Well, that sucks. Integral to the running game. I figure he might want another shot at managing.

Might be an opportune time to bring Bo back. Put Perlozzo at 1st and put ol' Lar back at 3rd.

that would be awesome. they should bring him back to manage the team

Eh. Never too big of a fan when he was the manager, but he was exactly what they needed at the time. I read that he didn't want to manage again, but boy, him being 3rd base coach again would be pretty awesome.

Saw that there's interest in Juan Samuel and Mariano Duncan too. I'm cool with those as well.

I was kinda kidding about bowa as the manager. He's probably too much of a spaz for that job. I would just love to see manuel replaced.

Not sure if you guys saw my post in the other thread. It's worth mentioning again.

Burrell in the WS...0-13 with 12 k's. even ryan howard thinks that sucks

That's what my thing was - too much of a spaz, micromanager.

I do miss him though. He was entertaining...especially when he'd argue a call. That's another reason I'm against instant replay in baseball...I love seeing the manager/umpire arguments

For sure. Probably won't happen, but it'd be cool if it did.

So it looks like they're gonna go to 10 teams in the playoffs. Probably not next season, but I'm gonna guess 2012.

Hate expanding the playoffs. Love how elite it is. Make the first round 7 games and we are all good.

Eh. I like the idea for two reasons - making it more difficult for a wild card team to win, and restoring some relevance to winning your division. It would still be the hardest sport to make the playoffs.

I agree 110%. How is a 5 team playoff gonna work?

I think it's just trying to hard jp. I agree backing into the wild card can be a negative for baseball but it's not like the wc is winning it on a yearly basis.

No, you're right there. But the fact that being the wild card is nothing more than not having home field advantage just doesn't seem enough for me.

Move the LDS to a 7 game series, play more day games(one in the WS would be nice, like on a Saturday or something), and have two wild card teams play in a 3 game series to open the playoffs. I'm down with that.

Getting a bye in baseball can be a huge negative. Those guys are programmed to play every day. They sit for a week leading up to the playoffs and they get caked with rust.

I'm with cliffy, leave it as is. If anything I'd like to see them go back to 4 divisions and have the top 4 teams from each league make it, with each division winner getting home field. And absolutely make round 1 best of 7.

It's not really a bye though. Playoffs would start as usual for the other teams. Just would be that the two wild cards would have to play Monday-Wednesday.

I just don't think it would be a terrible thing.

And like I said, some kind of relevance/advantages have to be restored for winning the best record in your league. Perfect example is the AL East year in and year out.

I was just going to say, that 3 game series would basically have to be game 163 and start the day after the season ends.

I do want the first round to be 7 games, 5 is too much of a crapshoot. That's enough for me though.

I am sure i could get used to it and I love baseball so more baseball is always a good thing to me, I just like it as is.

And let the hot stove begin......finally....

Cliff, what ya think the Yanks will have to say about dude in Texas talking shit on the organ-eye-zation(actually the fans)?

Fixer, what ya think about Mag Ordonez in right field? Was listening to Randy Miller this morning, and it kinda makes sense. Even though I don't want this team getting any older, but it'd be a nice stop-gap to fill in until Brown becomes a regular, will cost about the same as Werth did on his current/expired contract, decent 5 hole hitter behind Howard. But, again, don't like the age or injuries, maybe they load the contract with incentives on a one year deal. And just saw he's a type A, so I don't know about that..

    If Mags is a type A I wouldn't touch him with a 20' pole.

I don't think they're signing any big name FA's this offseason. Maybe a mid-level OFer and bullpen help. I don't see their payroll getting much larger than it was last year.

Really sucks...without werth it's gonna be tough for the phils to put together a better team than they had this year. They really blew a golden opportunity to win another WS

I think greenberg pulled a hammy backtracking from those comments this afternoon. If you are going to say some shit like that be a man and stick by it. Especially if you are from Texas. don't call levine and Hal and apologize.

Edit: oh, and I think the yanks response will be a nice free agent press conference introduction this winter

Agree with your first part, but not as much with the second half. I really think the production they get out of who ever will be in the outfield will be enough to compensate for the loss. I still think they are the favorite in the NL.

Hahahahhaha....dude is insane! Now the stories that I've heard of The Bat when he was the 8-man for The U rugby team make a ton of sense. I mean we all know about the Irish Pub tales, but I've heard shit of this guy dirty sanchez'ing broads while donning a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and a holster belt. In. Sane.

Fixer - there is a horse in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf on saturday called 'Utley' - you have to bet that horse since it's named after your man crush. Opening at 6-1 odds too so not a bad choice. I'll have to study that race to see if i like that horse or not - but you have to bet that one.

i'm sure this has been discussed but i haven't paid that close attention over the last couple weeks.... apparently heyman believes the phils have a good shot at getting jw  :

What about Werth? The Phillies are said by a source to have initially suggested this summer a repeat of the deal Jason Bay got from the Mets last offseason, which would mean $66 million over four years. But that was summarily rejected by Werth, and he is shooting to redo the $120 million, seven-year contract Matt Holliday got from the Cardinals.

Werth has more power than Crawford and has shown a willingness to play center field, which should help him as a free agent, but with Werth being 32 it seems a stretch to think even such a multi-dimensional player will reach the $100 million mark. The Phillies, who have done an excellent job from a business standpoint, apparently haven't come close to giving up. They know they need a right-handed bat, and a person familiar with their thinking said he expects them to try hard for Werth, giving them a decent shot to retain him. The Tigers, who have $50 million coming off the books and seek a middle-of-the-order bat, also could be a possibility. The best guess here is that he goes to Boston or stays in Philly. The haul? Maybe $85 million for five years.

Buster Onley said he thought the Tigers would have a great shot because of all the money coming off the books AND that Boras has made a lot of deals with them before. Would agree can't be too many teams out there for him at 15-17 Million per year.

    Nice

I LOVE betting on football, but I'm not into casino gambling or betting on horses. I'm up a lot so I will put some small bets in. Here are some horse names I found to bet on in the breeders cup races...

    Utley
    Crown of Thorns
Havre de Grace (town in maryland...my dad's brother lives there)
Stay Thirsty (those commercials are great)

I'm sure none will win, but I'll put small bets on those horses to win their respective races.

    Those races shown on TV?

Also, don't trust what heyman says. cliffy has pointed out that heyman is boras' puppet. He leaks info to Heyman in order to drive up demand for his clients.

    Love the hot stove rumors

Yes ABC and ESPN. Not sure which is on when. That Utley race is the 1st one saturday i think so probably like 1:20. Crown of Thorns ran in the Breeders Cup last year and if i remember correctly i think i won some money on it. I pretty much only play the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup Races. It's fun but not a way to make real money unless you can hit a large exacta or trifecta.
