever have in my life....but it's not that much more than last year (no raise this year, so it's simply the OT pay above my salary that makes the difference)....medical benefits have been cut back some (so i chose to go back on hubby's, better coverage/costs us more)....and we lost some of niceities/perks we usually get. bottomline tho, i still have my job, and things look good that i will continue to have my job. hopefully the economy rebounds quickly and big business starts booming again, and then hopefully...no worries. if things spiral further down, lawd only knows!

    2 more hours.........
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

No notice, that is not good. Oi! When I was laid off as part of the dot.com bust way back when I used the dislocated worker program and went to pastry school. During that time PH.ds were getting the entry level positions as Starbucks, so basically it wasn't the best time to find a job in the pacific northwest. I hear it's worse now. I would think you could apply for unemployment.
