He was deff hurt in 09 as well to start the season.

started the phils 4th game of the season that year on april 10th. he didn't miss any time. they limited his workload in spring training because of the huge innings jump after the 08 run (most young pitchers struggle through this at the beginning of their careers...see mat latos this year).

he started 32 games in 09. which means he didn't miss any starts

$9.4M a year? Please. He's helping out his value this year too.

Yeah, the Phils were so pissed about that fight. It was in Clearwater, right? LIke right after they drafted him I think. He must not have seen Bull Durham because he broke his left hand.

Stutes/Bastardo/Bell/Madson is a sick lock-down bullpen. You really don't need much offense with that pitching staff.
Bells making 7.5 this year i'd figure he's owed around 3.5 more this year. And he's a free agent if you get Bell i'd hope it's not for just this season. Meaning what to u do then sign him or Madson? Do you go with who ever's cheaper?

be careful. some people here get upset when you discuss contracts. as if they're not important

contracts are important to the franchise for sure but contracts have no baring on ON-FIELD performance. You are the same player at $414,000 as you are at $20 million. They don't make a player worse or better (they make GMs and Owners worse or better). Blame the people doling out the money not the guys taking it (as in blame the republican congressmen and not the corporate execs for taking the tax breaks on private jets, same thing). David Herndon isn't better on the field than Dannys Baez because he is only making $414,000 vs. $2.5 million. they both suck regardless of contract terms. Dom Brown doesn't get a pass for fucking up plays in the outfield over Raul Ibanez because he makes less money than Raul. Neither fucking up plays should be acceptable at the same level. Unfortunately a large portion of the philly fan base doesn't quite understand that and can't seem to separate the player from the contract.

yeah, it was in clearwater. That's where the phils high A ball team is based. Apparently there's a local hole in the wall bar down there that a lot of players go to (the bar is in a strip mall, which tells you all you need to know. can't remember the name of the place...it's on the tip of my tongue). The Phils banned players from going there right around the time of the hamels incident. Rumor is that a lot of the locals intentionally target phils players and try to pick fights with them...who knows why. My guess is they are hoping they will get punched by a millionaire and it's their ticket out of one of the plentiful number of trailer parks that florida has to offer.

I love rich eisen. The characters on the NFL network are just as bad as ESPN at times though. Jaime Dykes, Sapp, and Deion make my skin crawl. Tom Waddle is awesome. Mayock would be if he learned how to talk without his awful lisp...he sounds like lou holtz. Sufferin Suckatash

I like Eisen too...but not when doing the highlights. He can't properly raise his voice....if that makes sense. But his podcasts and Total Access interviews are good. As for Mayock's lisp, he's coming along. He's much improved from when he first joined the network.

Not to derail this Phillies thread but it's all-star break so who cares? My main beef with NFL Network is that they show the same lame commercials over and over and over and over. If I have to hear this noisy commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVERz5D1YEU) one more time, I might have to kill somebody.

I don't even watch the highlight shows anymore. I usually have RedZone channel on on sundays (the best channel of all time). I will admit I flip between espn and nfl network for pre-game stuff, but that's just so I can see what weather is and injuries are for that day.
