Other then Epstein trading for Schilling and Beckett and Lowell over Thanksgiving the last few offseasons and the bidding wars for Contreras and Dice K, usually nothing happens until the Winter Meetings next week.

So I'll give Amaro some time here, but I'm on record here saying I disagree with the Burrell decision. Everything else he's done so far (which has been virtually nothing) is fine. I think the rule 5 draft is also next week so hopefully the Phils can find another diamond in the rough ala Victorino.

no one has signed anyone - relax. they didn't offer Burrell arbitration because if the accepts it then they are stuck with him and a huge contract. I think they felt if they offer it he might take it and then they are stuck with a guy they don't want with a large contract. and this new gm doesn't have to make a splash, tweaks here and there. This team won a championship, one or two new pitchers and a decent left fielder and they are fine. the core stars are here for at least 2-3 more years.

You don't lock Hamels up until after the Winter meetings.. you never lock Howard up unless its at your price... can't sign CC, Lowe, or Manny and honestly I don't want Manny... Moyer, if the terms (length or salary) aren't in your favor, you wait a see what shakes out.. you don't just run out there and sign any big name just because they are breathing (ala the Yankees, Mets).... all that guarantees you is a high payroll.

Again, as you said... its his FIRST month on the job after a WORLD SERIES WIN.... cut the guy alittle slack.

Would be more than nice....I think they're realizing the only way to repeat is with pitching....High caliber pitching....I'm thrilled that at least the Phils recognize this and want to repeat just as bad as we want to.

The way you win championships has always been defense and pitching... I like to think that this was something Rueben and the organization realized over the last 4 months when the pitching staff and bullpen carried this team or at least kept them in games.

You don't have to tell me that. Look at their previous four years in this ballpark. All they wanted to do was market the long ball and think you could be competitive by hitting homers in The Bank. The playoffs alone should have shown them otherwise - even though they did hit like 29 homers in the playoffs.

i hope they are serious about this lowe offer and not just trying to improve their positioning with moyer or something. i could definitely deal with a platoon in left if we have lowe in our rotation. can you imagine:
    hamels
    lowe
    myers
    blanton

that is one heluva rotation. let carasco and kendrick and whomever else battle it out for the 5th spot.

any shot they get moyer AND lowe??

I'm liking our chances of getting Lowe...this could be the move that could send us into the next stratosphere...

    Hamels
    Lowe
    Myers
    Blanton
    Carrasco / Kendrick / Moyer?

    WOW

now all we need is a LF locked up

Like I said - if you can land Lowe AND Moyer I would settle with a platoon in left of Dobbs/Stairs/Jenkins/Baldelli(?). This way you can put Carrasco in the pen as long man and groom him into a serious starter in a year or two. This way players become collateral for wheeling and dealing. These are the reasons teams like the Angels and BoSox have been good for a while - also why the Phillies are there now. Bring in a few solid free agents, and build your team around farm players like Carrasco.

You're more than welcome to support. It's a lot cooler than going the broad range of supporting the Yankees or Red Sox.....Loooot cooler. So the deal is ya come to Philly and you go to a game at our awesome ballpark, take you around the city, and then I'll take you to North Philly at 4 in the morning and drop you off in the middle of Diamond Street..."You mind if we dance wit yo dates?"
