Dykstra and DDK & Co. sealed the deal in Manhattan federal court on Monday. Terms were not revealed, but Dykstra told the New York Post that DDK "folded like Mitch Williams in the ninth."

These are one of the many reasons I unconditionally love Lenny Dykstra.

    LOL...Dykstra rules

What do you feel about the Phils not offering arbitration to Burrell? Now they won't get any compensation picks for him.

I understand not offering it to Moyer because he's not going anywhere and an arbitrator would probably give Moyer a raise from the 3.5 he made last year to like 10 because he won 16 games. But I think they should have offered it to Burrell because the odds were very slight that Burrell would accept a one year deal with the Phils instead of a multi-year deal somewhere else. Not offering Burrell arbitration means the Phils won't get a 1st round pick and a sandwich pick between rounds 1 and 2 if he signs somewhere else.

The problem with offering Burrell arbitration is that he would probably accept it and then get $16 mil (a few more than last year) which would tie up money that the Phils can use to shore up the bullpen or land a starter. I would have thought they'd offer Moyer arbitration, since his arbitration number wouldn't be that high... it would be a one year deal.. and if he decided to walk, they'd get picks.

I'm actually surprise they didn't give it to Moyer. Burrell I can understand why they didnt. Moyer made 6 mil last year. I figure the number this year if they went to an arbitrator would end up being 7.5-8 mil which isn't that bad. And worst case scenario if he signs with someone else then you get 2 picks. Burrell on the other hand would have probably gotten his number of at least 14 and maybe more. This would put the Phils in a bad spot when it comes to other moves they would like to make this offseason. What makes these moves interesting is the fact that I think they're gonna spearhead a campaign for maybe Manny or one of the pitchers on the market like Lowe or Burnett. I really think this may be the reason. Also, I think they're gonna give Cole a huuuge deal in the next month or so. So they need money there, and it's interesting that Milwaukee offered CC and Sheets arbitration. So we'll see what kind of affect that has on the market.

Moyer only made 6 after bonuses for innings reached and the World Series win. His base salary was 3.5 mil. Moyer would have gotten more than 7.5 to 8 mil in arbitration. He was 4th in the NL in wins through almost 200 innings and was 15th in ERA. In a world where Derek Lowe is going to get 14 mil, Moyer would have gotten around 10 which would have almost tripled his base salary from last year. So I agree with not offering arb to Moyer.

Burrell on the other hand is 32 and a free agent for the first time. No way would he have taken a one year deal from the Phils. The Phils should have offered Burrell arbitration and gotten the two picks. Burrell has only ever finished in the top 15 in the NL in OPS once and that was in 2002 - so the Phils should have enjoyed the fact that he was a type A free agent and gotten full benefits out of it.

But you have to remember that the arbitration process doesn't begin until February. So while everyone is out making deals, you have to sit on your hands and wait. And hopefully there will be a deal out there left to be made.

If you offer arbitration, you can still resign them up until arbitration. The players are also free to sign with any team. This way you get something back in case they leave or in Burrell's case when he leaves.

The player also has to right to turn down arbitration which most likely Burrell would do, but just as long as you offer it you get your compensation picks.

Yeah, but the opposing side doesn't HAVE to do anything for nearly 2-3 months. If I'm a GM, I'm not waiting around that long.

So you really think Burrell would sit around till February and take a one year deal when a lot of AL teams would offer him a multi-year deal?

It's a bad decision by Amaro. Moyer is not going anywhere so I have no problem not offering arb to him, but wasting two draft picks is a mistake.

I mean the Yanks got Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy because they offered arbitration to Tom Gordon a few years ago and they had no intentions of him returning to the Yanks.

No, I'm not saying Burrell would wait around till February but he's not obligated to tell the Phillies anything. I'm looking at this from Pat's point of view, but from the Phillies'. I actually have faith in what the Phils are doing. Ruben has enough assistants that are established to know what they're doing I believe.

I just think the Phils didn't want to leave the possibility of having $8-16 mil laying around out until Feb. while they have a few players who will soon be arbitration eligible and a few who they wanna lock up in the near future (next couple of months). Unlike the Yanks, the Phils will never have an open ended payroll going into a season.

The Red Sox have no intentions of bringing back Paul Byrd yet they offered him arbitration because Byrd will sign with a team and they'll get extra draft picks now.

Amaro has to know that Burrell will sign somewhere. Wasting two picks is a mistake if you ask me.

Amaro has to know that Burrell will sign somewhere. Wasting two picks is a mistake if you ask me.

And IF he were to sign the 1 or 2 year deal? Then what? I think they want to get faster and more athletic NOW in left field. I think they're working on something.

I think for $16 mil for a year, Burrell would stay here and go through this all over again next season. Especially if the RH power hitting FA outfielders are as mediocre next year.

From Burrell's point of view, he has to be thrilled by the Phils not offering arb. Now more teams will go after him because they don't have to worry about losing draft picks.

Again, I'm not looking at this from Burrell's point. And he doesn't go anywhere until Manny signs.

They are gambling...simple as that...Reuben hasnt impressed me so far...you'd think a new GM coming in would want to make a splash and he hasnt done squat..not singed the big potential free agents (Hamels and Howard), hasnt signed a big name (CC, Lowe, Manny), hasnt resigned fan favorites (Moyer, Burrell)...so far he gets a D- for his first month on the job

I don't think he would get 16 mil. He's the 2nd worst left fielder in the majors. After the allstar break he hit .215 with a .313 OBP and .413 SLG. And only 8 guys made 16 million or more last year. No arbitrator would think that Burrell is one of the 10 best players in baseball.

I think we're expecting too much too soon. I really think they'll do fine. They'll be just as good, if not better, next year.
