in augurations are a big deal, always are...probably always will be. this one, in particular, is even more historic for obvious reasons....and hell yea, after 8 years of bush...collectively as a country, i think most are ready to celebrate! i don't think the media is making it any bigger than it is.
    Stay with me...

Agreed... as they say, the more things "change", the more they stay the same. Just hope he does a good job, because if not it will affect every one of us.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I agree! This is 2 historic moments wrapped into one!

Also, we are not the greatest country in the world... We just have the greatest possibilities, and it's what we do with them that defines us!

Whatever we 'dream'.... Just goes to show we really don't have many 'dreamers'!

Just know I am not pro-america or pro-other countries... I am for the individual... And what one chooses to do for themselves.

It's not enough to dream, we need to put the action behind it too.

This was the first election I didn't vote in. I didn't care for either party but I am curious on what Obama can do. I will as always support my president.

    God Bless America.

I think the reason this is such a big deal, as far as presidential elections go, is that this is the first election in 20 years (since 1988) where there has been any sort of leadership consensus. The last 2 elections were each decided by 1 state amid a number of controversies and voting anomalies. It presented a picture of a very bitterly divided and resentful country and democrats felt cheated. Before that, Clinton won handily in the electoral college, but Ross Perot took significant portions of the vote from popular republican candidates. Regardless of whether it cost Dole/Bush I the election, it made republicans feel cheated. So for the past 4 presidential elections, one side has felt like the other's president was illegitimate and "stole" the election. Things have been incredibly partisan and contentious.

Now I don't think that's going away, but this is the first election since Bush I that seemed to have a clear, unquestioned winner. Certainly many people are still angry, but it's not the same kind of rage as that felt the last few times around. I think America has badly needed that sense of certainty and unity. We have a consensus president and that's a good thing. I think it also makes it easier for people to be excited, since they don't have to defensively rebut accusations that the guy being sworn in was actually elected fairly.

no more bush....new president many believe in.....hopefully a lot will get done, change for the better. not just for america, but for the world as too much of what has gone on the past 8 years has hurt our country and others throughout the world, the repercussions that will be felt, and dealt with, for who knows how long.

Don't take it personal. Dunk's got America envy. Every time he sees someone happy to live here, he posts about how cool Scotland is and how Americans are deluded to be happy about being here. It's like buying a corvette to compensate for other things.

in augurations are a big deal, always are...probably always will be. this one, in particular, is even more historic for obvious reasons....and hell yea, after 8 years of bush...collectively as a country, i think most are ready to celebrate! i don't think the media is making it any bigger than it is.

Yeah it's true that they are are always a big deal and in this case, history being made it's even a bigger one. I wish him luck he has a lot of work to do.

obviously the swearing in of a new president is always a huge deal. i was just referring to the unbridled enthusiasm of the supposed non biased media. they are all giddy like a bunch of school girls
