in augurations are a big deal, always are...probably always will be. this one, in particular, is even more historic for obvious reasons....and hell yea, after 8 years of bush...collectively as a country, i think most are ready to celebrate! i don't think the media is making it any bigger than it is.
Yeah it's true that they are are always a big deal and in this case, history being made it's even a bigger one. I wish him luck he has a lot of work to do.
obviously the swearing in of a new president is always a huge deal. i was just referring to the unbridled enthusiasm of the supposed non biased media. they are all giddy like a bunch of school girls
The media is annoying.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
i was just referring to the unbridled enthusiasm of the supposed non biased media. they are all giddy like a bunch of school girls
i will agree with this....just before i turned off coverage, they went to andrea mitchell and i swear she was so excited she probably had to change her underwear

you can be giddy all you want. but no, the media does not have the right to be giddy. they have the right to report the news and thats it. they can comment on the historical nature of what took place today. but just flipping back and forth all the different stations and listening to them gush over this guy makes me want to puke. there was an fdr reference every 2 minutes. lets let the guy govern at least one day before we anoint him the greatest president ever! jesus h christ!

Clearly, you haven't seen a news program in 20 years or so.

If that's what you chose to read in that, that's on you.
Sorry but don't turn me into another 'america is better then everyone' person when I am not. You should get to know me better before you attack my words. Besides The Jeagler is the one who said America is the best country in the world! Lol! And I'm the one with the repercussions. Ahh this place never changes.
Don't take it personal. Dunk's got America envy. Every time he sees someone happy to live here, he posts about how cool Scotland is and how Americans are deluded to be happy about being here. It's like buying a corvette to compensate for other things.
not true, i just dont get the compulsion to say it all the time.. God bless america... thats very fucking christian of america isnt it... just to bless themselves.. fuck Tibet, fuck Bolivia, fuck Chad.
as for greatest country in the world... how would they know? the majority of americans still live within 50 miles of their birthplace....
it just gets very boring.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

i am not 'arguing' any of the back/forth of all the BS greatest country crap, etc.....i just honestly don't get this comment? :? i should think that's true for most people in the world, quite honestly.....although i think that is changing a lot, everywhere. that said, i live about 1.5 miles from my childhood home, probably will for the rest of my life, or most of it....of course one never knows the future. that said, i don't know what that 'proves'....? i am a very well-traveled person, as are many who still choose to live close to their birthplace. so yea, i just don't follow that train of thought, at all.
and this is a common comment i make towards your comments about america - which i know you plan on altering this year - nice to VISIT a place personally, to get to 'know' a bit more about it, firsthand. altho even a 1-2 week visit to some touristy spots certainly doesn't tell the whole story, but at least it's some experience in any case.
not true, i just dont get the compulsion to say it all the time.. God bless america... thats very fucking christian of america isnt it... just to bless themselves.. fuck Tibet, fuck Bolivia, fuck Chad.

How far do you live from your birthplace? Starting from the middle, couldn't you get to the edge of Scotland in about 50 miles in any direction? All of Ireland is about the size of my home state. And I don't think it's an exclusively American phenomenon for people to settle close to the place of their birth... it's usually where their family is.
God bless America is to us what God save the queen is to you... it's a meaningless and empty platitude. It's just like saying Merry Christmas, happy holidays, or happy birthday. Kind of like saying "damn you" has nothing to do with hell and damnation anymore.
Someone's a wee bit touchy. Patriotism has its problems, but you're reading way too much into a slogan.

as to the 'greatest country' crap, see post above. people say all sorts of BS. people can say, and think, and feel...whatever they like. doesn't make it so tho, does it? figured you already knew that tho.

i disagree i'm afraid... it's the same as having every porch door in america hanging a stars n stripes... are the owners concerned they wake up the next morning and think "fuck me.. where am i?... oh an american flag.. must be america" not touchy... i just get bored of it, i can imagine a room full of sport jocks all getting pumped up and doing that stupid crushing a can on their forehead thing whilst chanting USA USA USA.

How can you say your soccer team is the best when you haven't watched every soccer team on this planet firsthand? It's about people bonding and getting each other excited for the work ahead. On the scale of things to worry about Americans saying and doing, this one is pretty trivial.
god likes us more than you....nany nany nany boo boo.....

