Dude like i've said over and over HOWARDS OVER PAID but he produces. he's not making a ton of money and sucking balls all year big diff.

nope, he waits for the playoffs to suck balls

Yeah he really sucked balls in 08 when we won the WORLD FUCKN SERIES. I know why outsiders hate Philly sports fans so much. Most hate us cause were to passionate the others hate us cause some are just plain ungrateful.

Not if that guy was only making a little on 2 mill over that stretch. Your paying a guy on avg for 5yrs only 2 mill and he's hittn 20 and 80 thats a bargain.

Don't go there - because then we have to hear about $25M. We all agree Howard's numbers do not justify that coin, of course.

Cliffy's right - you can't be selective in using contracts for your argument.

please include the stats from the 09 WS (was kind of a big series). Also, howard struck out more than 50% of his ABs in the giants series if I'm not mistaken.

sure, there are lots of guys that are overpaid. Just not as overpaid as the phils first baseman. 25 per year is incomprehensible for a player of his ilk

I don't even blame RAJ. That contract reeks of dave montgomery's meddling (like the initial lee trade)

.900 OPS. You are cherry picking stats. You like OPS or you don't. You're just as bad as those other guys.

Phillies had the better OPS and WAR and more runs that series, but didn't get timely hits and they lost. A couple more of those hated sac flies would've been helpful.

I'm not saying he's the only reason they lost that series. The entire team was awful (this year's offense is even worse)b

to say howard was good in that series is incorrect. HE DIDNT EVEN HAVE AN RBI

Seriously - I thought they didn't mean anything. His .900 OPS should've just made runs appear magically.

Right now Werth is the most over paid player in baseball. Jayson werth should pay howard 5 million a year until his contract is up for what he got paid.

I'm not saying werth has lived up to his contract, but he can help a team even when he's not getting hits...howard is useless if he's not hitting because he's so one dimensional

Anyway, good session fellas. Finally a game tonght, so we can go back to arguing about other stuff. Hopefully the lineup can explode for 2 or 3 runs vs dickey tonight

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Phillies are considered the front-runners to land Heath Bell.
Olney also adds that the Phils have interest in the Padres' Mike Adams and Chad Qualls, as well. They would probably prefer to have Bell and move Ryan Madson back to a setup role, but if the price for Bell is too steep, they'll keep Madson in the ninth inning and target Adams or Qualls for setup work. Bell is almost certain to be dealt somewhere, with the Cardinals, Angels, Yankees and Rangers also in the mix
