Then it is up to the GENERAL MANAGER to have compitent backups. Teams have injuries..it happens...but when you have to relie up unused or just plain terrible backups its difficult to field a team. On a side note and nothing to do with my previous comment..Can you honestly believe we wasted a roster position on Vick?! Use the friggin guy! He comes in to hand off? He looks timid and the plays NEVER WORK.
Vick is here as a favor to the commissioner. I guarantee it.
They did have competent backups. You can't have a roster absolutely staunched with solid backups. Bradley, Gaither, Mays, Curtis, Hanson, Ingram, Gilles, Dunlap, Clemons, Jordan, Westbrook, Abiamiri, Gocong, Shawn Flaming Andrews, Stacy Andrews, Herremans, Peters - these are all solid starters and backups, who for one reason or another have been hurt or done something absolutely dumb that has cost them the duration or a part of the season. That is WAY TOO MANY. You can't expect to win through all this. And, yes, what the Giants did in '07 was a fluke. That does not - and will not - happen every year. Not even every 10 years.0 -
Didn't the "I completely give up on the Eagles" comments happen last year as well?

Didnt pan out? Didnt even have a chance to work out. What cant you exactly believe? The guy comes in and hands the ball off and they have no plan to make it a better situation. They havent made the guy look good where he is trade bait in the offseason..as a matter of fact most teams are probably looking at the situation and saying "man this guy hasnt played QB in years..pass" so what exactly dont us "eagles fans" understand..Shows:

It's so tough, I'm an outsider, but I always liked the Eagles.
I think most non-Eagles fans think you guys are way too hard on McNabb ... and about right on Reid. But still, 75 - 85% of the league would gradly trade their situation for the Reid / McNabb duo.
Only a few more years left for McNabb ... might as well run it out with Reid ... who else is going to coach this team? Gruden? Cowher?"You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91

there is only one reason Vick isn't in on more plays, he's not that good anymore. He's not nearly as fast as he was, and he needed his speed to be dynamic. That's why he's not in the game more.
They tried ... if he had shown some hints of being good, they could have picked up his option and traded him ... but now, I'm guessing they just cut him."You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91

Well, I fully agree on the McNabb thing. But I can play both sides of the fence on this. On one hand, yes, I believe people are too hard on McNabb in this city because he does put up results. On the other side, and I have always been a McNabb supporter, he just doesn't have that killer instinct and also we live and breath with this team everyday so I think we're more detailed in what we say and evaluate as opposed to those on the "outside." Reid, on the other hand, has great organization skill and building a winning team. But the difference in being a winning team and a championship team is the ability to switch up even your own philosophy to go that next step - ie not making halftime adjustments like in the Super Bowl to defend the screen or going to a no-huddle offense, mis-management of time. But, yeah, you're right that any team in this league would pay a king's ransom to have Reid as their coach. To that, some kind of change needs to be made. Everything that happened yesterday is what's been going on for 11 years now.
And for the record, Shannahan was never a great coach. I'll admit he knows how to run the ball though. But he acquired a lot of Reeves' scheme and of course Elway. I think it's pretty evident to everything Shanahan did once Elway retired.0 -
I actually think that if Vick were given a real chance, he could be good again...one or two passes here and there doesn't give much of an indication of how he'd hold up in full-game situations. I'd be interested in seeing it...Need a tour Travel Agent??? Pick me :-)

yes they did and I was buried on here last year for calling them bandwagon fans because so many last year said they were done with this team. lo and behold 6-8 weeks later they are in the NFC Championship again. let the season play out is all i say. one loss is not the end of the world - looking at realistically on paper you'd have to concede yesterday's game was going to be very difficult to win anyways. A good team on the road with 1 starting linebacker, 3 cornberbacks out by halftime, left tackle out, not to mention Westbrook leaving again (retire Brian for your own health's sake).0 -

when you say 'I am done with this team" yet are back cheering later you are the epitome of a bandwagon fan - i'm not saying all who complain about the team are that way. i did not call everyone on here complaining a bandwagon fan. many of the complaints are legitimate - let's just remember that they don't award Super Bowls after 9 or 10 games. This time last year the Giants were the best team in the NFC and we kicked their asses in the playoffs. did our fans not learn anything last year? It is a loooonnng season - let it play out before you fire the coach and quarterback which we tend to do in Philly after every loss. why do we treat every loss like the end of the freakin world - we are 5-4 right in the hunt for the division title.0 -
And again how did last year end ?
Your argument would hold water if they won 2 Super Bowls coming close every year does not get a trophy the last time I checked
All the seasons take on a life of their own and end the same...not winning it all

I don't ever wanna be Cleveland. If there's ever been a dumber fucking argument it is the one where someone says, "What would you rather have - be competitive ever year or win a Super Bowl and then be terrible for years?" I HATE this stupid fucking hypothetical. OF COURSE I would take the championship, but it doesn't work like that. There's no such thing as deals with the devil or looking into a crystal ball. The people who say picking the option to be competitive every year is stupid, are in fact the morons. Because being competitive every year puts you in a position to win. People look at this shit all wrong. Again, do I wanna be the bride's maid every year? Of course not, but to apparently "go for it all"(whatever in the hell that means) and then be terrible in the aftermath is fucking retarded. With that said, in the NFL today, rebuilding only takes about 3 years if you draft moderately well, build your teams from the front lines on out, and have a manageable quarterback, they can be back in this. In all reality, Donovan is most likely gone after this year anyway, and Reid isn't going anywhere. And I'm fine with that. I would never agree with blowing the whole thing up, but it's not as bad of an idea as some think. As long as your management have their heads on straight then things will be alright.
The biggest pro to the Reid regime is that not only do they build the team to be competitive "in the now", but also for the future. And that's a sound thing knowing you're in this thing even when your franchise quarterback is on the way out, the best running back in the Eagles history's career is officially over(yes he was. and yes it is.)0 -
