We have a small business 17 years now- we feel powerless
we are having to let go people who have been with us 14+ years - they are like family- we know there spouses watched their children grow been there thru the loss of a parent or other family member, the sorrow of the suicide of a fellow employee
we have shared the good and bad
the thing is we know we can make it- we have a good product at a fair price- my husband and his partner are well liked and respected very hard working and dedicated
and because of this screwed up economy, because of the greedy with their own agendas we may not make it thru this time.
Never thought I'd say this but damn this country and the few that run it
just give us a chance
i feel bad. one of my vendors that is one of the few people i like buying from just got laid off. know i deal with a douche..well he might be alright but im passing judgement
i'm still looking. it's been about a month since i was laid off. some good news, though...my wife found a job yesterday. she's been looking longer than me. plus, i have an interview tomorrow. hope i get the job.

and toady I got an email from the Goddard school saying there are 2 part time shifts open if I want them. (only 2 hours a piece) but I'll take them if all goes well! One step closer to being an art teacher.
though the concerts I have planned could be my only downfall here

Pretty effed at the moment.
I work for a sole practitioner personal injury lawyer who has not paid for me for 4 weeks!!!
And it could not have happened at a worse time since my husband is a teacher and just
now went back to work.!!!
Not to mention my 2nd son starting college next Monday!!!
why did I buy all those PJ tix?????
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me
Turns out that we do have to take furlough days...7 in total...even though apparently having state college workers take furlough doesn't actually save the state any money :? The college presidents were lobbying for there to be different money saving efforts that wouldn't hurt workers, but the agreement was that money had to come from salaries. It's actually going to free me up to pick up extra private practice hours, so in the long run I should make more money. Just hoping it all works out.

2nd furlough week ended early August. First one was first week in June. Other staff are worried about the percentages of their raises at the end of the year, but I wonder if there will be a salary freeze. Next year is suppose to be worse in the building industry.
Although it is crazy competitive out there I know of people who are finding new employment, and I am sending out the resumes so that I'm one of them. When my boss found a new job after 14 years in his old position it really inspired me. Also, when he left he left a gaping hole. He was very enthusiastic about what he did. My new boss and I don't see eye to eye, and her boss who is also new to the company and I don't see eye to eye. I feel like I'm always looking in the wrong place I go into work with the mantra, Don't Get Fired, Don't Get Fired, Play Nice with Others, Don't Get Fired, Focus on the Cutie Sitting in the Cubicle Near the Window, Don't Get Fired.

FINALLY got my ass back to work this week after getting laid off back in January! It's more of an entry-level position and a significant cut in pay compared to what I had been making, but it's better than staying on unemployment and should have lots of opportunity for rapid advancement once things eventually turn around.
I'm at training out of state for a new job, a more art minded field then the last job but still not where I wanna be. One day just happy for the paycheck now!

My work situation sucks. I got let go on Thursday...cutbacks is what I, and everyone at the office was told.
I got a package and have already started looking for something else. Any Toronto jammers help a sistah out?? lol
Sorry Mel. At least they gave me a 4 month warning today. :(
ya some warning woulda been nice. They did say the day before I left for Chicago that there would be some restructuring and some people will prob be let go. I suspected I might be one, but hoped that I would not.
I'm sorry to hear about your job Ricky. I hope you're able to find something new before your 4 months is up.

Yeah it sucks. Had the same job for almost 8 years. Change is not always good.

I get paid to work 24 hours a week but only have to work 9 hours a week. I get paid 8 times more than my Chinese co-workers and I get my apartment paid for by the company. So no complaints from me.

So???
What do they pay your Chinese Co Workers????
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
I've survived two rounds of redundancies in the last 12 months, and recently got "promoted" to look after a wider area. Details (salary/hours etc) of which yet to be discussed.

Had a few things look promising and even made a few short-lists but it's real competitive these days. Never thought I'd be out of work so long...
