Don't get your hopes up. When I called UPS to ask about the UPS fee (that's 11,50€ in Finland), they told me that they'll send a bill in the mail, containing the VAT and UPS fee. In some countries these fees must obviously be payed when you receive the package at your door and some will have the bill later in the mail.Stockholm - 07/07/20120 -

Oh, I was under the impression that the airport is somewhere near you and not that far away. I see that's not really an option under this circumstances. By the way, I would be even more outraged by the fact that the charge for every day holding your package since it's that far. I mean, nobody can expect form you to drop everything and take a day off from work/school/etc. just to make a day trip picking up your goods. That's indeed not even poor service, that's no service at all. So yes, you're even entitled to yell at them (which I think is still unhealthy). Were all those facts included in your email to the 10c?

The limit for duties is an item value of 150€, you won't be charged for anything you import of lesser value (with the exception of alcohol, tabacco anbd perfumes). The 150€ limit is an EU-standard, so it's definitely valid in Greece as well as here in Germany. So there could lie you problem as you've ordered two boxes. If they come in one shipment the item value is 280$ (it doesn't matter how many items are contained, it's the item value per shipment) and thus more than 150€. In this case the customs can collect duties (and, again, those are not based only on the item value but on the total value of the shipment including p&p, in this case on 380$) and duties are really expensive (I don't know any amounts but I'm sure the greek customs have a website). If you received only one tracking number from UPS that's most likely the case and I think there won't be anything the 10c could to for you (except accepting the return of the items and refunding you at least the money for the items).
So the fact he got 2 at once should actually not make it more expensive because he'd trade the 2.5% duty against only 1 UPS handling fee.
The numbers he's getting are very strange and he's one of the few that I believe has grounds for appeal (the Portugueses too)
I'm sorry to say, but I think you're wrong about the 150€ limit. The EU customs regulations actually say that if the value of a product + shipping, imported from a non-EU country exceeds 150€, you must pay custom duties. There's a great bulletin with information about ordering from the internet at the Finnish customs website (only in Finnish) with examples on what you must pay in VAT and duties when ordering from non-EU countries (and what you don't have to pay when ordering from the EU). I'll do a translation of an example so you'll see the rules in the EU. The VAT amount obviously depends on the country and so does the minimum amount that is collected, but the 150€ rule should be the same. If it exceed our duty is 3,5%. Don't know if that duty % depends on the EU country as the VAT does.
the example is:
"A private person orders DVDs by mail. The price including shipping is 50 euros
a) The DVDs are ordered from Great Britain, which is a EU country.
The buyer don't have to pay custom duties, (because the UK is a EU country). The seller is responsible for accounting the VAT to the right member state". (This is why amazon.co.uk adds the VAT at checkout, when I order something to Finland).
"b)The DVDs are ordered from the USA. Shipping charges are 15€. There is no customs duty collected, because the total value of the goods doesn't exceed 150€. Because the total value of the goods exceeds 22 €, we count the VAT:
-the VAT is 22%, based on the tax for the import in other words, the price of the item + the shipping costs (50€)= 11€
The VAT will be collected as it's amount exceeds 10 euros"
The excise duty doesn't have anything to do with the 150€ limit if you look at the example. I do believe that it doesn't matter how many products there is in dimitris case. It's the total value that counts. I don't understand what you meant by trading the duty fee against the UPS fee.Stockholm - 07/07/20120 -

I mean trading as in 2 separate shipment (and treated separately) would trigger 2 UPS charge, but each are under the €150 so no Duty, whilst the 2 shipments if treated together would only have 1 UPS charge but go above the €150 limit and therefore have Duty.
So it balance's out.
Regardless his UPS charge and VAT are too high.0 -

45€, 33 VAT plus 12 to UPS for the great service :?
What's your VAT %. Looks like they've been digging in the box and finding out that the value was actually $190 instead of the $100, written on the package... :(Stockholm - 07/07/20120 -

Obviously 10C didn't ignore you because they responded. I am sure your emotions are running very high at the moment (with reason) but since the problem DOES lie with UPS, contacting this person at UPS is probably the right course of action. Whereas 10C can talk/negotiate with UPS on a higher/more general level, it is UPS which can look at each case individually and sort each one out. They did say the charging issue was a problem with THEM and THEY were trying to sort it out. So... e-mail the contact given at UPS and don't just talk to anybody there as they will not have a clue of what is happening.0 -
Glad not buying this by 10C.
just come from the store ( FNAC) and spend 99.50 euros for this.I'm myself like you somehow.....0 -

Ok, now I got what you meant. Are you actually sure that they count it like that? I mean 2 separate shipments and not looking at it as one person ordering from outside the EU for a total amount that exceeds 150€.Stockholm - 07/07/20120 -

if not, then stop moaning here and email him; then if he brushes you off you can come back and vent.
10c are helping you by putting you directly in contact with someone that can actually do something about it. it's always better to talk to someone directly rather than through several people, information transits much better...ever played Chinese whispers?0 -

I know that through normal post I never had it combined, and though I never used UPS, when I did DHL, they never combined either.
It doesn't really matter in the end, in that case anyway.0 -
