  • So after PJ20 on Saturday, we're going to JG Domestic - new Garces place in the Cira Centre. Anybody been there? I'm late to the Garces party, but I really enjoy everything he does.

Nice, yeah, I like the Garces places. Haven't been to one in a while, but have work dinners at both Chifa and Amada in the next couple weeks.

Think we are hitting the Oyster House before the movie on Friday.

Beware their happy hour "specials" tend to have some fine print associated with them that may not be clear. My friend and I had a fight with them about the check, and I NEVER fight about checks. Their oyster burger was awesome.

Thanks. That blows. The Oyster Burger looks great. Not sure if we are planning on doing a full blown dinner or just grabbing some Oysters and other things to pick at along with drinks. Have heard good things about the place, but you gotta be up front with your happy hour specials. Thats terrible.

The blackboard said oysters were half price. So we ordered up a half dozen of each kind. Going in, we were specific about sitting in the bar and asking about the HH special. Then we get the exorbitant check for $50 more than we expected, and they say the special is only for sour rock oysters. I point to the blackboard, which mentions nothing whatsoever about sour rock oysters. And they insist that those are the only ones in the special. I mean, we argued for about 15 minutes. The guy finally took the $50 or whatever off the bill, basically saying we were to blame and it's just to get us out of the place. Yeah, the place does a really good job, and is a HUGE improvement on previous incarnations, but I haven't been back since.

Welp now I'm hungry. Gonna get some Amish chicken at the Wayne farmers market. :D

Damn, man. That's terrible. Don't really understand how they wouldn't make that clear up front then argue with you when it wasn't written or stated at all. Thanks for the heads up though.

PJ 20 was so fun to watch...I want to see it again. I think my fave part of the night was walking to James Joyce with Fixer after the show and being offered free drinks twice by this guy who was way drunk and never actually getting them. I can't wait to see the bonus stuff, and I also was a bit sad that they basically sped thru the last 10 years. Maybe they'll come out with PJ22 to make up for it.
  • Hunter says he's ok (from High Cheese):
Hunter Pence, who was scheduled to have a precautionary MRI today, took to Twitter to assure the fans that he is OK

"Knee is feeling great everyone," he tweeted. "Thanks for your concern. Excited to get back at it today. No complacency."

Pence, who had two hits in Game 1 yesterday against Washington despite a noticeable hitch in his gait, wanted Charlie Manuel to keep him in the lineup for the nightcap. The training staff requested otherwise.

“Our doctors and our trainers checked him out and our trainer came back and said he’d prefer him not to play in the second game,” Manuel said. “Hunter was wanting to play.”

It should be noted that, heading into yesterday, Pence had played every inning of every game since joining the Phillies in late July. He said he has dealt with the tendinitis all season, but that yesterday was the first time it had flared up. He did not rule out playing tonight and his tweet indicated that could be the case.

This is a repeat of the "Great Spring Training Panic of 2011." Please get the playoffs here already.

  • So, I got the playoff tixx yesterday. The seats are actually decent - 329 for WS Gm 6, 140's (LF) for DS & LCS. Much better than the Section 304 I got for 2009 WS. I think the 300's in RF are the only real bad seats in that stadium.

I got screwed. I got 432 in LDS, 433 in LCS, 205 in WS for game 7.

anyone know if its true that if you buy a game 6 or something on stubhub and the series ends in 4 or 5 you'd get a refund?

i would think that is the case. stubhub's pretty reliable. anyone had any experience with this?

Of course you'd get a refund. They might keep a nominal amount.

If you understood anything about beer you would know that any pumpkin ale that is currently available used pumpkin that was grown long before Irene.

Believe me, this beer has plenty of pumpkin. Maybe you're lucky and some made it to NY. Doubt it - Philly kicks NY's ass in beer. From reading Eric Asimov, it's not even close, actually.

The Saranac Pumpkin Ale is pretty good too. Heading to a pumpkin beer fest before I head up to the Yankees game next Saturday, assuming timing works out.

Yeah, the Dogfish Head which is usually awesome. Definitely not enough flavor, more of a havest ale.

Yeah, Dogfish Head. Their beers don't do much for me these days. Sam Caligione is too busy making TV shows. That's why I recommended Weyerbacher.

In homebrewing, an ale takes 4 weeks from production to bottling. One week for fermentation and 3 weeks for carbonation. That's why Hurricane Irene wouldn't have had any effect on currently available beer. Lagers take longer to make; maybe a few months. I have never made a lager.
