For the past few years I have gone to Phillies games on my birthday. Yesterday I didn't go and they played what could be the best game of the season. The homeruns, especially Utleys, were awesome and some of the defensive plays were just amazing. Plus a complete game from a rookie pitcher, against the current World Champs, doesn't get any better than that. Go Phils! :D
It was barry zito. don't get all carried away.

he should be fine as long as no one hits it to the right side of the diamond (except for 2b)

    slider looks good.

tmac: "he struck him out with some high heat!!" 89 mph fast ball.

guess if he locates well, that may work.

In his defense, I think he was going for irony there.

    carlos quentin. thoughts?

    Phillies Interested In Carlos Quentin
    By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 27, 2011 at 9:15pm CST]

The Phillies, who saw Carlos Beltran leave the NL East today, are interested in Carlos Quentin, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). The possibility of Quentin going to Philadelphia "was talked about" a week or so ago, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (on Twitter).

The Phillies have scouted Quentin and it’s worth noting that the White Sox have been scouting Atlanta's system in anticipation of a possible deal involving the 28-year-old right fielder. He has a .265/.356/.516 line with 20 homers this year and earns $5.05MM. He'll earn a raise in 2012, when he's arbitration eligible for the final time.

Brown is really killing this team right now. I'd almost say just play fucking Mayberry every day.

Sounds like we'll get to see Vogelsong tonight. Timmy's yeast infection is still bothering him.

I was thinking the same thing about RF last night. I still don't think mayberry is an everyday player, but he won't hurt you as much as brown has.

Let's see what happens at the deadline. HOpefully we will look back and laugh at this conversation on sunday night.

Jeags, I'd have no problem with quentin. Don't love him, but he's probably better than willingham and he's signed next year. I still think they get pence though

Seriously. If I have to watch another dreadful performance against Matt Cain in the playoffs I'm gonna lose it. (like I did last year)

What's the guy's FIP? He barely strikes anybody out.

Apparently Vanimal had zero swings & misses on Tuesday night. So, um, yeah, I guess we should trade him.

That's the thing. It was eerie how this lineup's approach at the plate was the same as it was in the playoffs against him. And look how that worked out. The dude is a horse and can pitch forever, so WHY would you swing early in the count and keep his pitch count low - ala last playoffs? If you want to hurt Cain you have to stretch him out and make him pitch more than 70-some pitches by the 6th inning for Christ's sakes. I wonder if they'll ever learn.

It's funny how people legitimately think it's the batting coach or manager's fault for the failure of professional, adult, paid ballplayers. Like all of sudden these dudes are going to change their approach or swing. It's up to these assholes to do so, and you would think they would have done so by now.