I'd say you're spot on with that last analogy. So what? I've no doubt your can crushing abilities are as impressive as theirs when it comes to your soccer team. Maybe it's boring, but most such things are to outsiders. I'd say your support for your soccer team is boring. You'd say my support for the Buckeyes is boring. We both say patriotic sentiment is boring. So what? I don't interject into your soccer threads to tell you how lame your sentiments and support for the team are, and I've not seen you do that to the college (American) football thread. Yet you do it for these. Why? It's got to be more than boredom.

i know we're not the best football team in the world... Brazil, Spain, Italy or Argentina might be... but not Scotland.
I also know Notts Forest arent the best in the world... because they win zero and are about 16th in the league.
and yet... Philadelphia baseball team... WORLD champions? yeah right. why not just US champions?
i'm not worrying about it... i just said i was bored of it.

ahhh you edited the bit about lack of travel, lack of knowledge of other countries and their 'greatness'
supporting a team is one thing... i dont claim my team to be the greatest... if team = country... then i still dont proclaim that at every patriotic moment i possibly can... people should know their countries/teams limitations.
I also dont ask god to bless my teams... nor my country... americans do... which is ironic in that whilst others believe it to be the greatest country in the world its greatness also lies in its ability to be morally corrupt... and yet it is the only country to be blessed by god. dont you find that hypocritical. that christians in the US live in a country that has the most horrendous crimes, rapes, muggings, drugs... possibly highest drug consumption in the world.. prostitution.. high divorce rate.. child pregnancy... organised crime.. fraud.. alcoholism... etc etc.. and yet then proclaim it to be the greatest in the world? that god only bless it?

for something you say bores you so - and you've said it a few times already - you sure like to discuss a topic that bores you so, a lot.
besides, isn't this thread about the media and the inauguration...not about what flag-wavers americans are?
i would happily wave my flag today, today is a great day. damn...i should've thought of it this morning and put my flag out on my front porch.
btw - i find it interesting that by hearing the phrase 'god bless america'.....makes you actually think that by default, that means all americans want god NOT to bless elsewhere. seriously, taking things a bit far, no?
i believe in many islamic nations praise allah and allah bless us, etc, is uttered....it is not merely an american thing. beyond which...many americans aren't all about 'god bless america' in any case. personally, i'd like to see all mention of god removed from government entirely, but that's a whole other discussion.

oh i think you're worried. i think you are really worried.
and really, what do you care if people are patriotic about their country for? you can say scotland is the greatest country in the world and i wouldnt give a shit. i would know that you are incorrect but i wouldn't give a shit.
but the philadelphia baseball team is not only the world champs, but champions of the universe as well! how's that?!

dude i say "god bless it" with a wink and a nod. to me its kind of funny to say "god bless" this and that. i say it all the time if you read my posts. i may have even "god blessed" you at one point or another for some joke that may have been jeagler approved.
but the jeagler will leave you with this...despite all its flaws, yes i do believe this is the greatest country in the world. there is a reason millions of immigrants flock here instead of scotland...or norway (legally or illegally) each year.

i can't even remember the last time we put our flag.
i'd put it out when i got home, but given the hour it's too late to respectfully display after dark if unlit.
*makes note to fly flag on october 12th*
you're not coming to NY anyway, are you? you're going south or something eh? i have met many europeans, and i don't know why but i find it funny when i hear of the first state they visit being florida. :P guess since it would not be my first choice - no offense meant floridians - i just don't see it. then again, i guess it's the weather more than anything...and cheap to travel as well i assume.

USA! USA!
cheap drugs?
i dont believe it is, but i'd be interested in hearing why you think it is? what has it got no other countries have?
do you have free healthcare, dental care and eyecare? do you have free education from age 5 right up until university? do you have a macho 70mph speed limit instead of some poofy 55mph? that'll be a no then?

nope.. but my wife, her family, her uncles family have all visited the states... Virginia was first (thats where her uncle lives), then NYC... Boston, Philadelphia.. Chicago..
they've been to Florida but they travelled down to it from Virginia...
i dont think thats the norm obviously.. but i would bet more Euros visit NYC first...

and really, what do you care if people are patriotic about their country for? you can say scotland is the greatest country in the world and i wouldnt give a shit. i would know that you are incorrect but i wouldn't give a shit.
but the philadelphia baseball team is not only the world champs, but champions of the universe as well! how's that?!
and that would be fine with me... but come the 12th october take the fucking thing down!
dude i say "god bless it" with a wink and a nod. to me its kind of funny to say "god bless" this and that. i say it all the time if you read my posts. i may have even "god blessed" you at one point or another for some joke that may have been jeagler approved.
but the jeagler will leave you with this...despite all its flaws, yes i do believe this is the greatest country in the world. there is a reason millions of immigrants flock here instead of scotland...or norway (legally or illegally) each year.
USA! USA!
i would be incorrect... Norway is
i can't even remember the last time we put our flag.
i'd put it out when i got home, but given the hour it's too late to respectfully display after dark if unlit.
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
cheap drugs?
i dont believe it is, but i'd be interested in hearing why you think it is? what has it got no other countries have?
do you have free healthcare, dental care and eyecare? do you have free education from age 5 right up until university? do you have a macho 70mph speed limit instead of some poofy 55mph? that'll be a no then?
nope.. but my wife, her family, her uncles family have all visited the states... Virginia was first (thats where her uncle lives), then NYC... Boston, Philadelphia.. Chicago..
they've been to Florida but they travelled down to it from Virginia...
i dont think thats the norm obviously.. but i would bet more Euros visit NYC first...
